Alkaline Trio - Blackbird Lyrics

Anyone know the story behind this song?

This was on the radio this mornign and I loved it right away. I thought it a tragedy when read their singer joined Blink 182 which I deem a cash cow act, a product while this has a very unique and original style.

I know there's a lot of debate on the matter, and at first I was not thrilled that Matt joined Blink. (I love Blink, too and didn't want to see Tom replaced). But I really loved "California".

That said... YES!!! New Alk3! When I saw they were playing a show here in October, I thought to myself "I really hope they come out with some new tunes before then." The sweet bastards aren't disappointing. I LOVE this song, and can't wait for the new album, and too see them live again.

Alkaline Trio is back! I saw them play in Austin last weekend. and they were as good as ever. If Matt Skiba can stop goofing around with Blink 182, maybe we won't have to wait another 5 years for the album after this one!

I always feel like there's a 'Smiths' sound to the vocals that is quite unique in alternative music. Pretty cool.

After a few listens it sounds very intentional the way this was mastered..MSkiba vocals blended&smooth and w/Dans brighter harmonies in the background..you can hear the layers individually just enough to create that eerie blended tone ❤️ it hits hard right when it should and highlights the right shit at the right time; just how my ears hear it🌹

I don't hear the connection to fire. It sounds more like something from Infirmary. But it definitely sounds like Alkaline Trio and it definitely kicks ass.

They never change their sound and style.. love it

They did on Agony and Irony, but thank fuck they returned to what they do best. That's not to say that Agony and Irony is a bad record, but it's certainly not the Trio they were prior to that record.

Ehh little bit. My favorite album is probably good mourning. I love them all though I really do.

My favorite has always been Maybe I'll Catch Fire. That entire record encompasses absolutely every strength they have.

That drum sound is not good

Been an ALK3 fan since 2001 and still adore their sound- I do however wish their 'single' could follow less of a that traditional pop structure and cadence...e.g., This Addiction, Warhol, and now Blackbird are structured identically and generally follow the same melodies...once you get into the album you find the rich ALK3 you're used to...I don't know maybe this critique is useless since they still crush it :)

IMO, Alkaline has lost a bit of its edge (which is understandable). They became my favorite band some 10 years ago. I fell in love with the rich and rhythmic way they delivered such powerful metaphors that related to the emotions I have felt in my own life. Their growth as a band has been consistent, which I admire, but I miss the lyric fluidity; that strong symbolism that shown through their songs which gave them depth. Nowadays, it seems like they paint a picture with only primary colors and leave much less for the listener to interpret for themselves. I miss that depth.

I too miss that aspect. Everything changed sometime around Agony and Irony.
