America - Don't Cross The River Lyrics
There's a little girl out lyin' on her own
She's got a broken heart
She's not the kind to take you down for long
She knows and plays it smart
She's heard no whistle blowin' from the dark
She feels like leavin' and she don't know why
Without no bridges she's trapped, so I sigh
Don't cross the river if you can't swim the tide
Don't try denyin' livin' on the other side
All your life
You were on your own
If you want you can ride my train
You'll lose yourself and then sometime
Maybe even save yourself some grievin'
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Don't cross the river if you can't swim the tide
Don't try denyin' livin' on the other side
Don't cross the river if you can't swim the tide
Don't try denyin' livin' on the other side
Don't cross the river if you can't swim the tide
Don't cross the river if you can't swim the tide
Don't cross the river if you can't swim the tide ...

Great band..
True music masters through and through , America has been a musical standard for years on end, they have held true to their roots and then some, true pros !
I love the harmonies of the 60's and 70's. Puts me in mind of Crosby Stills Nash and Young

I saw America at the Ozark Music Festival in 74. The OMF is called the Woodstock of mid-west or the greatest festival no one has ever heard of. America closed the show. It was 107 degrees plus. So hot America was having trouble keeping their guitars in tune. I thought they sounded great
es como decir el trió los panchos pero mas contemporáneo por la armonía de sus guitarras y voces
RIP Dan Peek, a great singer. Incredible harmonies. A great song and a great group.
neil young could sing this song
Loved you then and still love you now.

One of my favorite songs. Great harmonies and a lot of feeling. Dan Peek has a great voice. We will miss him.
The sweet sound of banjo in the background is the only thing that is missing
Great tune ❤️❤️ ❤️
Saw them last night in Redmond Oregon at the Deschutes County Fair - they put on a hell of a show.

I’m loving this music from earlier in our civilization. Must have been before global warming because people had hair. 😂💕👍🏻

Saw them in concert twice years ago. Great show.
Muito foda
Acoustic guitar rock is SO cool. So organic. This was a great band to listen to with headphones!
best part about listen with headphones just like the Beatles so much stuff produced by the great Sir George Martin makes it such a headphones only experience
musica is life, for me. thanks .
fraffrog?? Your cover! In your Channel!! Fraffrog is an italian youtuber
fraffrog?? Your cover! In your Channel!! Fraffrog is an italian youtuber
This band is definitely under rated
My wife and I enjoyed a cool summer night's concert at the Indiana State Fair a few years ago with America and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band! For those few hours, we were teenagers again!
Gerry plays a Martin D-45 which i have awww
DAY SOUND VERY NEIL YOUNG ISH!.
They were better than Neil Young.
This songs so perfect il excuse the high revurb ;)
Man, we beat this album to death in 76, Amberg Germany. Up on the border.
great deep song...
Songs sound good, but I'm more happy that he receive Christ as savior and thought being in fellowship with God was more important then money and fame. Amen.
👍 Good point
wolfcats2 You’re basically saying his talent doesn’t really matter as long as he believes in the same things as you believe, I disagree. His talent matters more to me than whatever religion he chooses to believe. The fact that America’s music is great is the only thing that matters to me.
Lesbian No Legged Soccer Mom Sellout what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and to lose his soul.Put God 1st in your life and everything else will follow.Their is no Easter without Good Friday.
Why do we have to listen to your constant yammering about your religious beliefs? IT SUCKS. We don't push Hinduism on you. Your trip is icky.
Mitici ....anni ruggenti
One of my favorite and maybe forgotten America songs. I'm glad I have this song somewhere!?
+Randeep Walia Both! Ok?
Wonderful wonderful music... beautiful melodies, harmonies, guitar work, America is truly one of the best ever.
Awesome , I got to see America 3 times in the later years and they were awesome , Thanks for this posting
Magic! These themes and styles of music are now gone from the radio and talent mocking buffoons have have taken their place!
This band is so beautiful. Wonderful harmonies. They sound as great now as ever. Bless them forever. I still love them. Forever. :) x x x
I loved this band. They had much more talent than they were ever given credit for.
suki44883 Just saw them last year - of course only 2 left but were just as fantastic as when I saw all 3 in 1973. Quite simply amazing!
Darn Right 👍 their harmony unbelievably awesome 😁👍
whooopee
I need to look into this Dan Peek. I always thought of America as two guys, Dewey and Gerry.
@Daisy Jane Dewey and Gerry each sang about 7 each of their hits, but Dan sang this song and two bigger hits: Lonely People and Today's the Day. I think he also wrote Woman Tonight but he shares lead with the other two on that one - the only America hit I think where they did that. I don't know how much he sang lead on non-hits, but he was always part of their harmony (until he left).
His voice is similar to Dewey's (at least not like Gerry's) but is less "Neil Youngish" if you know what I mean. If you listen to his lead vocals you can begin to notice how he is different from Dewey.
There music was kinda simple, yet so powerful.
when simplicity is ok
dan peek mi favorito por siempre gran talento gran presencia en el ecenenario enorme carisma lo admiro muchoooo
Saw them at Balmain Leagues Club in 1984 in front of just 300 people.....bit of a step down from Ozark, but still a great band
Saw them at the Ozark Music festival in 74 it was so hot 107 degrees the crowd of two to three hundred thousand had fizzled out so i got on front row. It was great only got to see them one more time I wish they would come to Nashville area more. Everyone send the R&R Hall of Fame a message to induct these guys.
Music on high. Sanks from the USSR (Gorby....Gagarin....) короче Минск
LOVE THIS SONG!!!
Definitely...hearing this again (and their other songs as well) takes me right back to the early 70's. My older brother liked America and had many of their albums.
America the beautiful singers!
Tolle Musik, die muss man einfach mögen ✌
Ein ebenso fantastischer Sound!
Love America is a gift for your ears
Love Rebecca you are a gift for my eyes
So great to see this band remembered and loved. How can you help it, the songs make you feel good...........
Rebecca Mireles. Great band. Real feeling geat harmony.
Class act on and off the stage. They signed my 3 CD set and chatted for at least 5 minutes after their show at a concert in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan a few years ago. Same thing at Leelanau Sands Casino north of Suttons Bay Michigan. Seen them 5 times and will see them more. Thanks for 40+ years of class act, quality music!!!
Don't cross the river cause we don't need more illegals.
You're clever
That's awesome! "Don't cross the river or Trump will deny".
One of my favorite 70's tunes. There is nothing like listening to good acoustic music. Just love this, thanks.
So much fun watching these guys play their songs!
My favorite America tune.
Great song! <3
vamos peru
Ah the 70's best music ever made. How bout thumbs up in 2014.
How many times in 1973 &4 did I play this album to go to sleep & dream about going to California. 15/16 years old.
jean lafeet well if you're out there I'm just wondering if you made it to California I was 16 years old in 1979 I remember making it to California from Boston I was there in 1980 when John Lennon died didn't stay there long move back out there in 1990 and stayed there a couple years Southern California is a beautiful place
jean lafeet and thumbs up June 2018
And 2019 still great👈😁
i was a wee one back then and just adored this generation ' the big kids', something seemed magic in them, but perhaps I am just romanticising ?
this is the original sound of America
Las guitarras suenan espectaculares gran tema. Viva america
One of my favorite America tunes.
Update: Thumbs up if you still listen to this song in 2013!
Ashton Richardson I’m listening in 2019
Sounds like NEIL YOUNG on vocals....but he carries a tune better than Neil.
Las quitarras suenan de maravilla. America FANTASTICOS!!!!!
I still say they ought to be in Rock and roll hall of fame. Where is Elton John when you need him.
Its covered by a lot of artists... Garth Brooks did the most recent I can remember on his "Chris Gaines" Album.
I have been going nuts trying to figure out who did this song. Did anyone else do it?
