You'd have to be an absolute bonehead to not realize the Christian influence in these lyrics (although, Phil has since become very jaded with Christianity and even condemns it in later interviews).

When we talk about all the miracles in daily life, i bet you could name a few coincidences that arent very likely to occur but actually do, these could definitely be from Gods power and the power of prayer, like when jesus healed the blind and sick, this stuff works. I was wondering why do you call God a celestial tyrant? why would you make fun of my God? i dont make fun of yours. Would you make fun of a muslims God? why do people hate on Christianity and not others.

You dont know the whole story of the midianites... dont quote it if you just took what you learned from the internet when looking for a comeback. There is much background to the story. The Bible is a very long story put together by 66 books written by over 40 authors, written on 3 different continents in 3 different languages over 1500 years. and yet it all comes together as a very clear story well written and put together? i dont see how this can be possible without the power of God. thats one way God intervenes in our lives.

As far as the deaths i was speaking of those recorded in the bible. You saying God interferes with daily life and satan kills people is just unjustifiable claims. We know the reasons people die and its not because of satan. It's natural explanations. No need for your fairy tale magic in there. If your god interferes with human life daily then he becomes a testable hypothesis and guess what happens. Those tests show results of there being no outside interference.

The Bible spans multiple genres of literature which is important to keep in mind when analyzing a text. Different books serve a different purpose (I.e. History text, poetry, letters) which changes the way one understands a passage. That's just one consideration when reading the Bible. I personally know several folk who did their doctoral dissertation on analyzing the importance and application of biblical passages all the way down to the Greek manuscripts. Earning ones Mdiv or phd in theology counts for dozens upon dozens of scholar level books and academic journal. Point is, a good chunk of your objections are fair questions, but have been largely answered and understood in the Christian community (I acknowledge that many don't that should). You should really dig deeper in the opposing point of views. Look up Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem of basic Christian teachings. Lee strobel and a lister McGrath are a couple other authors/experts in the field.

This song is not an anti-Christian song. No god of love would be behind bigots, fanatics, or zealots who kill, rape, torture, and terrorize for their own sake in his name.

And just to be clear, this song was written back when Phil still believed in God, whom he thanks in the linear notes of this album.

Regardless of whether you are religious or not, the fact is that this song can connect to both sides of the spectrum, because the truth is that there are people who commit terrible acts in the name of God. I'm a Christian myself, but I don't get offended by this song because the people who do what this song talks about, who commit many sinful and evil acts supposedly "in the name of God," they're clearly not following the same God that I follow.
