With material like this, I really don't get why people shit on The Last Hero so much. Some absolutely phenomenal music is on there, some of the best they've ever made.

Losing Patience is an underrated gem

my favorite song of the album so far. First time I listened to this song it was in the bottom of my list but the it grew on me. The song doesn't amuse you immediately but it slowly builds you up and takes you to a journey towards an epic ending.

This album bombed so badly. Sucks in comparison to the past albums. FACT

Straight up masterpiece

the thing that rages me the most is that they almost shit on this kind of songs live. When i see the setlists they are mostly the same, i really think they should play their epic songs WAY more often, they have a fantastic catalog of masterpieces who rarely come to life imo, and thinking that they are "promoting the last hero" when they rarely play more than 3 songs from this álbum (not to mention the huge dump they take on Fortress nowadays, besides the singles). I saw them live and they rocked ass, but i've missed this kind of songs a lot.

I know, but the bits i saw it live, they nailed it, and they should support the album they are touring for, sadly they lack a lot of the last hero on this tour, and i think they should do their epics a little bit more often, that would raise the chils by astonomic units, along with blackbird. i love blackbird, but that album was too much spoiled on this tour, and it lacked a lot of goldies imho.

I think it's a mixture of what others have said and age. They can still rock out, but they're not in their twenties anymore. I think Avenged Sevenfold recently going over songs they've done and how they worked on tracks shows how extensive putting a song together can be. What we hear on an album is days of input and lots of rest in between. You can hit all the sweet spots during that period. Live shows are, on the other hand, are likely very hard on the ability of singers. Even Mark remarked that he can't play the way he used to and think he can give a good performance. He'd have to save some of it for the audience.


Consider Linkin Park. So many were happy to hear the artist sound exactly like the album, but people started to notice Chester would wax on his ability to scream during live shows. Sometimes he had the power and sometimes he didn't. For those who wanted to hear what they heard on the album, some may be disappointed while others understood and just enjoyed seeing them live. I'm sure it bothered Chester to not come through at times. It would bother me.


It's not a happy compromise, but I think settling for what they give you at a live show is better than having them kill themselves every night like they might have when they were young and thought there'd be no end to what they'd be able to do.
