alt-J - 353 Lyrics

Silent night, unholy night,
A bridge of cracks click as I twist my spine
I turn to find a visitor
Rapture me, my Lolita

And I know she knows that I killed my love

The minister believed her though
She's as white as a ghost
The aching feels like she's gorgeous from coast to coast
The scalpel bleach, make that a smile
Stay with me, my darling, for my last little while

And she cranes to me, "I'll be there as you sing yet I'll be gone before the second kiss me."

"Kiss me, down by the boat or the bearded barley
Marry me behind the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear the dress.
Oh kiss me."

Oh
Oh three
Oh fifty-three

  7. Over Myself

    I found the lyrics, I think…

    Silent knife, unholy knife
A bridge of cracks click as I twist my spine
I turn to find a visitor
    Rapture me, my Lolita

And I know she knows that I killed my love

    Administer the lethal dose
(She's as white as a ghost)
The aching feels like she's gorgeous from coast to coast
The scalpel bleach, make that a smile
Stay with me, my darling, for my last little while

And she cranes to me, "I'll be there as you sing
Yet I'll be gone before the second 'kiss me'."

"Kiss me, down by the boat or the bearded barley
Marry me behind the green, green grass
Swing, swing, with a spinning step
You wear those shoes and I'll wear that dress
    Oh, kiss me."

    Oh

  12. Kit - Kat

I think I figured it out- the meaning of this song. When you press Alt-j on a computer, you type the delta triangle, their band symbol (∆). Yet the delta triangle is also the symbol for 'change'. This song (In my opinion) is about a man who had killed his wife for a younger woman, who he loved, yet has to take risks and change his life to be with. The meaning of 353 could connect to the angel #353, which signifies that change, which their band represents, is inevitable, and to not be scared of, or fear the outcome of what might happen.

DELTA by C2C is about accepting change, check it out

  15. Eleanor Luciani

Is this song also related to the film Leon? like Matilda and Leon are? I've literally watched the film and fallen down a rabbit hole of realisation

    Belle R.

    Nah, I don't think so.

  16. shady baby

    1:06 a scarlet blue breach :o

  17. DJH

could this have anything to do with Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov?

    Over Myself

    DJH possibly!

    Dansey

I thought Lolita was used here to refer to a young woman (one younger than the one he killed), not necessarily to Dolores specifically

  18. OJK

    bungee 343?

  19. dabig_ sho

The last verse is partially derived from the song 'kiss me' by sixpence none the richer... hope this helps!

Couldn't figure out where I recognized so many of the lyrics from- they've added "Kiss Me" by Six Pence None the Richer to their own tune. Does anyone know if the others are from different songs as well?

  27. Lebohang Morake

What is this song about someone interpret please. I think it's about a lover who was gone and now she is back, but the singer doesn't love them anymore?

  28. Gage Olschewske

Do you have a Twitter or something where I can get ahold of you?

  29. CamBen

Here's the actual lyrics, as close as I can possibly get it:

    Shhhhhank

    Silent knife, unholy knife
A bridge of cracks click as I twist my spine
I turn to find a visitor
    Rapture me my Lolita
And I know she knows that I killed my love

    Administer the lethal dose
She's as white as a ghost
The aching it feels like she's gorgeous from coast to coast
The scowl blue breach, ain't that the smile
Stay with me, my darling, for my last little while
    And she cranes to me,
'I'll be there as you sing yet I'll be gone before the second kiss me'

"Kiss me down by the bone of the bearded barley
Nightly, behind the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear the dress.
    Oh kiss me"

    Ohhhh oh oh oh
    Ohhhh oh oh oh
Ohhh Ohhh Ohh Ohhh Ohhhhhh ahhh
Ohhh Ohhh Ohh Ohhh Ohhhhhh ahhh Three
Ohhh Ohhh Ohh Ohhh Oh Ohhhhhh ahhhhhh Fifty-Three

    L Y R I X

@Camßεn Amazing! Now I don't have to make up fantasy words anymore when I want to sing along haha

    Katie L99

Is it not "silent night, unholy night" would make sense as the beginning of holy night is almost that!

    CamBen

@Katie 123L there isn't a T sound, it's very clearly an F sound. likely it's still a reference to the song, but we know it's "silent knife unholy knife" because of the theme of the song, as well as the reference to it in Bloodflood 2

    Katie L99

+Camßεn maybe I have hearing problems then

    Isabella Rose

CamBen I heard kiss me down by the boat of the bearded barley

  30. Corey Ballard

"The minster, the leap of oath" should be "Administer the lethal dose"

    L Y R I X

Well that at least makes more sense

  31. L Y R I X

Oh god, looking back, this video's a mess. Sorry everyone :D

  33. Patrick Sangeorzan

I've always thought it sounded more like; "She's gorgeous, of course of course"

  34. Elize Gr.

  35. lilcocacola

I was going to shout in a concert for them to play this i wonder if they would have, if i asked them?

    L Y R I X

+lilcocacola Well they started playing Leon again, but I highly doubt they will start any other old songs in the near future. But it's always worth a try

  36. GOOFYGOOBERZ Z

Silent knife, unholy knife, a bridge of cracks click as I twist my spine

    ประพันธ์ อินธิจักร

    Zayra B 353

    Ángel Gamaliel Figon Minor

I think it's "Marry me" instead of "Nightly"

  37. Laura Thyregod

Hey... maybe you can try too make GROUPLOVE lyric videos? They make good music:-D

    L Y R I X

    @L Y R I X I will xx

    Laura Thyregod

Hey, I just checked your blog out and I have a rock band you might like. Its called ALOKE and its not a big band but you can hear it on Spotify and some of there songs on youtube;-D

    L Y R I X

@laura nielsen Oh great! Thank you, I'll check them out!x

  38. Larissa Russell

The one section is a cover of the song "Kiss me" by Sixpence None the Richer
"Kiss me out of the bearded barley
Nightly, beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear that dress"

And I think it says "The minister- The lethal dose"

    But thats just my interpretation

    L Y R I X

@Larissa Russell I read the thing with the Sixpence None The Richer cover too, but I just can't hear the words! I really tried, but I'm still hearing different words. So maybe they changed the lyrics a bit like they do quite often?
And 'lethal dose' could be possible as well! Thanks! :) x

    Corey Ballard

    "The minster" should be "Administer"

  39. L Y R I X

Yes, there are still some gaps, but I just couldn't figure out the right lyrics. I'm also unsure about every other word. Help is massively appreciated!

    Serah Conar

@Yuli Corn But I believe ''Love me behind the green green grass'' makes more sense, ''marry me behind the green green grass'' doesn't make much sense. In the different version I thing it sounds like ''nightly''

    Jarrad Levy

    +L Y R I X I think 1:30 is "Lie with me"

    Serah Conar

    @JazzaTV Good point

    Jarrad Levy

    Cheers :)

    Lizi Chikhladze

+L Y R I X i think i heard "bury me" instead of marry me or love me
