Allman Brothers Band, The - Old Friend Lyrics
You know hard time is just an old friend, just an old friend to me
I say hard time is just an old friend, just an old friend to me
Tell me now, old friend, when you gonna let me be?
Can't you feel a cold wind howlin' down, blowin' my song
Well, I ain't an old man, but you know my time ain't long
Gonna be a hard rain - you can hear it in the distance, sounds so near
Gonna be a hard rain - you can hear it in the distance, sounds so near
People, when the rain comes, it's gonna wash us all away from here
Mean old woman, people won't you tell me where can she be
Mean old woman, people won't you tell me where can she be
She's the only woman that ever meant a damn to me
I say hard time is just an old friend, just an old friend to me
Tell me now, old friend, when you gonna let me be?
Tell me now, old friend, when you gonna let me be?
Tell me now, old friend, when you gonna let this poor man be?

This cover art may make some think this is an old Allman brothers song, but it's from their 2003 album, and that's Derek Trucks playing slide guitar with Warren Haynes.
I'll never forget riding on some country roads with my old man in his 1990 Chevy Silverado two door when I was real young. This song gives me so many good memories.
RIP WDL
This song is just so epic...it's everything I love about kick-ass bluesy sounding mother fucking rock and roll...

I , unfortunately (as a toddler.) introduced all of my Mom's sisters to the Greatful Dead.(Mr.Garcia, was a kind man to me .)
the pain...
That is not Greg singing.
Shelly Watson, you're right. It would be
Mr. Warren Haynes of ABB and Gov't Mule.

Sweet your headphone's on and just drift away. These songs off at The Fillmore East album are some of the greatest.
Hate to burst your bubble but this ain;'t off the great Fillmore East Album..Its from the 2003 "Hittin the Note"
So sad to hear of Gregg Allman's passing May 27, 2017. Grew up listening to their music, a big part of my life. So Sad! #RIPGreggAllman
Buietiful soul. raised my glass. seen ya in town.see ya around some day.
RIP Gregg :(
Today is the day.
Misleading....But real good.
this is what tight means kids
Mark Fisher Not to be that guy, but they are off in some places. Been listening to this song for years, didn't realise until a couple days ago
I love the sound of the room on this. The way the two guitars gel or that jelly -bread tone their kicking out. Way too cool!!!!
Only Warren and Derek played on this track.
50 people were born after 1985 and they confuse music with a heart monitor
just lay down and enjoy perfection
Slide Sslliiiide old friend.
It is fantastic...BUT, it is not off of the Fillmore East Album. Of that, I am sure. I cannot remember which one...but I will try and find out. This is really young THEM...Gregg still doing that Ray Charles...which he later perfected into his very own blusey grooowllll
judy Girl I'm so sorry to break it to you sweetie but that's not even Greg singing....heh... this is Warren Haynes not entirely your fault though... the picture makes things confusing...RIP Dwayne..
Hang on...I am listening now. I have listened to the Gregg for a long time....Just a second...It SAYS Allman Bros too. I knew the pic. was wrong....HOWEVER, you MAY be correct and I May stand corrected! Still love it..... You MAY be correct....thank you! I WAS suspicious...you can see...Ray Charles thing...I rest my case for not knowing. Break all my errors to me, PLEASE! I am still unsure now....will research. Send me to the album this came off of....The end sure sounds like Gregg and YES RIP, Duane! Berry Oakley too, RIP.
Tommy, I believe you are correct. My bad.
It is off the album "Hittin' The Note" released in 2003.
William Kobs== right you are.... finally after 5 months someone responded with the right answer....
+judy Girl...how old are you? this is not Gregg, and not the Fillimore East or West...and Gregg does do a great version of the Ray Charles/Stevie Wonder thing....
as good as it gets, this is it
This is just Warren Haynes (Vocals/guitar) With Derek Trucks (guitar) back stage in the dressing room.
not just.
This is not the same recording
this shake my blood
Was Derek playing with them at this time. He had to be pretty young.
Derek was 23 when the album "Hittin the Note" was released so he was still young....
all i can say is........Damn!

Doesn't get any better....
#OdedFriedGaon #OdedMusic #Audioded

TriplePlay : or Lowell George
Thank you for sharing this. Always a pleasure to hear anything from my favorite band. Quality, that is SOUL, just through the roof. You know it's good when it just freezes you in your tracks.
Incredible mix...hear the dual slides and the light bass drum comes in about 5:00.
These vocals really make my hairs stand up.....on my neck you pervs
thank you 💜
There were giants walking the earth in the days that this was recorded.
Not sure why there showing the Fillmore album than. I know they did not have this song on the album. it's been awhile since I've listened to them they have had a lot of different members through out the years and still were a good band but nothing like when Duane and berry I seen them at the the Fillmore East in 71 so that tells you my age us old people make mistakes ha ha but thanks for the info. Long live Greg and you to.
Pretty sure you're right about it not being on the Fillmore album. I believe this is Warren Haynes singing... so recorded much later than Fillmore.
Put Down Your Hand Held Devices And Listen To The Music.
Sorry if you took it literally.I was just trying to say to the folks out there who spend way too much time looking at their hand held devices to look around at the real world, thieir family, friends, pets ect.. Thats All.
+john Lenihan I'm know what you're saying I was just being a smart ass haha
Yes but is easier here I don't even own a cell ph:) & have the original of this :) dearly appreciate all the fine folks that download so much history on to utube:) a lot of time the sound is better also:) Yes keep it simple is more and more forgotten> "Peace take Practice" Rick western Co. Wichita Ks.
john Lenihan before I retired it was 2 hours music when I got home from work ,now that I'm retired music is playing in my home 18 hours a day ,if I'm awake music is playing right after I pour my coffee .
@JohnLenny got my I phone hooked up to my JBL flip rocking it Brother
James White....YOU ARE SO RIGHT111
Man oh man that white boy can play.. I'm a huge Hill Country Blues fan and guitar player... This right here is pure gold SON
To my old friend Tunney, in Old Texas, Heaven.
gorgeous.
The best slide ever!
. awesome .
OH YEAH
Warren Haynes totally owns this song.
+wudnhed58 Warren never got the cred he deserved, google some Gov't Mule
wudnhed58 This IS Gobt Mule not 70s Allmans
Warren is a brother of the highest order! When he was young and playin with Dickey then as the seasoned ABB staple and playin with Derek....Warren is the man!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hittin%27_the_Note
Warren and guitarist Chris Anderson (Outlaws) wrote this tune!
GREAT love it!!
Music like an old Friend !
Classic/Original...blues meets south mixed with rock
What the hell it sounds like the song is coming out of my left wall on my little poor computer..you got to be good to make that happen
@judy Girl Warren singing, no on else. It's easy to hear.
@Tyler Castens I never said it WAS Gregg...unless sometimes the song changes and you are writing on another one...all I see here is my fighting that it is Haynes...and, that IT WASN'T on Fillmore East. Doesn't sound anything like Gregg...I don't see where I said it was Gregg???I know 2 years have passed, I just got another notification that another person is telling me it is Haynes...and period. I know.
Thanks. Boy, I got really bitchy a year later...one year ago I picked a fight with someone....Geez.
@da324 I said that 2 years ago...saying, "I KNOW MY GREGG's...blah, blah blah!" I hate looking back, I am such an obnoxious bitch sometimes...I said it is not on Fillmore East and a lot of people have done it as it's an old standard. Good Lord! I go on to pick a fight and say do not presume to know what I know or don't know...if you disagree, back it up...I can't believe I was starting a fight. It is Warren no doubt...I haven't listened to it in awhile...if there is another voice in there, I don't remember...if you say no, I trust you. Oh, I see what set me off, this dope said I don't know my Allman brothers...I am set off again...I better get outta here before...It is Warren for sure. He played a lot with themm at the beginning and then, it was Toler (who I loved) with Dickey and, I wonder why Haynes stopped playing with them...perhaps a Dickey and Warren issue arose? Although Dickey played with Duane...2 lead guitar players are 2 huge egos, yet they were nothing short of telepathic. It sounds nothing like Gregg. I do not see where I said it did. Could a blog from a different song have gotten here? You know how the song ends and you keep typing....? I agree 100% Thanks. NOT GREGG. WH all the way...
@da324 My first comment was that it is misleading but I enjoyed it. I won't subscribe to this guy...he is misleading often...with a lot of stuff. Dimitris K. is here and he is a big ABBs uploader...he wrote the words for us and stayed out of it...I DO subscribe to him. If he puts a photo from another show up, he says so...anyway...almost 3 years later now...I am getting crap for correcting the mis spellings of Gregg's name and Duane's name. I understand getting Berry wrong but now Allman. If the road goes on forever, we better know the names...because all the rest we right is opinion and conjecture...I am always getting crap from someone here...not from you. YOU ARE CORRECT, I just don't see where or HOW I could ever say it was Gregg...there IS a version, but it's new of C&G Blues that Haynes does an amazing job of and with my eyes shut, I thought it was Gregg..but I didn't write it...thanks.
@Jimmy Ridinman See ... Duane Allman WAS the best .. in his time. At that time ... there was nobody better. That .. is no longer the case. Derek and Warren have taken what they could from Duane's playing, and his unique style of playing slide guitar, and they've "elaborated" on it. They've"added" their own style and their own unique riffs to make it even better !!! Some folks prefer the "Old School" style of playing, and that's just fine ... but, it mostly, all comes down to your "personal preference." Can anyone honestly say that Bob Dylan's version of "All Along the Watchtower" is "better" than Hendrix's version from his "Electric Lady-land" LP ??? It's the simple process of taking a "good" thing .. and making it even "BETTER" .... IMHO ~~~~ ....
Ηοw can I leard the scales in guitar
???Is there anyone who knows??
Thanks a lot richard..Your words are very enforcing .. Thanks a lot..
The song's in E i think. The other chords are just G and A.
A lot of times slide guitar work can like blend between different scales, but if you just practice the major scales and blues pentatonic you'll get the feel for it.
Look up Open E tuning. It is a good tuning to learn slide on, and very easy to tune to from standard.
+Richard Folkman Goddamn son..... I feel so much related to your reply to this gentleman, It especially reminds me of the days before the whole interweb ting. I went to library ALOT hehe:) and its so true what you say: the will, desire and passion for the music is the key, and nothing else.
I was beginning to think there wasnt any left of us "library guys" hehe. You in the states?
@uscr lvr Yes I am. Funny and cordial of you to send your comment. I took to Pasxalis's comment as honest enough to throw a big ' go for it' comment. All my son's are in their 20's, and all musicians and what we all believe is if you really want something, like in a strong creative way, you will sacrifice to build on it. I remember what Mr. Stevie Vaughn said in an interview, that he didn't need others to enjoy what he was doing to motivate him to play. It stuck. Libraries, home session, heck, bathroom jams!! Ha. But, you know what I mean.
+Jack Fin It's actually in open D.
bleeding fingers,sweatin ' blues..
+Richard Kuklinsky ......I know that name, Ice man.
yeahhhh!!!!!
