They are the last real hard rock band. They were dark in reality. Not satanic bullshit. Bands today are a joke. Got sleeves? Check eyeliner? Check. Singer look like wanna be pro wrestler? You know it. Shit songs about vets and the us of a ? Check- barf fuck yes.

This Band does something for me that I still rarely get off any other band out and this song is one of many that just make you feel ok for that moment and sink in your chair and let the deep lyrics run through you . I hope these guys know just how much their music has meant to so many and how much it carried us through .

Remember where I was when I heard this first. Saw the video as a teen. Shortly thereafter bought the album—first real intro to AiC.

The rest of the album was amazing. Even had a dark green jar of flies shirt.

Wish Layne could have kept up with his new sobriety.. He looked healthy in this video and down in a hole. Moreso in down in a hole. After that, he started using again and by the time I stay away was done in claymation and the ones before that where he was in a suit and sunglasses his face and body were so gaunt and you knew he was hiding the needle marks under the gloves. My Father died Saturday night at 43 (Just a few hours before the 10th anniversary of Black Fades Way to Blue). Alice in Chains was his absolute favorite band in the world, even our Shiba Inu dog is named Chains. I've been doing a very good job of keeping myself together, having only really cried the night it happened. But today when I heard this song I started cracking. Love you Dad, miss you.

I still remember givin the MTV unplugged album of them to a girl of mine, She Said She only liked this song, the others were to dark lol

AIC was a million times better than Nirvana. I always thought nirvana was overrated as fuck. And when Kurt killed himself it raised their popularity. Nirvana is an icon. But their music was so bland. Same corny powerchords cheesy meaningless lyrics. I’m ok with them. But nowhere near the level of other bands of that era. Their mediocrity made it easy for many to keep up with I feel.

But when you listen to AIC, it’s just right. The guitar. The lyrics. The vocal harmony. Their music. I can hear and feel the emotion radiate. Drums. Bass lines and Jerry’s solos fit perfectly.
I enjoy that there is some technicality.

Nirvana was just noisy. Kurt was an awful guitarist and vocalist. I dig what Dave did tho. He’s an amazing drummer. But other than that. It was just meh with them.

There's only 1 AIC, and that's with Layne Staley in it.

I used to listen to this as a freshman in high school. The lyrics take on a much more profound meaning now as I’m pushing 40 and after being chewed up and spit out by similar demons that unfortunately took Layne.

no one fucking understands what this song means to me. This song is my very first memory of music. Layne's voice is probably one of my earliest memories. I forced my parents to replay No Excuses in the car OVER AND OVER again to the point where my sister doesn't even like the song to this day (she likes it but is forever tired of it. idk how?). This song is engraved in my memory and heart just as Layne is. Rest in Peace Layne, we think about you everyday
