Alice In Chains - A Looking In View Lyrics
Hear foot steps creek the floor
The shadows give away
Someone outside the door
Won't let em in
A run down broke machine
That steals your piece of mind
Before you know it's gone
Lay
Down
Wait
Silence burning on your tongue
Keep us separate, sullen, dumb
Boiling to the surface, something
A looking in view too long on the outside
Desperate plans make sense in a low life
A looking in view too long on the outside
Desperate plans make sense in a low life
These things I hate in you
Also reflect it seems
Distortion laced with spite
Teach you outta me
Lay
Now
Lay
Hiding in the darkness under
Boiling to the surface, something
Crawling on your skin discomfort
Makes you break, run, stumble, fall
A looking in view too long on the outside
Desperate plans make sense in a low life
A looking in view too long on the outside
Desperate plans make sense in a low life
It's why you never tell me (what's on your mind)
It's why you never tell me (what's on your mind)
It's why you never tell me (what's on your mind)
It's why you never tell me (what's on your mind)
A looking in view too long on the outside
Desperate plans make sense in a low life
A looking in view too long on the outside
Desperate plans make sense in a low life
It's why you never tell me (what's on your mind)

Alice In Chains A Looking In View Comments
One of the heaviest riffs ever, kids.
This is what they call a comeback. Nu bullshit, just vintage Alice In Chains. Massive song!
Esto es un terremoto musical ,,,,me gusta
Terrible sound quality. Amazing track.
Well done! Of course we miss Layne but one after the other they have knocked it out of the park.
Not one weak song on album.
Locusts are swarming intro...........
Hell Raiser ? 😟
I love how the music video has referenced the "Man in the Box" & the "Dirt" girl.
This song turned me on...
This is terrible audio quality. The topic version is much better
I'm getting younger Tobey Maguire vibes from the guy in the beginning.
Intro sounds like Mr. Krinkle by Primus
This is my favorite non-Layne AiC song.
This song is so fucking complex
This video is brilliant.
The Greatest comeback album of all time. Its practically impossible for a band to comeback like this after losing their most prized asset. This has everything to do with Cantrell and Co masterful decision to select Duvall vocals to compliment Staleys previous legacy while sitting perfectly together with Cantrells going forward.
Tool is amazing but alice in chains understands song depth and meaning on a deeper melodic level and jerry is a better lead guitarist than adam but I'm not knocking tool in no way these are my two favorite bands
Dumbest music video ever
Boasting about your shallowness and ignorance is nothing to be proud of Eliud Veliz. Tsk Tsk.
i love this song
I wonder why Ben Shapiro is so intent on working on that box.
Awesome music list. I would recommend checking out the Facelift album by AIC. It's obviously most known for man in the box, but that's probably the weakest song on the whole record. Think about that!!!!
Such power within darkness.....wrapped in beauty
The landscape at the end looks like it showed up in the same location, but right after that of "In the End" by Linkin Park.
We do suffocate from air also.
I imagine drowning takes lots of breath.
Where's Layne, sorry, Nevermind.
This would be a great Layne song.
Overcompressed audio 😖
#discountpeterparker
Man in the Box 📦
@SELL TOWER You tell me 😊
One of their best post-Layne songs.
This song along with We Die Young, Them Bones, Rain when I Die, Died, Check my brain, and Love hate love are among AIC's heaviest songs no doubt
I just can't get into William. I wish I could. He has a nice voice and I don't care at all that they've moved on from Layne. His voice is just white bread to me.
Alice in Chains done it again and they made one hell of a comeback. Can't wait to see them in concert this summer.
Dude this kicks so much ass
Lembra um pouco a Man in the Box
If you put Leonardo DiCaprio's face from Whats wrong with Gilbert Grape and my face together, it's this guys in the video.
Happy i stumbled on this gem....anyone jammin' out in 2019 ?
Man. I just like this music and it's music video as well.
Also that girl's fat reflection at 2:54 makes my.... welp... i guess i can't say that. xD
At 1:20 it sounds like he yells "LAYNE!!!"
on this grunge scene man, considering the big 4 and the rest I believe jerry had the strongest instict in all of its mystery, it just doesnt die with him and he just stays loyal to it
One of my favorite song w/out Layne
I want to inject that riff in my veins
this song is the best
atrocious audio quality. should be re-uploaded.
I love AIC...but this song is creepy, haha!
Reminds me of No Association by Silverchair
When your choice for a new singer is so damn good the first time you listened to this song you thought it was a posthumous work.
Is that a sneaky "Dirt" album art easter egg at the end there?
Nhl 2k11 anyone?
Great vid& great song$
This song is so good like the first time I heard it I thought Layne was singing a little bit too
this song is excellent it seems like a nightmare, dark and strange I definitely love Alice in chains is one of my favorite bands
Fuck Yeah!!
How does this not have more views? Can someone explain? This has always been one of their best songs since they made their comeback
be happy that you know what great music is, can appreciate it, and have good taste. Other people just dont, dont understand it, and have to be told what to like.
AQUI É O BRASIL!
It's about child abuse
The whole song is awesome but from 5:51 on it's fucking epic
best band in the world for me the band i wana create music like is aic
I foolishly avoided listening to post-Layne AIC for a long time. Kicking myself for waiting so long to check it out. This song kicks ass. I think it has a little bit of a Deftones vibe.
I did the same thing but atleast I wised up and started to listen to the new stuff!
I use this song to wake me up in the morning sometimes.
I hear a little of Rain When I Die in this
My favorite song by Alice In Chains follow closely by rooster, stone, nutshell, bleed the freak
Savage stuff. Lane I'm sure would approve!
I dont like when people say the song would be better with Layne singing. Who is to say that william didnt add a creative edge to this song in the writing process that Layne wouldnt have.
One of my fave AIC songs.
Opening riff, chills. Whole song, pure power. This gives me life.
Scary tune and you can feel and hear the anger, as well as the sadness, in it... I love it. This one let us all know that they were back when it came out in October, 2009. This whole album is great from start to finish, imho.
NHL 2K11, anyone?
Hear footsteps creak the floor
The shadows give away
Someone outside the door
Won't let 'em in
Life damaged kids to crime
Rundown broke machine
That steals your peace of mind
Before you know it's gone
Lay
Down
Lay
Silence burning
Hold your tongue
Keep a separate
So they'll know
Hiding in the darkness under
Boiling to the surface
Don't go far
A looking in view too long on the outside
Desperate plans make sense in a low life
A looking in view too long on the outside
Desperate plans make sense in a low life
These things I hate in you
Also reflect it seems
Distortion laced with spikes
Digs you out of me
Lay
Down
Lay
Hiding in the darkness under
Boiling to the surface
Crawling on your skin discomfort
Makes you brake and run, stumble, fall
A looking in view too long on the outside
Desperate plans make sense in a low life

If you Love Alice in Chains Check This !!!! Really ! https://youtu.be/9Yhp9jMjyfg
Best song Post Layne, hands down.
Best thing they did since jar of flies.
I get the chills every time DuVall yells "Lay!" because it sounds like he's yelling "Layne!"
HockeyShark It does! I've heard some rumors that this song was about the many times the band tried to reach Layne. They'd knock, call, try to contact him in any way and he wouldn't answer them. Even Duff McKagan tried to reach him.
Totally....this would have been a killer live song with him
@Rotten Apple the lyrics are pretty clear that's exactly what it's about.
I know this is comment is a year old, but they do it again on the title track of this album, and after seeing your comment I'm starting to think maybe that was intended
To me this song is clearly about layne and the fact William sings it like that is no coincidence. Layne is probably his biggest influence as a singer and now he makes music with laynes friends. All very obvious in my opinion.
Such a fantastic band. I feel sorry for the immature people who can't enjoy this because they think AiC died with Layne.
@Jasondurgen sure makes sense
Honestly, Jerry Cantrell remotely sounds very alike like Layne Staley. But while I do agree that it is very immature for people to bash on a band just because their original singer died. This is also happening with Mushroomhead because their original singer Jeffrey Nothing parted ways from the band. I'm surprised no one's slandering Alice in Chains as a "cover band".
Dirt saved my life man, its not immature to miss a guy I admired and related heavily with. I still like this but no, its not the same. It is equally good but not the same because i dont relate to Jerrys issues like I related to laynes. It doesnt mean ill bash it like many do though but ill always miss the way he wrote and sang.
Fernando Pinto but Jerry wrote a ton of their lyrics on the old material and I’m sure you related to his problems on facelift/dirt/tripod.jerry wrote just about an equal amount of the lyrics as Layne but everyone credits them all to Layne, Jerry also wrote the lyrics and the songs in general to the majority of their hits. Layne was a legend and one of the best singers ever but Jerry has always been the driving force and the lead creative force behind AiC, some of the most relatable songs they have were written by Jerry but everyone just credits Layne because he sang them
His soul is still alive there
Cast:
Body Dismorphic Girl - Sacha Senisch
Obsessive Compulsive Boy - Chad Post
Religious Zealot - Devin Zephyr
Heavier Dismorphic Girl - Debbie Fry
Older Dismorphic Girl - Vallean Mann
Young OCD Boy - Dylan Matzke
Thank you!
I was very hesitant to listen to Black Gives Way To Blue and The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here because they didn’t have Layne but I feel Alice In Chains still manages to be a great band even after the loss of their lead singer
I couldn't agree more! I was hesitant to listen to the new stuff but the more I listen the more I like it!!
I love the psychological aspect to this video!
The most powerful comeback in the history of metal/rock
indeed. when this came out i just couldnt find any words to express how impressed and overwhelmed i was when i realized this was the new AIC stuff, and noting this was still the essence of the AIC i fell in love in the fisrt time
@DanQuijote777 same man
Absolutely 100%
I was geeked when this shit came out. Especially impressed with how well the lead singer can evoke Layne while still sounding like a new singer.
Wow. This sounds like Scott Weiland.
this song really made me feel like i was in the grunge time of the '90s. what a pearl....
This song is awesome, but that girl a 6:55 is beyond gorgeous.
Why does this only have 720k views?? This song is so fucking awesome dude. And video is astounding!!
Noah from smosh? 😂
6:52 reminds me of the dirt album cover
amazing lyrics, amazing riffs, amazing drums......this song never ceases from mind....
this song is awesome
MARAVILHOSA BANDA,LEGAL PRA CACETE. AMO ALICE IN CHAINS.BRASIL.
OMG, I NEVER heard of this song b4!! Rip beautiful 👼 LAYNE
Could you imagine this with Layne???????? My God!!!!
Not the same without Layne
Laynes the king but chains still kick alot of ass.
Stickman Football 10
William has no feeling or passion in what he sings. Staley brought feeling and emotion to his voice and songs.. Tell me if I'm wrong.
Frank alarcon you’re wrong :D
That damn closed door....:(
This is a great song by them.
How long was that poor girl underwater, lol.
3:16 laaaaaynnne
