Alkaline Trio - Warbrain Lyrics

[Spoken:]
"Thoughts are the shadows of feelings, always darker, emptier, and simpler.
I don't care if they're fake or real, I just thank that they're showing up at all.
I have black periods. Who does not? But they are not a part of me; they are not a part of illness, but a part of my being.
Some might say I have the courage to have them. It's four o' clock in the morning. This sucks."

I can't go on
You said my head's too heavy
I need that song
Those trusty chords could pull me through
and early on
they saw the warning signs and symptoms all day long
We sit and dream of better days

Where we'd hit the ground running on empty stories we've been told
And all those nights we spent together never felt this fucking cold
When we let the car run in the driveway kiss you one last time
Before we brought the horses in before the storm of '59, of '59, of '59

I can't go on, these limbs have grown too heavy
I need that song
A night on earth could pull me through
and early on
They saw the warning signs and symptoms all day long
Wonder how far from here we'll fall

Before we hit the ground running on empty stories we've been told
And all those nights we spent together never felt this fucking cold
When we let the car run in the driveway kiss you one last time
Before we brought the horses in before the storm of '59, of '59, of '59 [x3]

This song is like a time capsule to a decade old emotions.

“Before we brought the horses in before the storm”

Someone can tell me what is that means?

    I.... ....

Not sure exactly, but Viet Nam started in 1955, which could mean the first troops home would have come home in 1959. Horse is another word for heroin, and I know a lot of vets came home heroin addicts. It's just a theory, not saying it's fact. That's the beauty of lyrics is they can make you think, and you can take them how you want. =)

Christopher McConnell now makes sense haha thanks.

I’m Brazilian, and here we have an expression kind similar, in a literal translation sounds like “take out your horse from the storm”, and that’s means you should lost your expectations and hope, and I thought it’s something like this what Matt wanted to say

    I.... ....

@Insomniac I was listening to 50's music today and heard Ritchie Valens. Valens, Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper all died in a storm in 59 as well, so maybe that's what Skiba is referencing. I don't know lol. Like I said in my earlier reply, these are just theories

Agreed. Rock Against Bush vol 2 had some good tunes on it too.

The song has nothing to do with politics though. Like many Skiba songs, it's about depression.
