Alison Moyet - Other Lyrics

I don't know precisely which day
Coloured me other
Perchance it may've been a slow bleed

So I cut out whichever shape I need
I don't sue for rescue
I'm as free as I have ever been

Don't want another rock
To hang about my neck
You see bejewelled
I see bedecked
In dead stars

And nothing
Touching me
Nothing touching me

I am glad for open windows
I call for birds that do not come
You beacon dead eyed welcome

Bones bleach off the city
And when I'm done I'm done I'm done
Keep the turn over our aim

I don't want to look upon another word
This heart so lightly thrown
I say disarm I hear disown
It sounds familiar

And nothing
Touching me
Nothing touching me

I don't want another rock
To hang about my neck
You see bejewelled
I see bedecked in dead stars

I don't want to look upon another word
This deal so lightly spent
And what says here
Says came and went
It sounds familiar

Nothing's touching me
Nothing's touching me

Wow..go Alison. This is deeper, more refined and more perfectly performed than any female artist today. I'll see her live in a couple months live and I know it will be an experience to remember. Congrats Alison. Your voice calls at a time when the world needs to hear it. This song just captivated me. Welcome again my love, it's great to hear your voice...

Hi All, as of Friday 23rd June, Alison`s New album `Other`, is a NEW entry into the U.K album charts, hitting Number 12...This is lower than I personally expected and proves the point, that you have to do some follow-up T.V/Radio promo work, to ensure that the album has some `legs` going into the final chart position, at the end of the week. The album is a fantastic follow-up to `The Minutes` and it would be disappointing to see it `fall away` after just 1 week, in the Top 20. We can imagine that there will be strong interest in the album when Alison begins the World Tour, but initial `Selling` of the product, is essential...

    P.... K....

Hi All, `Other` has dipped to number 34 on the Mid-Week Album Chart here in the U.K.

  31. R.... L....

Great comments everyone. Great to see nothing negative for a change. I find it incredible that most of these comments are by males. Come on girls, leave Katy Perry on the shelf and get on board with a great female artist. Although she does have a, sometimes, masculine voice, certainly sings a few octaves lower than David Surkamp (Pavlov's Dog).

  32. P.... T....

How easy it is to fall in love...

  33. X.... K....

  39. v.... ....

One of the best ever...not only does she have a fantastic voice but her songwriting shines above most

  40. P.... K....

Hi All, aside from this track `Other` becoming better still with each listen, Alison has been invited to talk about her 35 year music career with Claire Sturgess from Absolute Radio, on Sunday 18th June, the brilliant and Beautiful one`s Birthday, no less! It will be Broadcast at 9pm...This segment of their programming: Non-Stop Absolute 80`s, is always entertaining and apart from the great music that they play, is one of the best things about this Radio Station. Last year they did an interview with Martyn Ware of Heaven 17 ( ex Human League), and it is worth a retro listen. Cheers.

  48. L.... B....

    No words.....

  49. A.... M....

Oh dear Alison you are always so right in time! I mean in terms of music, emotions, moods, world madening condition and disease. You just arrive and save the day with your new record. Ironic? I don't know. Simply thank you for existing and creating, Alison. Your new single is, and I'm aware you'd appreciate some more complex vocabulary, so I'll try: astounding, spellbinding, heart-rending, galactic, floral, existential, esoteric, enthralling and enigmatic ...

  50. D.... V....

Such a simple, stripped back, unaffected song. Sung with a tenderness and raw emotion that not only gets to the feelings... but really stirs them up. Emotion so much so, that it borders on being heartrendingly sad from the first few notes in. If this song was a piece of glass it would be on the verge of breaking into a thousand tiny pieces with the slightest touch. That`s how delicate it is—and therein lies its strength. Poetic, melancholic, poignant, sublime, transcendent—these are words which could be used to describe `Other`... yet, as music goes I don`t think it`s so easily defined. For locked deep within is that added dimension that mere words can`t quite express. You really have to listen with your feelings, and more importantly, with your heart (for if the heart is not engaged there`s just so much that regrettably can be missed). I liken it to a painter, who, with the finest and most delicate of brushstrokes transfers their private innermost feelings to canvas. It`s incredibly brave, as it`s putting something intensely personal into public hands and then hoping that those listening-in will grasp the true nature of what`s being said. It`s the sort of music that puts the emphasis on the fundamental value that `less is definitely more`, and in doing so, succeeds wonderfully in making its point.

  51. J.... C....

Hauntingly beautiful . Alison Moyet sounds like she's yet again in top form . "Other" is going to be a great follow-up to the wonderful "the minutes" .

  59. w.... ....

    My God.

    Thank you, Ms. Moyet.

  60. a.... ....

The splendor of Moyet's presense in this achingly bare video makes me feel like I am intruding on such a gripping personal moment and yet I cannot look away.
The intensity of emotion... combined with pure vocal talent and poetic composition is awe-inspring... it takes my breath away. I cannot believe they just give Grammys away when talent like this goes ignored by mainstream.

Hi Seekingsolace, you would have imagined that her `Official` Website would have posted the lyrics and brilliant job for doing what her `Record-Label` and `Management`, should have ensured in the first place...Isn`t it the minor details, that are always overlooked, but somehow reflected on and forever remembered...Thanks Seekingsolace, cheers.

    s.... ....

Paul Kennedy It was a pleasure to try and transcribe. I have no bad feeling toward her label or management. At least they have offered her creative freedom to collaborate with someone as great as Guy Sigsworth...

  67. s.... ....

This is so arresting. Stopped in my tracks. Jaw dropped
I grew up hearing Alison's voice as a child but it's only now, aged 34, through this song, that I connect so deeply with it.

a stunning peace of art; u may hear this beautiful english Lady has arrived @ the centerpoint of her artistic career. I am really thankful following Alison Moyet with every step of her growing poetric music from the very beginning.

  89. g.... ....

    exquisite! <3

  90. D.... H....

Alison to the rescue!!! In a bleak year for politics, it's music and film that prove to be the only salvation. 2017 is going to be much more manageable now thanks to Alison Moyet, David Lynch's Twin Peaks, and other such fabulosities to look forward to...

    D.... H....

I feel the same. And even this song seems to be about the same, in a way. The state of suspended hope...the will to be here, but not really knowing why...

  91. E.... T....

Beautiful artist, voice and individual. I have loved Alison for a very long time.

  92. T.... B....

  97. C.... S....

a window into the soul. truly inspired. thank you for continuing to be the soundtrack to our lives.x

  98. G.... ....

Utterly stunning. Poetic. Melancholic. Courageous. Sublime. Moyet is never less than brilliant but this is right up there with her very best. I'm now all the more confident that 'Other' will be THE album of the year. Incredible.

    G.... ....

Album of the year for us fans Gordon but not for the pop world! I could not care less. I love the artistic work she's been offering us the past 35 years.

    G.... ....

Hi John, Agreed, it is a superb album but like it or not, Alison`s career was only possible from her media exposure from her time in Yazoo, which gave her the chance and opportunity to `Make-It`, as a Solo artist, that we recognise and respect today...Everything else is irrelevant...Despite Alison`s own declarations of being PUNK and `Non-Scene` during her formative years in music, Without the `POP` element that Vince and herself brought to the collaboration that became Yazoo, many would speculate, despite Alison`s unmatchable vocal talents, she would have remained in the shadows, unappreciated on the wider stage, being only applauded, by the few...Doing gigs in the pubs and touting your talent in less worthy venues is one thing, but missing and then refusing to acknowledge the chances, that are given to you, is a situation that no deserves...One of the underlying factors that seem to be missing from those soloist`s and groups that `Makes-It`, amongst there countless thousands of `Wannabes` desperate to be acknowledged in the public arena, is what actually brought them to public attention and therefore `Success`, in the first place. `Stars` oftentime (I will ignore this American auto-correct to this word, through belligerence) can sneer dismiss all they want, about their past but without the initial sacrifices to privacy, sanity and `Compromises` in the early days, you will always remain a Could`ve been...

    G.... ....

Paul Kennedy ....and your point is....?

    G.... ....

I beg to differ here...I did not realize her talent until she released "Alf". "Invisible" got quite a bit of radio play here in Houston. It was not even until the release of later albums did I learn of her work with Yazoo or Yaz. For me, her media exposure was after those early years. I love the earlier music but that is not what got me on the Alison bandwagon.

    G.... ....

    and me - I'm stunned.
