Allman Brothers Band, The - Stormy Monday Lyrics

They call it Stormy Monday
But Tuesday's just as bad.
They call it Stormy Monday
But Tuesday's just as bad.
Lord, and Wednesday's worse
And Thursday's all so sad.

The eagle flies on Friday,
Saturday I go out to play.
The eagle flies on Friday,
Saturday I go out to play.
Sunday I go to church,
Gonna kneel down and pray.

Lord have mercy,
Lord have mercy on me.
Lord have mercy,
Lord have mercy on me.
Though I'm tryin' and tryin' to find my baby,
Won't someone please send her home to me.

This is not from The Allman Brothers At Fillmore East. This is the reworked version. All of you pontificators with your worldly observations about it don't even know that??? What kind of musicians or music listeners are you people not to know that !!

  13. Andrew Farris

Eruc. Clapton found pleasute being accepted in these recorins.back in the day this was the breaking edge of studio work.they all wr wee great.Greg Almond was a master playing the B-3 of wich was extraordinary.many play but few are good.

  14. ted149

On the vinyl album version I have, the harmonica solo has been edited out. So that’s the first time I’ve heard the full version. Cool!

I don't care I'm just glad I'm old enough to have experienced the greats I ride around in my old Dodge truck blaring it. That's why the young ones call me old school we park by the highschool game on Friday night they turn there music off and shout old school turn it up. I have gave them CD's of the old school rock . I HEAR THIS SONG IN THE EARLY 70S STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITES

  31. Eric Talkington

Dude, where the fuck did that harmonica solo come from????? I've listened to this version from Fillmore East, and this is absolutely that version, at least a million times, know every note by heart. I have the original CD of the Fillmore East show, the Deluxe Edition, I have it on vinyl AND on cassette tape and know that solo has never been on any of those versions. Please, someone tell me what I'm missing?? I feel like I just found a glitch in the matrix! It's freaking me out. When I heard that shit start I had a chill run down my spine. Did someone splice it in, was the the real version and it was never released or what??? Please help!!! Oh, and there are a couple words at the end I've never heard before either. I know from the intro and all the notes except the harmonica part are definitely Fillmore East and I don't think they could ever hit the same song in the same way exactly with all the same notes + harmonica solo in exactly the same way twice. There's no way. Even the Grateful Dead, never played the same song exactly the same ever no matter how many times they played it.

  32. Abraham Ornelas

Till it hits like a ton or more you have to wait got what's ahead

  33. Aaron Matthews

    One of my all-time favorites.

  43. Steve Eckstein

OH SO MANY YEARS, I'VE BEEN "CHASING" DUANE & DICKY" ON MY HORN. RARELY, I'M COASTING SIDE BY SIDE. EUPHORIA. NIRVANA. PRIDE.SATISFACTION THAT , EVEN FOR A MOMENT, " I REALLY HAD IT". THEN LIKE "RALPH KRAMDEN'S HONEY MOONERS, I REALLY LOST IT", SO, HERE I GO AGAIN>

  44. Brad Coons

Why is Duane smiling so big with his hands like that?

    Joeh6263 H

Because he just scored a bag of dope from his dealer and ran back and sat down. That's why they're all laughing.

  45. raymond wockner

  49. BenFrank OG

    Probably my favorite live album.

  50. Sergio Schivazappa

who´s playing the 1st and 2nd guitar solos?

    TheMerryPup

I think that the first one is Duane and the second one is Dickey Betts.

    Sergio Schivazappa

@TheMerryPup are u sure? in this case Mr. Betts is my favourite guitar player of all times!

    TheMerryPup

@Sergio Schivazappa My mistake, Sergio. Dickey Betts played the first solo and then after Gregg solos on the organ Duane does the second guitar solo. Dickey Betts also wrote the song.

    Sergio Schivazappa

@TheMerryPup the Song was written by T-Bone Walker! Duane said it at the beginning!

    TheMerryPup

@Sergio Schivazappa Hmmm. Must be thinking of another song.

  51. Darcy McEwen

    Bring it onnnnn

  52. Cody402

Just got all the dogs in the neighborhood barking

  73. Grandma Smith1949

I first fell in love with this song done by a local teen band. I didn't know there was music called the Blues, but I had them. Then I discovered The Allman Brothers. I knew there was a cure for my blues! This music and most especially for me this group was such a gift. I wonder how many other young white kids discovered that there was more than just Soul music and Rock&Roll this way? AM radio was so limited in the early '60s in small towns, anyway,

  74. michael john sutherland

A few years ago my dad got me a best of the ABB cd and I didn’t play it for a while, but once I did I couldn’t stop and it introduced me to other artists like bobby bland and it’s been amazing. I’ve been having a stormy Monday-Sunday recently and I’m putting a reminder in my calendar to come back here in 1 year to listen to this again (I’m sure there’ll be many more listens in between) but I’m hoping to remind myself that music like this resonates and can take you back to places/times/memories, so I hope in a year I’ll be able to look back and know the stormy Monday’s don’t last but to never forget them or how important music you love is and why it’s so important. Just hoping this version will still be uploaded.

  75. Bill Spencer

Have you heard the earlier version from the March 1971 recordings? Enter :
One Way Out (Live At The Fillmore East/1971/Second Show/Part 1) in the Youtube search box.

  76. Steve Allen

I'm  with h Beth, my good friend, and loving it...Daggummitt

  77. Alexander Henry

Duane's solo from Stormy Monday from 9/16/71 is amazing, although the sound quality is worse than this.
Duane Allman was the greatest electric guitar player of all time. Every individual in the band was a great musician, and they worked very well together. But Duane was the magic, the uncompromising, undeniable drive behind the band.
Jimi Hendrix had to travel to London and seek out Eric Clapton to break out. Duane Allman built a rock industry in the deep south where there had been none before, and Eric Clapton went to him. Duane was the best ever.
I don't know what my life would be like without His music. I may not be alive to leave this comment. Joy to the world.

  78. Free Free

    Man, what a band!

  79. Paul Dud

I grew up listening to Duane and Greg. Me and my older brother Tom were similar to them, Tom was born in 1951 and I in 53. Tom passed in 2001 and today, I have one foot in the grave !

  80. Levern Lewis

How can I get a copy of this iconic picture of the Allman Brothers all smiling with Duane Allman cupping at 8 ball in his hand

  81. Charles Wood

Late night or early morning, good women, good smoke and this song what could be better?

  82. Steve Eckstein

"NO QUESTION, SIMPLY PUT, " THE BEST", PASSES THE TEST, ABOVE THE REST ,FINALLY, THE HOLY GRAIL QUEST CAN BE PUT TO REST. ALLMAN BROS." FILLMORE" & "SOUTHERN COMFORT" WILL NEVER BE SURPASSED."

  84. Rick Urbina

Probably one the four or five greatest albums ever, I mean EVER recorded bar none.

  85. mike holley

I remember this song being played at a titty bar

  86. Phillip Reichard

This is actually the "remastered and reissued version" anyone that has been listening to this for 40 something years should've "remembered" the original release did NOT have Tom Doucette's "harp solo" or rhythm background fills...

  87. Ginny Jackson-Pownell

My all-time favorite!! When I went to college in Macon, GA.. they used to come on campus a lot and do free concerts..best of the best. Was a bummer when Duane got killed a month after I started college. This was recorded in July, 1971, and I started college in Sept., 1971 ~ Still a groovy granny lmao

  88. Bobby Twig

Of course, one of the great blues jams of all time!! Jam on Bros!!!!

  89. gdshdsfjhdh X

  94. Soul Sister

OUTSTANDING musicians. Favorite album of my youth!! Stormy Monday, nobody does this song as soulful and stimulating as the Allman Bros Band. Nobody!! The arrangement was truly a work of art. Luv It! 🎧🎶

  95. Edgardo Bier

Don't forget. There was a harmonica player. Not on the Allman lineup, but you hear him everywhere.

  96. anti thug

One of the best Live albums ever!

  97. Haitham Nady

    Raw music

  98. Darren Price

I wish we had bands like this today!

  99. Rich Swartzendruber

What's the deal? This isn't the same version as my Live and the Fillmore East album! There was no long harmonica solo on my record. I've heard it so many times I know the difference!
