I really like you Kris, but this song is SO not you, it's practically a family joke. Sure, you can pull it off, but that doesn't mean you *should*. Stick to songs that reflect who you are and leave the so-so storytelling to musical theater and bad country music.
+Tatesa Spirit Yes, I know that's sort of the idea behind the song, but that theory only holds if it really is another side of the person, and everything about his work and persona clearly indicate it's not the case. It's like someone thought he should try to be edgy and it just doesn't work for him. It's a cool enough song, but it's definitely not him. It's one of the few inauthentic moments from any of his albums.
And anyway, why would anyone actually WANT this to be a side of them?? The character in the song is a terrible person.

And again, that whole persona goes against everything about his image. That's exactly my point. It's totally out of character for his entire career to be like, hey, everyone fantasizes about being a terrible person, go right ahead! Not even. It's not about fantasizing about being bad, it's about actually being bad. I'm glad he didn't try to explore this line further in his next album.
+Tatesa Spirit It's good to be nice! That's sort of what I've been saying all along, ha ha. But it's not good to yell at people, so that's not cool. Anyway, I wasn't really trying to argue (I posted my thoughts and someone came along and argued with *me*, remember?). Of course you're totally entitled to your opinion on a lyric and how a song makes you feel, I'm just talking about what the song actually *means* (and what it means coming from an artist with a body of work like Kris's). I said it wasn't a fantasy because in the lyrics it's telling a story like it's really happening, that's all.
No worries, it's not that important, just something that I think is kind of silly coming from Kris. It's like all his other songs are warm and fuzzy and a little hippie and very genuine and then this song comes on and I kind of roll my eyes because one of these things is not like the others.

Saw him perform this live last week. I had never heard this song before, but I absolutely fell in LOVE with it. I definitely want to cover it sometime. He sounded incredible live too. There is definitely a reason he won Idol.
