Alice In Chains - Drone Lyrics

In my eyes you are beautiful
Not just right, perfect spiritual
I did what I had to do to get higher

Spent myself on another, entangled like lovers
Not quite dark, not quite light

Steppin' in and out of madness
Such a dedicated drone
And though you find me rather tragic
I'll stay here and feed my pet black hole

In the time I have spent with you
Unconfined, beyond physical
I did not regret my time on the wire

Spent myself on another, entangled like lovers
Not quite dark, not quite light

Steppin' in and out of madness
Such a busy bee, a drone
And though you find me rather tragic

I bear the cost, can't dull my anger
And that's fine
Built up inside, obscuring danger
It's alive

In my eyes you are beautiful
Not just right, perfect spiritual
I did what I had to do to get higher

Spent myself on another, entangled like lovers
Not quite dark, not quite light

Steppin' in and out of madness
Such a dedicated drone
And though you find me rather tragic
I'll stay here and feed my pet black hole

Pet black hole
Pet black hole
Pet black hole

So beautiful

  1. M.... L....

Such an INCREDIBLE song. So much swagger. One of their best, as far as I'm concerned.

  2. R.... W....

    What's whispered at like 6:12 ?

  3. D.... N....

Love the way Sean Kinney’s drumming plays to Jerry Cantrell’s guitar

  4. J.... K....

Can't stop listening to the album and it's 2019. It's been a month straight every day. Classic!!

  5. L.... ....

It's like sickman, but less sick.

  6. C.... A....

33% of people - this album is weak!
33% more - no Layne no Chains!
33% more - best AIC album ever!
    1% - I need to download Grammarly.

  7. A.... J....

This album is Grunge, all grown up. You can tell they have grown intellectually. Stills kicks ya ass, but it also has more intricate structure to it, a little slow paced, at times, but it keeps it interesting, nonetheless. Heavy riffs, and nice guitar solos. This is kinda everything I look for in music.

  8. D.... W....

Whoa. This hits me between the eyes .There would normally be some lyrical de-cryption process. But I really think "I get it" . THANKS AIC ! One of the baddest bands to EVER do it.

  9. K.... B....

This is the best track Jerry has written since Layne died.

  10. L.... A....

..."and feed my pet black hole"....love it

  11. R.... S....

They still have that ballsy sound even without laynes voice I agree with what someone else said that layne era and Duvall era are two different bands but you gotta have an open mind to it. It’s still Alice In Chains. I think the difference between Duvall is that Duvall doesn’t have as fat of a voice as layne did but he still has a sweet voice in his own right. You can almost here though how much fatter the sound would be with those dirt era layne vocals haha

  12. J.... R....

    Like this song alot!

  13. E.... r....

    Dark and beautiful

  14. I.... R....

That's great. I love aic n I love flying drones lol my two loves, sweet!!!

  15. s.... h....

Jerry will tell no lies wont try and replicate what he had with his buddy yeah you guessed his name.. its amazing how far they continue to progress

  16. S.... D....

Has an Audioslave vibe about the riff.

  17. P.... G....

    Best album since Tripod!

  18. K.... B....

"I'll Stay Here and Feed My Pet Black Hole" Only Jerry Cantrell could write something so Fucking awesome.

  19. R.... G....

The most beautiful nod to the song Lying Season from Dirt demos.
Tempo change, then "...and that's fine".

  20. P.... W....

I got to get this album!

    P.... W....

    me too!! PERIOD!!!

  21. D.... A....

Chris , nice to hear You again We all miss You.

  22. F.... B....

Love hearing Chris DeGarmo on this song.

  23. T.... ....

    Chris DeGarmo \m/.......\m/

  24. R.... A....

Queensryche's Chris Degarmo plays acoustic guitar on this track.

    R.... A....

True... but no one can hear it.

  25. l.... ....

Who in the heck were all the people shitting on this album when it was first released? Saying it was boring?

Everything I've heard so far(The singles, Fly, Red Giant, Drone, Rainier Fog) has been absolutely killer!!

    l.... ....

    Tell me about it!

  26. J.... Z....

Loving Chris DeGarmo playing acoustic in the middle of this song!

  27. J.... L....

Good stuff. This has an eery Lane Staley feel to it.

  28. G.... P....

This song has Mr DeGarmo from Queensryche on it. I was surprised to learn that.

    G.... P....

Yep. I went right off Queensryche when Chris left!

    G.... P....

He already played guitar in Cantrell's Anger Rising on Degradation Trip, it seems they go back a long time.

    G.... P....

Ya I guess DeGarmo is good friends with Jerry.....

    G.... P....

@That_Pushup_Guy Tough Chris was Jerry's guitarist for a while when he toured Degradation Trip

    G.... P....

Thank you for referring to him as MR. DeGarmo is a guitar GOD!!!!

  29. M.... M....

Rare band to lose one like Layne and recover from that devastating loss of his stature. Jerry was the other half of AIC in my opinion and has definitely shown how influential his place was in this band. They picked the right replacement for Layne (R.i.p). Not an easy position to or shoes to fill for damn sure. Nonetheless still my absolute favorite band then and now. Huge Cantrell fan of all his original albums on the solo level. He is a signature guitarist that plays from his heart and soul.No fakery whatso ever. Deep admiration for his genius.

  30. E.... C....

This song is a perfect blend of old AIC, Degradation Trip, and new AIC. Wow, just wow.

  31. T.... 5....

This is Alice in Chains's hardest slowest song they have ever done. It is a rarity to find one hit wonder songs of hardcore nature with a slow pace. In fact I can only think of a couple others I have ever heard, Metallica's Dream no more is one of them. Congradulations Alice in Chains on this wonderful one hit wonder. I only enjoy 3 or 4 songs from your new album, and this is the top one, besides an altered version of Red Giant by some one who slowed the pace and braught out some unertones in it. Alice in Chains is my favorite band, but I have to admit, that each time they have a new album come out, it seems they get softer and softer and have less hardcore songs in their albums. Perhaps it comes with age, but I hope this message reaches them, and they become aware of this issue, in hopes to pick back up the hardcore pace. And as a fan, I hope to speak for the majority, that we would love to hear more hard rock slow paced songs in the future. Thanks Alice in Chains, and keep up the good work! (The new lead singer is better than the old one too, except in them bones!)

  32. D.... F....

And I thought that "Red Giant" was a killer song... My God this is so perfect!! Those voices, riffs, drums, bass... Perfection!!

  33. A.... ....

    Huge...so fuckin' huge!!

    A.... ....

    yaz! Fuckin phenomenal!

  34. E.... B....

I'm really liking the effects and fuzzy distortion on the bass and guitars in this one

  35. T.... P....

Sounds so similar to Feel the Void by Jerry Cantrell

  36. M.... ....

This has a Swing on This feel to it.

  37. A.... x....

    Fucking amazing!

  38. J.... H....

Interesting one. I haven't heard the album yet. I really dig the vocals as always, and I dig the heavy blues thing they're doing.

    J.... H....

You have to listen to the entire album! Can't explain but it is totally off the hook!! I can't stop listening to it and it's 2019. Don't get me wrong, Facelift is the sh**t too.

  39. F.... V....

    absolute killer album !!

  40. K.... Y....

It's a masterpiece ... the songs brings to my mind some stuff deja vu of some differend record of differend bands ...
    0:00 Black sabbath
    0:21 Pantera
    0:44 Soundgarden
    2:44 Days of the new

    K.... Y....

2:44 Day's Of The New is exactly what I thought when I heard it too.

  41. M.... L....

    2:43 and 3:10...my God

  42. M.... L....

Absolutely love this song and the whole album...
The bass <3 and everything else...just perfect, couldn't expect better

  43. B.... B....

It's funny that know one picks up on a bit of QUEENSRYCHE feel to it. I Can definitely hear it. Maybe Chris Degarmo had something to do with that 🤘

    B.... B....

    He did :)

  44. A.... M....

The guitar swells at 1:49 brings me to another world.

  45. m.... l....

I love this song and seriously had it tattooed on my brain when I saw this post

  46. M.... N....

    What a song.

  47. A.... S....

    Loving the bass...Inez!

    A.... S....

Anok Stone as dirty it can get!

  48. B.... 3....

Good song. Red Giant still my favorite.

    B.... 3....

    Love Red Giant

  49. P.... N....

    praise Iommi

  50. B.... J....

Bridge is simillar to cantrell's "soltitude"

  51. M.... P....

I dont know why but this song instantly made me think of Cornelle

  52. M.... P....

Anyone like mad season??the riff reminds me of Artificial Red in some spots

    M.... P....

U can sing the verse in the opening riff

    M.... P....

Yea you can. Smoke poison consumed

    M.... P....

@keep core out of metal. exactly

    M.... P....

Mark Plavecki Note really. Its probably because both use standard slow blues tempo but other than that different tunes.

  53. R.... A....

    tasty bluesy tune

  54. N.... R....

Easily my favorite song on the album. I love this band.

  55. M.... V....

yea I'll stay home and feed my pet black hole absolutely amazing

  56. E.... B....

This has a blues feel to it.

  57. M.... C....

Yeah, one of the most Sabbath-ish AIC songs...love it.

  58. C.... 1....

    Very Soundgarden song!! Like it

    C.... 1....

    and Black Sabbath

    C.... 1....

    this is alice

    C.... 1....

It's just both AIC and Soundgarden have strong Sabbath influences too. That's why some songs sound similar. This AIC song in particular sounds to me like "Damaged Soul" by Sabbath (someone here mentioned it before me).

    C.... 1....

Nah, its very Facelift era AIC

  59. H.... D....

    Oh, lovely!

  60. J.... R....

Cantrell stole my riff I made up from a year ago... well sort of. I'm in standard drop d tuning, while he of course is in half step down. This is a great song BTW. Drone I mean.
    https://youtu.be/8SAoVhxRoX4

  61. D.... ....

    Very "pig-charmer-ish"

  62. J.... R....

This album rolls it back. Like a group newly formed in the beginning of success. A rebirth of the soul

  63. L.... K....

Killer song but they missed a chance to create a sick transition after that solo. Could have been so much better.

    L.... K....

Leighton Kennedy i guess they should have consulted with you first. 🙄

  64. R.... ....

    Perfect <3

  65. T.... L....

“I’ll stay here and feed my pet black hole”

  66. T.... A....

Fuck it... I'll say it!!! This is "Dirt 2.0" Bitches!!!!! their greatest album since Dirt!!!!

  67. D.... B....

Peanut butter and jelly. You can not improve on the absolute best classic. You turned a tragedy, into carrying on one of the best sounds in history. Thank you.

    D.... B....

    Well put, well said

  68. M.... B....

This album is an absolute masterpiece

    M.... B....

It seriously is. It’s easily the best album I’ve heard in the past 5 or so years. This song is ridiculously amazing!

  69. F.... P....

This is by far their strongest album since reforming. And I fucking loved their last 2 albums, so..

    F.... P....

Their last album was way stronger imo.....this is a great album though.

    F.... P....

Agree 100%, best album they’ve done with Duvall. Honestly might be in my top 3...

    F.... P....

This is stronger than TDPDH, it has that old school Facelift sound, with Dirt influence. Now the Duvall era has three albums, matching the original Chains albums excluding bootlegs, EPs. Amazing band, there's a reason they are my favourite band. I really like Duvall's voice. He adds his own nuances, there will never be another Layne. I can't stand AiC "purists" bashing Duvall or the guys continuing. Would you rather they just didn't make any more music? Grow the fuck up all of you.

If you don't like this reformed AiC then don't listen to them.

    Simple as.

    F.... P....

Eoin Byrne the way i see it is, the Staley-era and Duvall-era Chains are two different bands. I dont really like Duvall singing the Staley era stuff but the new stuff absolutely kills. I'd happily go to a Chains show and see an entire gig of stuff from the Duvall era.

    F.... P....

@Propjoe10going next week to see them...I don't like the concert footage of him singing Layne era but will give him a chance when I go...maybe it will be different with a live ear...

  70. J.... V....

    ❤️❤️❤️

  71. B.... C....

There are many pieces of "Laynes spirit"that bleed through the lyrics and riffs....so glad Jerry made decision to forge on..after many lonely years without my drug of choice.....

  72. T.... ....

    love this

  73. W.... ....

    This and Fly are 👌

    W.... ....

And Red Giant...and So Far Under!!

  74. J.... R....

I think this song is about Bees.....

    J.... R....

"Bees!! Oh God not the bees!" -Nick Cage

  75. E.... M....

Oh, this is just so fucking good.

  76. z.... z....

Sounds like a B side to facelift. Good stuff!

    z.... z....

Justin Mays or an A side to everything they've made...

    z.... z....

Justin Mays A side. The Facelift B side went to Circus of Power. Watch Heaven and Hell. Cantrell did the music.

    z.... z....

Billy Bruner III this is what I meant /watch?v=rP0ceER0Wio. The song was released in 1993. Cantrell wrote the music for this and even appears in the video around the 2 minute mark. This onw sounds more like Facelift than the Dirt stuff.

  77. S.... O....

    black sabbathy, i like it

    S.... O....

Reminds me a lot of Damaged Soul, too!

    S.... O....

Saih Oussama That's immediately what I thought when I heard the opening riff! It sounds like something from Black Sabbath's 13 album and that's NOT a bad thing! 🤘

    S.... O....

In case you didn't know Ozzy himself chose their debut album Facelift as his second most favourite album ever

  78. j.... c....

This is the track that Chris Degarmo plays on! Fuck ya!!!

  79. E.... ....

    I'm happy :)

  80. A.... T....

Really dig this one. Its a classic one for me already! ...
