Alice Cooper - Former Lee Warmer Lyrics

In an upstairs room, under lock and key
It's my brother, Former Lee
All the mops and brooms keep him company
Misconceived of the family

Former Lee Warmer pulls up the covers to hide in his wrinkled bed
No dreams go in, no dreams go out of the hole in his wrinkled head

Former Lee Warmer
When I hear him play in his twisted key
That's the way he calls to me
On a silver tray, I keep the master key
In every way, he depends on me

Former Lee Warmer, an old smoking jacket - holes in his satin sleeves
Candle lit puddles, arthritic fingers, yellow stained ivory keys

In an upstairs room under lock and key
It's my brother, Former Lee
And after all these years, I've never heard him speak
I wonder what he thinks of me

Former Lee Warmer peeks out the window
When he feels really brave
Former Lee Warmer waves at his father
Out in the family grave

He's flesh and blood to me
I love him brotherly
But, I don't want to be Former Lee

Alice Cooper Former Lee Warmer Comments

Heard some cool new music. Sounds like classic rock. Band is GLITTER DOGS.
    https://youtu.be/5qo3JoSZ0OQ
3 solid albums on Spotify. Enjoy!

  2. A.... S....

this song gives me the creep, coopers lyrics are simply incredible..

  3. B.... K....

This is one of my top 5 Alice albums. I'd love to hear it with more organic sounds. Even real drums would be great.

  4. A.... A....

I thought this song was about a retarded family member who was in a car accident and killed his mother and now it's years later and now the protagonist must look after his damaged brother, for his father has passed away too.

But no apparently it's coke addiction.

  5. J.... :....

    Dada, is a masterpiece

  6. T.... ....

Flush the fashion special forces zipper catches skin and dada were Alices forgotten albums he said he cant remember writing the songs for them because of his Alcoholism...what a genius to write some truly epic songs that if played today are still awesome.

  7. S.... F....

a brilliant songwriter to put horror to music, well done alice

  8. O.... L....

    Formerly warmer?

  9. S.... C....

Dada and Special Forces me and a buddy got into in High School 1986 to 89...

  10. S.... C....

some of his best and craziest work , brings me back to the first time I ever heard Alice , so many years ago . This man is so under rated by the industry

    S.... C....

    Hardly underrated.

  11. S.... F....

    Love this song!!! Sooo good!!!

  12. J.... H....

    Master Piece.

  13. M.... R....

Surely some self reflection by Alice, inspired by his several year addiction to free basing cocaine (approximately 1979-1983). He felt pressured to keep up with the younger, more aggressive punk rock movement, so he started doing piles of coke and recording punk and new wave. Flush The Fashion, Special Forces, and Zipper Catches Skin is also known as the blackout trilogy. Alice has little recollection of this period, thanks to his cocaine and alcohol fueled attempt to remake Alice as darker, meaner, faster, more dangerous, and more creepy. I definitely think cocaine smoke Alice was the scariest Alice.

    M.... R....

Mark Rago: Suuure. Because, you know, songs like I Love The Dead, Cold Ethyl, Only Women Bleed, etc etc etc weren't 'dark' or 'creepy' or 'scary' AT FUCKING ALL. Were they? Are you retarded?

  14. L.... L....

formerly warmer. in other words deceased. thought it was a classic cooper play on words scenario. but not totally sure

    L.... L....

I heard an interview with Dick Wagner (the guitarist and co writer of many of the tunes on this album) and he mentioned that it was also a "play on words" relating to the fact that this was the final contractual album Alice did for the Warner brothers label, hence "formerly Warmer", or Warner...

  15. s.... ....

    Sounds like Dany Elfman

  16. L.... J....

I wish I could stop doing cocaine. I'm glad Mr Cooper did. I keep a razor blade and a fat straw on my silver tray, oh and a pile of blow. I can't sleep or stay awake.

    L.... J....

I prefer crystal meth. More bang for the buck. 100 bucks keeps me awake and tweaked for 3 days. I use to blow through 100 of coke in a night of partying and was hating life by sunrise.

  17. L.... S....

This might be the creepiest song I've ever heard.

  18. D.... A....

dada is a great album, really underrated i think.

  19. m.... g....

Could be fave tune on a superb album. Good to hear again after so many years.

  20. B.... B....

    Cool song

  21. m.... c....

Ranks up there with Coops creepiest songs like dead Babies, Dwight, black Juju etc

  22. L.... C....

Thank you Mate, It is a Masterpiece.

  23. M.... R....

On a silver tray, he keeps his master key. Cocaine...

  24. j.... p....

At the end of this song, is it, "I don't want to be family" or is it, "I don't want to be Former Lee"??

    j.... p....

john paul "I don't want to be Former Lee"

  25. M.... B....

I feel like this is one of those songs that only an alcoholic/addict can truly appreciate.

  26. s.... u....

alice made some weird shit in his blackout era. Cool stuff though

    s.... u....

    He was sober by this!

    s.... u....

Marc McCourt No he wasn't. Got clean right after the album was released.

    s.... u....

@Damon Willis He was freebasing during this

  27. E.... A....

The lyrics are crazy good on this album. I didn't like it at first but I couldn't forget it. Now I'm listening to it again. It's like Cure meets Syd Barrett

  28. g.... ....

    Alice is the coolest!

  29. B.... h....

love this whole album! Alice cooper rule's

  30. a.... o....

Alice said on his show that he thought this was the creepiest song he'd ever written

    a.... o....

"Gail" is way creepier IMO, and so is the Steven trilogy from WTMN.

    a.... o....

This one is pretty creepy, but I think the title track has it beat.Try listening to it late at night and see if it don't give you a few goosebumps. It's happened to me before lol.

    a.... o....

Vicious Rumors is pretty unsettling too

  31. O.... P....

This song and album was explained to me as "Alice Cooper doing a EC comics Story"
    Scary and cool!

    O.... P....

That is a great! The lyrics and music definitely give that feel.

    O.... P....

It's actually somewhat autobiographical. Its about Alice's struggle with cocaine.

    O.... P....

@Mark Rago It's also a subtle goodbye to Warner bros'..

  32. S.... ....

I''ve heard this lots upon lots of times.. even back when it was originally out, but @DecibelGeeks sent me here to listen to this song with new ears :)

  33. J.... ....

I love this whole album. I tried to buy it years ago only to find out it was out of print. As far as I know it still is. Super glad to find it on the tubes!

    J.... ....

    +JestaKilla its on amazon

    J.... ....

It is not out of print. It was for a while in the U.S. but has been back in print for a number of years. You can get it on Amazon.

    J.... ....

Yeah it's available, I bought the cd last year from a record store. A criminally underrated masterpiece. I love the concept too. Sonny, Former Lee and especially Dada (Sonny's father) are very disturbing characters. I think only Dyslexia and I Love America aren't related to the story. Also, Dick Wagner is an amazing guitarist!

  34. W.... S....

    Yes it is

  35. D.... ....

no comments? wtf, this is a masterpiece
