Alice Cooper - Sing Low, Sweet Cheerio Lyrics

Forget remember nothing the force came from the flame
I pass along the path inside my light shinning always
We'll get there first a name cried out then looked back all the way
Recall falling down a lot of time was spent that way
But this story staring me had already begun
'cuz I had some vision in my sight on the journey to be one
Help me help please help me please the screaming starts again
But the trick I find something hid you look you find I win
While working while the play was on the play was alright then
Think thoughst big thoughts take off and go back again next week
Right then my story ended and a new one had begun
'cuz I had some vision in my sight on the journey to be one

Wonderful album, one of the best I remember hearing growing up in the 70's, they were even better than Hawkwind at this time.

The legendary Michael Bruce sings leads alternating with Alice on this song from the group Alice Cooper's first album, "Pretties For You," released 25 June 1969.

    Michael Bruce:
    Forget, remember nothing, please
The voice came from the flame
I pass along the path inside
    My light shining always
We'll get there first a name cried out
And looked back on the way
Recalling falling down a lot of time was spent that way
🎶 Michael and Alice harmonize 🎶
But this story starring me had already begun
'Cause I had some vision in my sight
On the journey to be one
    🎶 Alice:
Help me, help please, help me please
    The screaming starts again
The trick I find something hid
You look, you'll find out when
While working while the play was on
The play was on right then
    Think thoughts, big thoughts
Take off and go home, back next week again
🎶 Alice and Michael harmonize 🎶
    Right then my story ended
And a new one had begun
'Cause I had some vision in my sight
On the journey to be one

Wish I hadn't thrown out my ancient LP collection many years ago so I could verify your spelling, but yes, I'm quite sure you're correct. I've seen it spelled a hundred different stupid ways online. (Hell, CHERRIO? Jesus! Coming from Warner Brothers no less. Shit, you're the record company, don't you guys have a copy of the album laying around?)

  14. N.... G....

This one is my favourite, besides the ones that get played i have every alice's albums never opened. In 200 years someone is gonna go ALICE!!!!

  15. W.... B....

I used to own this. I still don't know what it sounds like. I've made better-sounding recordings on a portable mono cassette recorder.

    W.... B....

They really had no help from any producers or mixers while creating this album. What you hear on the record was their demo recordings in the studio. Zappa is credited as a producers, but didn't spend 5 minutes on the album.

    Kurt Slotkowski clever😉

  17. K.... S....

Not even Bob Dylan could play the harmonica as good as Vince. Just listen about near midway through this track! These guys demonstrated talent very early on in their song writing career!

    K.... S....

Being a better harmonica player than Bob Dylan is like being a better sprinter than William Conrad. Dylan is a fantastic songwriter but his harmonica sounds like it was stuck in the lips of a passed-out drunk to quiet the snoring.

    K.... S....

Playing harmonica and guitar at the same time is a recipe for crap whether it's Bob or Neil. I used to love the John Wesley Hardin album and years later that screeching freaking harmonica ruins it and basically ruins Dylan (along with his voice(?)) for me.

  18. B.... R....

My favorite Alice Cooper album, followed by Easy Action.

  19. s.... i....

Pretties along with Easy Action I feel were transitional lp's in the history of rock music. The Alice Cooper band had one foot in the 60's and it shows with a slightly Beatles ,Beach Boys sound and one foot in the 70's shown in the edgy sound and topic matter. Very ahead of their time or out of their mind these lp's are brilliant. There is a fine line between eccentric and lunatic and the boys waltzed between the two masterfully. They had not yet to quote Alice ( Vince ) driven the dagger in the heart of the peace and love movement yet, that was to come on Love It To Death. Thanks for the upload it's historical and I love it.

I think that a lot of that edge that felt very rebellious and angry in the 70's was even subverted from the beginning by Alice Cooper band; reaching into more solemn and sombre themes. As much as the concepts of the band all the way through the 70's was a roil of mania and depression, a depressive bipolar's dream band, the arrangements that can somehow convey the stress of the lyrics (and I mean anxious stress) through persistent riffs with few moments for rest and sustanation, it felt a lot like certain jazz artists experimenting in the 60's.
I feel like as the band grew more relaxed in their role as professional recording artists, that reflected in some of the tamer songs and ballads.
Truly, an underrated group if there ever was one.

  20. D.... ....

Please note that the title of the song as it appears on the album is "Sing Low..." not "Swing Low..."

    D.... ....

huh. didn't notice that until you mentioned it.

    D.... ....

You'd think The Official Alice Cooper would get it. Or at least fix it within two years of someone pointing it out.

    D.... ....

Since you are so concerned, why not also mention that it is "cherrio", not "chariot".

  21. L.... F....

    so awesome

  22. M.... ....

Avant garde rock never caught on, except in very watered down, commercially accessible variants. You may hear a little Velvet Underground on the radio now and then, but never their more avant grade tunes. I don't even listen to this more than every decade or so. I appreciate what they were doing, but it's exactly enjoyable listening to me. Glad it uploaded so I can listen now and then.

  23. C.... M....

Nobody really appreciates his first 2 albums.

    C.... M....

    Are you sure?

    C.... M....

They have their appreciators and always have. They've always just been two of his more CULTISH albums. They were never mainstream and weren't really meant to be in the first place. They have a SPECIAL place in AC's legacy. They're like buried treasures or bonuses for more FAITHFUL DIE HARD and ARRANT A.C. fans who want to dig deeper into their/his repertoire. And it's pretty much the same thing with Alice's early 80's era albums too. It's very much A.C. in their underground and experimental GESTATIONAL stage.

    C.... M....

Pretties For You is my favorite Alice Cooper album. The songwriting is so intricate that Frank Zappa (who signed them to his Straight label) said that The Mothers was a pretty tight outfit but even they couldn't have played the complicated arrangements that Cooper did.

    C.... M....

ALMOST nobody - they were ignored by the commercial classic rock stations that sprung up in the '80s. A DJ on the Boston branch, WZLX, once even came right out and CALLED 'Love it to Death' their first.

    C.... M....

@00RockyAngel00 ...I dare saying...it's a forbidden masterpiece !...Forbidden to those who did not deserve it !...Mindlessly, I was one !...But not anymore !
