Allan, Gary - A Showman's Life Lyrics

A showman's life,
Is a smokey bar,
And the fevered chase,
Of a tiny star,
It's a hotel room,
And a lonely wife,
From what I've seen,
Of a showman's life,

Nobody told me about this part,
They told me all about the pretty girls,
And the wine,
And the money,
And the good times,
There's no mention of,
All the wear and tear,
On an old honky tonker's heart,
Well I might of known it,
But nobody told me about this part,

A boy will dream,
As children do,
Of a great white way,
Until the dream comes true,
And a phony smile,
In a colored light,
Is all there is,
To a showman's life,
Nobody told me about this part,

Nobody told me about this part,
They told me all about the pretty girls,
And the wine,
And the money,
And the good times,
There's no mention of,
All the wear and tear,
On an old honky tonker's heart,
Well I might of known it,
But nobody told me about this part,

But nobody told me about this part,

Nobody told me about this part,
They told me all about the pretty girls,
And the wine,
And the money,
And the good times,
There's no mention of,
All the wear and tear,
On an old honky tonker's heart,
Well I might of known it,
But nobody told me about this part,

Well I might of known it,
But nobody told me about this part

He has some of the most beautiful songs I love them

  3. n.... u....

What are you doing? Stay away from country singers songs that are so much bigger than you are. This version sucks ass.

  4. G.... M....

relax country fans. This is a Jesse Winchester song. GS did a good cover but Gary and Willie Nelson killed this one.

  5. E.... T....

I love G.S. but I have to give this to GARY

  6. d.... g....

Damn... what a one of a kind distinctive voice.... l have to give that ole boy credit for what he went through.. and continue to keep himself together.. 👊

  7. E.... T....

One of the BEST EVER concert I ever been too

  8. B.... ....

Great, great singer ...Distinctive voice...Great cover of this wonderful country song.

  11. J.... l....

Are you kidding. long live King George

  12. O.... O....

I love Gary Allen, but the ♔ did it better.

    O.... O....

No, Gary put more soul into it.

  13. J.... P....

no doubt this version is good but you should listen to jesse winchester "the writer of the song" version too. it's fantastic.

  14. D.... B....

I was front stage in Milwaukee Wisconsin back in early 2000’s and I didn’t know of you but after that day You became my favorite, Gary you are absolutely amazing you sing with great emotion and to continue to carry on with life after your tragic loss I tip my hat to you

  15. J.... D....

    GO Gary.

  16. A.... T....

I would have changed this songs name to "A Welders life" hahaha...

  17. K.... B....

I have to say he did out do the king on this one, especially the version with willie.

    K.... B....

The version with Willie is awesome!! Their a good match!

  18. s.... l....

    Jesse Winchester did it best

    s.... l....

steve laplante only good thing Jesse did to this is write the lyrics. He didn't do a damn thing to this to do it a.damn bit of justice

  19. D.... S....

Not this time and not ever could this song be done better that George strait did it!! Granted, Gary Allan did an awesome job with it, but this version doesn't have near the rhythm or the fluid chorus that straits does, but even of u put that aside, George simply has the better voice and would sing alot of songs better than others...... his and alot of others. Love both versions though. Cudos!!

    D.... S....

Danny Scheulen I like this version because it has more emotion and passion in it though

  20. S.... H....

My wife and I feel all his songs are about us lol. We enjoy his music so much

  21. B.... H....

    missing,u B"RYAN***R IP

  22. T.... M....

alot more soul than George put into it

  23. D.... ....

This man is, in my opinion, one of the most under-rated preformers ever. I'm sure not all people feel this way, but damn near every one of this guys songs seems to really reach me. Like no one could ever sing them any better. It's almost like there's an unseen connection there and he knows exactly what I like in a country song and that's what he does. The first song I ever heard from him was on the radio while at work one afternoon, and he was singing that song with no title. You know, the one about the old man shopkeeper who gets robbed and killed by those boys. It was just so great the way you could actually FEEL the sadness in his voice. I made up my mind right then, and stopped on the way home from work and bought the CD, and I've never looked back.

    D.... ....

jmlee 17, thank you so much for saying the title. I'm gonna go check it out as soon as I finish this comment. " Don't tell mama I was drinking" is really good too. And if you haven't heard and seen the video on here yet of "Today" you really need to. He absolutely kills it! I know there are different ones on here but in this one it looks like he's in a big inside building. It's hard to describe, but you really should check it out if you haven't seen it yet.

    D.... ....

100 %......he just does'nt do the political red tape b.s....like a lot of other artists!!! A rare breed for sure.

    D.... ....

    Yes! Very underrated.

    D.... ....

Couldn't have said it better myself! On point!

  24. D.... ....

Finally I find the version WITHOUT Willie Nelson. Sorry Willie, but Gary Allan don't need help on this one 😍😍😍

    D.... ....

DaniLJL see I love willie on the track

    D.... ....

    YOUR A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN

  25. R.... R....

    did George proud.

    R.... R....

??? Gary did this song LONG before George covered it.

    R.... R....

    This isn't George's song.

    R.... R....

It is now. George Strait sings it with Faith Hill. Don't get me wrong.

    R.... R....

Gary allen is one of the best ever and i grew up in the George Strait early years!

  26. D.... N....

Not as good as George but not to bad.

    D.... N....

Dennis Nichols it is better than George's id have to say and gary did this 14 or 15 yrs before george did. gary puts the emotion in it.

    D.... N....

I just checked George's version and though I love George Allan's version is so much better!

  27. B.... J....

this is where George got defeated.

    B.... J....

Brian Jackson no way! I like Gary Allen but he is a little piker compared too George Strait! Aka "The King of Country"

    B.... J....

    Brian Jackson and

    B.... J....

9 out of 10 times I would disagree. But this time you're right Brian. Gary did it better

    B.... J....

The only time ever someone did one of his songs better

  28. J.... R....

almost did it as good as king george.... almost

    J.... R....

Both got killed by Buddy. both covers

  29. J.... M....

    love it!!
