Alice In Chains - Last Of My Kind Lyrics

So young, so brazen, so unholy
I come to you in painted skies
You're broken saint, your ancient story
The living challenge to their lies

Trapped in the cold outside
There ain't no shelter
And they want to force my hand
Until I take what I wanted
And break all the lies
And defeat the fucking liars
Smash all the temples
And crawl through the rubble
And cry to the fallen

I'm the last of my kind still standing
I'm the last of my kind still standing down the law...

A wolf alone upon the hillside
I live on what they throw away
I go to sleep behind the eight ball
I live to fight for one more day

I'm trapped in the cold outside
There ain't no shelter
And they want to force my hand
Until I take what I wanted
And break all the lies
And defeat the fucking liars
Smash all the temples
And crawl through the rubble
And cry to the fallen

Take what I wanted
And break all the lies
And defeat the fucking liars
Smash all the temples
And crawl through the rubble
And cry to the fallen

I'm the last of my kind still standing
I'm the last of my kind still standing down the law...

I'm the last of my kind still standing
I'm the last of my kind still standing down the law...

I'm the last of my kind still standing
The last of my kind still standing

Alice In Chains Last Of My Kind Comments
  1. Nathan Never

What a beautifuly brutal song and those heavy rifs are masterpiece, apsolutley thumbs up

  2. Shane

Best song on the album by far! The sooner Jerry figures out that William is more than worthy of lead duties, the better the albums will be

  3. marisol leon

    Piper is better

  4. tuNppu85

Damn, this has heavy and haunting sound. Just like Dirt or Facelift songs. And DuVall makes one of the best performances with this masterpiece. Also go and see them live. They are in outstanding live condition.

  5. Joe Townsley

Jerry is all metal ,lane gave him something to go on with.

  6. Nick Kohlmann

    They're fucking great live.

  7. Brady Hess

I have burned all my bridges at church too. I still attend a small Bible study once a week that me and a couple of friends started. We may start our own church if we can ever get it together between us.

  8. Tyler Moreau

I really like this. But does anyone else think it sounds like Drangula but slower?

    JoeNoshow27

I heard Dragula for the first time and immediately thought of this song. Checked out the video to see if anyone else had noticed. The riffs are almost identical.

  9. Dave Kellar

I’ve now heard this about 50 times in a day why?bc aid hadn’t had a song like this in a long time the first refrain is killer

  10. Brady Hess

my experience with church was better than that. I am still welcome there, but I don't disagree with them lest God punish them for being contrary. I quit attending because I got tired of seeing them get hurt and the worship music is boring. Lovely song.

  11. Dave Kellar

Pretty good first time hearing this— let Williams voice out he’s pretty good with heavy stuff

  12. Clint Wolf

    Omg fucking awesome

  13. Clint Wolf

  14. Sebastien Crusener

Probably my favourite song on the album, the vocals are insane!

  15. Darth Darth Binks

I really want to know about the sounds and stuff at the beginning. I wonder if it's from old content or songs or something.

  16. Jason Good

  28. Brian McNamara

Ohohhhh, from out upon the hillsideeeee...

  29. brbosen

I love this song. It was the first moment that made me say, "hell yes. this guy can front my favorite band and I will continue to support them." His style and strength as a singer is so on point in this song. Plus, it rocks!

  30. Diggarci

This song sounds very close to Metallica stuff. Love them both.

    Adam Turner

Metallica ripped this sound off for two albums. . . They wished they was alice in the 90's. True

  31. tbrancs03

Always thought this sounded like a Pantera song

    Mobes

I could see it with some more technical drumming

    OcelotDAD

  32. Francesco Caiafa

I heard the intro of thanks anyway of Jerry cantrell (degradation trip)!!,i love the album and all the songs and this song kicking my ass too!!! AIC will be for ever my favourite band of all time!. Jerry Rocks, William Rocks,R.I.P. Layne😇😇

  33. Jonas Butler

Will kills it. Jerry got some pipes too. It aint the same, but I'm AIC for life.

    Jonas Butler

Lol. Yeah, I meant William DuVall. Must have had to many windows open again.

  34. Brian Talbot

  35. Jimmy The Clown

I really Love William, he's Hot and a Great Dude :)

    Adam Turner

    Ewwww .....

  36. Common Man

Jerry still making his guitar his bitch. Hardest creative riffs ever in my opinion. Underrated.

    Arthur G

Not so hardest riffs. BUT Jerry is a solid composer, not a guitar neck-wanker. His songs and, particularly, riffs are the fucking adamant pillars in the Rock universe history. The ingenious is always simple!

    Common Man

Richard Skipper Completely agree. Listen to all of the songs he composed and tell me he isn't very unique.

  37. Kevin Erives

This song reminds me of a girl who broke my heart

  38. David Creigh

    Vinyl Diary666

    Damn Killer!

    Common Man

Fuckin capital A. Jerry's riffs always got my undivided attention.

  47. Charlie D

From 4:35 to about the 5:00 mark, you think you're listening to Layne - if that doesn't put a smile on your face, nothing will. :)

    Grunge Tone

Charlie Doherty Damn dude. I never caught that. Heavy.

    Taza Torres

Richard Skipper the level of right you are is what's haunting 🕸🤘

    KryptOnline

I don't hear anything of Layne in DuVall's voice. Good. Layne is gone and I didn't want a replacement. The dude is one of my favorite singers of all time, he's fucking astounding, but I didn't want Alice to replace him, I wanted them to reform with a new singer and that's what they did. Reform a new sound while still maintaining some of what has made them great. And they did exactly that. That's why they are my favorite band of all time.

  48. Frankie Boy

    Yeah! My favourite AIC song!

  49. Ljubomir Mihailovic

    Lucifer servant theme.

  50. Cyota Corolla

is it just me or does this song have Japanese elements in first few minutes?

  51. RedJester68

The first few seconds makes me think of Silent Hill.

  52. andrewf0784

This sounds like it would fit right in on the album Dirt... Awesome

    Paul Bertuleit

I've had the dirt album in my truck for the past week or so, I definitely have to agree.

  53. Jonas Butler

That drop at 3:25 is my favorite part. But it's nothing without the 3 minutes that precede it!

    Nicolás Riveros

totally agree. I start headbanging with a evil face when that part come down

    Chase McCracken

    finally someone gets it

    Nick Kohlmann

@Nicolás Riveros Seen them live a few days ago. Agree

    KindredSouls

    Absolute face melter

  54. Megafayce

Gotta love the James Bond chord progression

  55. Letícia Abrahão

    One of the band's best.

  56. Samvis Gamgod

I don't care what anyone says - old or new, Alice in Chains will smite thee in all its doomy glory.

    Dave Kellar

Did you just drop acid?.old rules

    TheHorrorBoy

Samvis Gamgod still love this band they’re doing a great job

    Catrat Halfrack

    I love this one

  57. 414kj

i love jerry, but william needs more of the vocal duties, this song is fucking epic!

    Devin Michael Roberts

Yup, it's gotten worse on the new album. They essentially just use William live and on the albums he's a backup singer. A lot of people do not know but one of the main reasons that Layne stepped away from AIC wasn't because of his addiction at first, it was actually because Jerry and the label kept pressuring Layne to let Jerry become lead singer and lead more of the singles and Layne wouldn't stand for it. He didn't think Jerry was a good singer at all. I remember reading that in an article in the 90's.

    Devin Michael Roberts

Of coruse if you read recent interviews Cantrell tries spinning it as the opposite that it was Layne who got him to start singing more but if you read press from the actual time period it was clear that the label and Jerry found Layne unreliable and for fear of him quitting the band they wanted Jerry to take over lead vocals so the band could survive Layne quitting. Layne resisted

    Padawan Sound

I agree with you - one of the reasons I was reluctant to enjoy new AIC was because I'm actually not a big fan of Jerry's voice. He's good at backing vocals, but on lead duties he sounds a bit weak. His voice doesn't have the same edge as Layne/Duvall's. I'd actually be way more into AIC new stuff if Will sang more.

  58. FaZe The Incredible Hunk ZombieSlayer

He is the last of his kind. He is the last black guy who makes good music.

    Jacob Barnett

him and Dug Pinnick of Kings X

    Jim488 Gaming
