I'm an atheist and I enjoy this song a lot. It frustrates me that people will shun others and their music just for having a different belief system to them. I believe in music, I may not believe in Jesus but music is all about expression and I respect that Aaron Gillespie and many other great musicians use music to express their religious background. I think the song is a conversation between God and the writer questioning Him. Based on the second half of the title, "left out," if I had to guess, I would say it's in reference to Jesus leaving the company of pharisees and non-believers....but that is definitely just a guess.

I know this song is about talking to God and how he will never forsake you. But I can look at this song like you want to tell that person that is broken and doesn't know God, that you yourself make mistakes even though i'm a Christian. But God is a merciful God and it doesn't matter how much we have done, you can be forgiven. It says he puts your sins as far way as the east is from the West.
