One doesn't even have to be a Muslim to know that conservative Israelis are willing to sacrifice peace for land when the opposite approach is what is needed. I am against imperialism. The era of annexation and colonization has been surpassed by modern borders and international political reality. That is, to everyone except conservative Israeli PMs. Israel has a right to exist but not at the expense of what will be needed for a two-state solution, meaning no new settlements. Arafat may have torpedoed the process after the Dayton accords but Sharon, Ohlmert and Netanyahu have more than made up for his mistake since.

And anyway aside from that, musically, there are not many bands that come up with excellent melodies and song structures like alphaville and its a shame they did not receive more credit for that in their prime or even now.

Ok, if you're simply against the existence of Israel, just come out and say it so it clear who we're dealing with. Regarding the meaning of the song, I think he's just talking about the feelings that come about in people when they visit or think about Jerusalem, because of its significance in religion. However, I think its more of a spiritual song than a religious song because the feeling of spirituality exists in every1 regardless of creed.

A few million Palestinians disagree, and I have a neutral opinion at any rate. I merely had always been curious at underlying purpose in the song. Being someone who's paid full price for five Alphaville albums I think I'm more entitled to wonder than most.

@OverlordR, you are entitled to your opinion but when you present facts that are inaccurate that is no longer an opinion, the support for Israel's existence stems from historical evidence not just writings in a book.

of all places, why did they come to salt lake city when they toured US???? i dont understand what market there is for them there. hopefully they can come to NY if they tour in states again. Great song, one of many by them.

I actually bought the one single by In_Vox because it had Erasure's Andy Bell on vocals...from that very establishment. Sent me a sampler disc I've only skimmed, and both those groups are on it.

A Different Drum is based out of Salt Lake, which is the big American synthpop label - and thus hosted especially at this time a big synthpop scene. Do a search for the label and you may be pleasantly impressed by bands like Iris, The Nine, Echoing Green and others.

Does anyone know what was the deal with this concert? I mean, Salt Lake City...doesn't seem the logical choice. Was it some sort of Evangelical deal, like the ones who support Israel for selfish, cynical reasons? Just wondering. The song had always made me wonder about alternate meanings in its lyrics.

Some of the bands/singers he wrote for are... U2, Coldplay, GNR, Def Leopard, Phil Collins...

He was probably the most prolific writer ever!!!

I honestly think about friends living in Jerusalem and dealing with everything they go through. Not sure if Marian was actually writing about the turmoil there, but "Lets take Love to Jerusalem! is very appropriate. I love this song, and would love to hear Alphaville Live!
