David Pack is a star of rock, and should be as well known as Steve Perry or Michael McDonald (well maybe) - great song from their last album that was ignored and deserved to be a hit... that's BRUCE HORNSBY on piano - he ended up in Sheena Easton's touring band, and then when he formed THE RANGE, Ambrosia's Joe Puerta was a member!

I don 't know why David Pack reminds me so much of Glen Tilbrook (Squeeze). They're so completely different yet somehow so much alike.

When this song came out, it helped me from what I was going thru at the time. Love Ambrosia I have all their albums. Great California Band. .

This was a killer album, and totally ignored. I got it the week it was released. Loved it. But it was in the sale/clearance bins within just a few weeks. I never understood that; some of the songs on this album (like this one) were among their best.

Awesome songs and some amazing material produced on this record...probably the most underated Ambrosia record...what a pity! A masterpiece...this song is a killer! As Doug said "Joe's "Still Not Satisfied" and David's "Endings" are clear standouts along with this track"...wish we could see a reunion one day!

In 1982 Hornsby joined the band Ambrosia for their last album Road Island and can be seen in the band's video for the album's single "How Can You Love Me."

Couple things - this album was unjustly ignored by their own label, industry and press - it's a great blend of prog, R&B and their many influences. Joe's "Still Not Satisfied" and David's "Endings" are clear standouts along with this track. This video includes Bruce Hornsby as mentioned here elsewhere by I gotta call out master-of-the-hammond Chris North -the most clean-cut shots of him I've ever seen! The guys look like they are really together on this video - too bad it was their last save for live shows since then... though a new one is on it's way.

+Doug Harr Couldn't agree with you more. David Pack is one HELLUVA guitar player. He was on a Chet Atkins tribute that can found on You Tube. I was stunned when I saw David Pack with a lot of other great guitarists. If Chet Atkins had chosen him to be on the tribute, he wouldn't have been there. Burleigh Drummond is one of the most unheralded drummers of all time IMHO. Joe Pueta is a great bass player. I don't know/understand the falling out David Pack had with the rest of Ambrosia and why he left; but AFAIAC, Ambrosia lost one of their leading lights that can't be replaced. Both David & Ambrosia need to "bury the hatchet" and bring David back to fold. Ambrosia will NEVER be the same without his vocals. Once again, just MHO.

Watch David Pack's left hand perform magic on the neck of his guitar!  It's a joy every time to observe, Such skill!  Burleigh looks very into this tune, too!  But, where did bass player, Joe Puerta, get his clothes for this video?  I'm thinking Goodwill.

Has Mr. Pack ever thought to do something like a made-for-TV movie about the band from its' formation through now?  It would certainly draw interest with the current music buyers;  as well as, bring many to concerts.  They would then have the rational for additional concert venues.

This song reflected the fact that Ambrosia on their album Rhode Island wanted a more explosive sound at the time and they wanted to get away from their soft rock reputation that they had with songs like "How Much I Feel","Biggest Part Of Me" and "You're The Only Woman (You & I)".  That doesn't mean I don't like their softer sound in their earlier days, as a matter of fact I like both directions. It will be great if Ambrosia made a comeback no matter what direction they take their music.

I'm an Ambrosia fan, but never heard this song before.  Great tune, and of course, Pack always drives it home!

I tried to ask a question on a site supposedly run by "Ambrosia".  The "band" ended the previous e-mail with "he's gone!"-speaking of David Pack when someone wanted to know why he wasn't listed anywhere.  Funny, all their top sellers and beautiful lyrics and melodies happened when he was part of everything-once he was "gone" so went most of the talent!  [email protected]

Toto influence? Ambrosia had already released their 3rd LP before Toto released their first LP. I've never heard anyone in Ambrosia list Toto as one of their influences. The Beatles, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Motown... but NEVER Toto.

First Ambrosia-albums are very different from this. This sounds like the band is trying to be on the radio by sounding like other rockbands that get radio-airplay. Such as Toto at the time.

Yet ANOTHER great Ambrosia that received little airplay. I found this by accident a while back. I really like this. 

he also has at least one daughter, not sure which wife.  most likely gail. worked as a non-paid worker while my roommate was, one of the paid behind the scene workers for the production company-this is before david found religion.  if he really found it, and is happy with the way his life is-more and more power to him.  he would pass me almost daily for several shows over several years.  granted, i wasn't much to look at;  however, they went into studio to record one day-with liquid courage, passed me-looked (i thought-they finely see me. you can imagine how excited i was!),  as they passed,  he and another stated, "...somebody must have lost a bet..."(much laughter) for the remainder of the next 18 months i made myself a door opener, equipment finder, and the person there to make everyone else feel good.  i never changed the way i felt about their music, and whenever significant others were there (spouses or...), we showed them respect.  many years later now and he has grown up-good for him.  this is only the second time i shared this.  the last engagement in ann arbor, mi.  he was but several steps away, and you could tell that he was trying to remember where he seen me before maybe, some day, he will remember enough to try to give at least a small apology for a young mans' behavior, even if it only something that he remembers-and i hope that he passes to his son how to be gracious and polite. A lot of people think the group's previous album, 1980's "One Eighty," referred to the group's 180-degree turnaround in musical direction, but it actually alluded to the recording date for the album: January 1980.

These guys never lost "it"- they were and are one of the best West Coast bands ever, this music pumps me up and is so damn groovy-these guys could rock out with the best of them and their slower songs/ballads are the best.David Pack is a true legend as is Ambrosia-phenomenal band!

I case no one noticed the person playing the piano is Bruce Hornsby who was in the band for a while. How do I know? I was their manager/ house sound engineer and I still work with them today. they are curently working on a new CD. .
