Alice Cooper - Desperado (Live) Lyrics

[From "Killer" Album (1971)]

I'm a gambler and I'm a runner but you knew that when you laid down
I'm a picture of ugly stories I'm a killer and I'm a clown
Step into the street by sundown step into your last goodbye
You're a target just by living twenty dollars will make you die
I wear lace and I wear black leather my hands are lightning upon my gun
My shots are clean and my my shots are final my shots are deadly and when it's done
You're as stiff as my smoking barrel you're as dead as a desert night
You're a notch and I'm a legend you're at peace and I must hide
Tell me where the hell I'm going let my bones fall in the dust
Can't you hear that ghost that's calling as my colt begins to rust in the dust
I'm a killer I'm a clown I'm a priest that's gone to town

    My shots🤔are deadly🤔!!!!

  37. ottowes

Unless I'm mistaken, this tune was about Alice Cooper, the spirit that was accidently contacted via a Ouija board session, and of course, the inspiration for the name of the band. Hence, the ending lyrics, "I'm a killer/and I'm a clown/I'm a priestess/Going to town."

  38. Richard Guay

    Love this!

  70. terrypussypower

It's amazing to hear Alice in better voice now than he was back in the 70's! You only need to check out the live stuff on YT and Alice's vocals left a lot to be desired back then! Mostly due to his gargantuan drug and drink intake no doubt!

  71. Scott Oswald

    he's still great! .

  72. Scott Oswald

remember..Alice Cooper has lyrics going all different way!!!

  73. Obscene Vegetable Matter

I actually went to see the Thrashes Tour in sweden in 1989. Now i upload weird vocaloid mashups on youtube. The significance of this eludes me. Also, i'm sleepy.

    Dylan Hughes

best comment 20/10, still have no idea what it means

  74. William Cox

    Archetypal Rock.

The best music touches the cultural race mind-or exceeds it. Here, in the USA, the imagery in this song is shared in our dreams, nightmares, and the fragmented memories from childhood spent watching western movies and television shows.

  75. 47tooter

Seen him 12 years ago and it was maybe the best concert I seen live .

  76. Scott Oswald

    thieeer!-great!!!

  77. Mark Cox

Anyone know what tour this was (year?) and who was on lead guitar?

    Mark Cox

@***** you rock man! Never thought anyone else would care - hah!

    Ghost Five

Alright Jim Morrison lol ~ Roadhouse Blues

    Nicholas

alice wrote this song about jim

    Ghost Five

+Nicholas Moses really? No fuckin way! xD I didn't know that! I just checked in my Cd booklet thing and it says "Desperado - A lot of our songs were movie- and TV- oriented. Robert Vaughn played the gunslinger in The Magnificent Seven, who did indeed wear leather and lace. I intentionally did the vocals and lyrics as a tribute to Jim Morrison. Jim was a drinking buddy and an early supporter of the band who really meant a lot to us." (A.C.) that is so awesome, I'm a huge Doors and Alice Cooper fan...don't know how I didn't know that...fuck, blew my mind, no wonder why I like this song so much! Thanks m8

    Nicholas

glad i can share some knowledge... and good taste man

Last of the true Heavy Metal Gods.

    Buck Wild

No,he is “The MASTER” of Shock rock” and theatrical of rock n roll shows, and every song he sings make a lot of sense and he lived a lot of them and wrote these songs of his own experience’s he’s also been through.Alice Cooper is The absolute best!!!

  89. OldSchoolR&R

You could just imagine how cool a rock video this song would have been with Alice playing the killer. Dude was way ahead of his time. This is a one of his classic songs.

    Rabinoperra

you could imagine how cool alice cooper would have with actual music videos in every album.

  90. Fernando Fiuza

    The microphone in 1:48 ...

    Ken Morrison

He's some kind of Sorcerer... I've heard of time jumps, but not mic jumps!

    PatrickSheridanVideo

Heh heh, good catch Fernando! Goes to show that even "live" performances are edited together from different takes.

  91. Ylva 0,0

    My new favorite song!

  92. lastdaysguitar

In this song Alice opens with a Lou Reed vocal sound that is better than ANYTHING Lou Reed ever did... and then of course he only skyrockets from there.  Alice rocks, we are not worthy.

    DrunkNikolai666

lastdaysguitar He's actually trying to imitate Jim Morrison in the beginning. Jim just died, and this song was dedicated to him.

    Tommy Bare

It's a little bit like Iggy Pop

  93. kustom68jcg

  96. mike Jennings

Morrison, ... I used to go there late at night, red rocks Colo. With fire ball
    Deep purple.

  97. Moondog

I first heard this when I was in my Morrison is God phase. I said who is this? Trying an awful lot to sound like Morrison. I was told Alice wrote this as a tribute of sorts as they were known to toss back a few in earlier days. On the LP he sounds even more like Morrison. And there are the references to leather. Who really knows?

    Richard Sorgman

Heard i wear lace and i wear black leather was, from magnificent 7 Robert Vaughn
