Alison Krauss - Nothin' Lyrics

Hey mama, when you leave
Don't leave a thing behind
I don't want nothin'
I can't use nothin'

Take care into the hall
And if you see my friends
Tell them I'm fine
Not using nothin'

Almost burned out my eyes
Threw my ears down to the floor
I didn't see nothin'
I didn't hear nothin'

I stood there like a block of stone
Knowin' all I had to know
And nothin' more
Man, that's nothin'

As brothers our troubles are
Locked in each others arms
And you better pray
They never find you

Your back ain't strong enough
For burdens doublefold
They'd crush you down
Down into nothin'

Being born is going blind
And buying down a thousand times
To echoes strung
On pure temptation

Sorrow and solitude
These are the precious things
And the only words
That are worth rememberin'

  1. Steve Roloff

I adore Allison and no one has such a sweet voice! She is the best. I will say that when I was young, I had a Robert Plant poster on my wall! Led Zeppelin was my favorite band. I graduated in '86. This album is pure genius! And Robert still has it. This may be the best he ever did!

  2. Robert Roberts

This is one of the best songs I've ever heard.

  3. MrFdu4

Floats. Yeah. The best definition of this song. It floats. And it makes you float. Incredible piece of art.

  4. Eoghan Cosgrave

Big Townes Van Zandt and a big Robert Plant fan and this is one of my alltime favourite songs some I'm chuffed to find this !

  18. GD G

I've listened to a few tracks on this album now and I can't believe how bad the percussion is. It's as if the drummer / percussionist just couldn't be bothered or couldn't work out what each track needed. It's so 'lumpy' and neanderthal.

    Mari B

Isnt it meant to sound like that

  19. Grammaton Cleric

Like a gillie clad sniper optic panning the field in slow mo. I din't hear nothin'..

    Jonas Hjerpe

    Beautiful image--thanks man!!!

  20. JoJo Hamilton

    We Are But Nothin...

  21. Danny Shutts

    damn...damn...damn...

  22. karen tompkins

Clear of all allusions, spring cleaning of the soul.

  23. Diana Taylor

It doesn't get better than this. This is my favorite from the CD.

  24. MIDNIGHT POWERED

You know it's good song it makes 5 minutes feel like hours of pure awesome.

  25. Mr Sandman

I know Robert would never do this but his voice sounds like he's using auto tune effects. It's heavenly <3

  26. Gutsuf

  27. willy vlyminck

Give me the original version anytime

  28. eva redmond

This song is so amazing. Depth, submission, anguish, drama and peace I love it!

  29. Gökhan Eren

sorry people but townes van zandt is best !

    Ben S Hammonds

    yep, sure is

    Joel Frankford

Doesn't mean this is bad, though. I don't get why people argue over covers. They aren't supposed to be better than the original. A good cover should make you appreciate the original more.

    berk deniz

Gökhan Eren sekter lan hipster olcaz retro olcaz diye akdeniz akşamları gibi şarkıyı övüyon

    Michael VanDyke

Doesn't matter, it's not their video!!!

  30. EyeDee

Sounds very Peaky Blinders-y. Fantastic tune

  31. Guigley

This is one of the sexiest songs I've ever heard.

  32. Nicholas Gomez

Alt j listening to this on repeat in college

  33. Кирилл Березин

    очхорошо!

  34. George Cartwright

Wow, Townes Van Zandt song. wow

  35. markus

They dishonor Townes Van Zandt with this,  I am a fan of RP, AK and TVZ...but some things you just don't fuck with, and this TVZ mean and dark masterpiece is one of them. It sounds horrible.

    maldoror2007

Townes wrote that at the age of 27. What at gift. Plant recorded this one at the age of 60 or something. He should have done it the Cash way on American Recordings, I mean, the pure shit, not this cowboy-style, jesus christ ...

    EyeDee

    So says you...

    markus

AyeeDee87 - Crawl back under your rock, insect

    EyeDee

m your original reply was better 😂😂

    Ya fucking failure.

  36. ronald3ify

    masterpiece!

  37. john steele

the song stands on it's own as a masterpiece. yet I wonder how it would sound with Jimmy Page contributing. This is now my favourite "Solo" work by Robert Plant. I am in awe!

  38. Jed Farley

I was honestly drunk and a little high on E back in 2010 the first time I heard this. it really hit me that night. here I am years later remember how good it is.

  39. 43mackmobile

I hate to tell you Robert but you fucked that one up real bad.

    markus

thank you for telling the truth!

  40. Carbonite Gamorrean

h0Leeeschvit, why does this remind me of sex.?.?.

  41. Michael Gannon

it took 32 years. but Robert created a followup track to Kashmir

    john steele

Indeed! truer words cannot/will not be uttered!

    Diana Taylor

Love, love, love Kashmir! But this song is...extraordinary! You are on the money!

    Thomas Vriens

He didnt create this song, it`s a original by Townes van Zandt

    Mykl Aaron

Absolutely not. This is a great cover though

  42. IOK Wasamatau

If you're contemplating ending it all, this album just might put you over the edge. Sheesh! Take in small doses!

  43. Doyle Gaines

Fantastic rendition of one of my favorites. Thanks!

  44. Quaerendo Invenietis

Something you want floating into your ears, swimming through your consciousness, when you're on your way to handle the kind of business no one else has the balls to do. ☘️

    Sheila Orlando

Quaerendo Invenietis what a perfect way to describe this song! I agree

  45. stephen jedlicka

Can't say who wrote this either? Huh.....
RIP Townes Van Zandt..... I know you're rolling in your grave

  46. Kenneth William Elkington

Remarkable interpretation of Townes' biting honesty and all too real torment... but... Townes really does own it: wrote it... sings and plays it raw and unadorned... the best, by a mile.

    stephen jedlicka

    Kenneth William Elkington amen!

    john steele

I was a bit afraid of the "electric" sound when the song started...but...WOW! so poignant! Well done Robert and miss Alison!

    markus

Amen. I see this as another RP ripoff.

    EyeDee

    m yeah yeah....

  47. Joseph Wilkins

A stunning cover of a remarkable song.

  48. Kari RED

    Lovely song !

  49. slifeleaf

hmm, what "I can't use nothin'" means?

    Marsh Wetland

means "I have no use for anything" - not just in the place they lived together, but in life.

    EyeDee

slifeleaf why don’t you enlighten us?

  50. Lukasz Mazurek

my favorite piece from "Raising Sand"...pure magic!!!!!!!!

  51. James MacGregor

Favourite song from this album, favourite song from a male musician. This is old school rock 👌

  52. thyamelate

Townes would be proud of this cover. It's just great music

    bfgbdfgbd

    +thyamelate
Townes has a very, very, very intense place in my life. I've never heard a cover of townes so move me. I sing this cover when I paint.

    stephen jedlicka

thyamelate he'd be proud of his name was on the bill.....

  53. SHERRY W

this song floats like smoke, like going from satin to sandpaper.  Beautiful and haunting
The master has a muse, what a combination.

    Maria Farooq

    Excellent description

    Michael Niesner

    Don't forget Townes' contribution!

    Vicki Mingus

@Michael Niesner Townes was a great writer...I wore this xd out. I didn't like Plant's on stage of this...Too much noise

  54. Richard Meyer

Her fiddle...... so haunting. One of the best songs ever recorded. Fucking incredible.

    john steele

It grabs me around the neck and lifts me...the song affects in a physical way...

    Vicki Mingus

Townes was such a great writer...Haunting and he couldn't lay it down,

    Vicki Mingus

Plant can always make a new tune from any song...Townes Van Zant song I watched Plant do this on stage and it was waiting for him all these yrs.......

  55. Tanishtha Dasgupta

  57. Tabitha Syrah

    this shit fuckin' rocks

    43mackmobile

It fucking sucks, go listen to Townes VanZandt

    john steele

John Townes owns the song....still I grateful that Robert Plant has chosen to share the music he himself has been touched by.

  58. lexanderal

    Magnificent

  59. THEBEASTHbt09

Why did he not use the correct lyrics? " take care and to the hall and if you see my friends tell them I'm fine" is the second verse! Takes so much from the song just because we are expecting it ya know, otherwise great job mr plant!

    Hugh Graham

    +subg88
as TVZ counsels: Sorrow and solitude
    These are the precious things
    And the only words
    That are worth rememberin'

    Maikel B

its bcouse his songs are freaky popular, it is not only the words you have to know, its what melody and what voice it makes perfect..... not to take everything from others

    BJ Kroft

Thats why its a tribute and not a cover

  60. Bella Bianca
