Alice Cooper - Big Apple Dreamin' (Hippo) Lyrics

We're so young and pretty
We're so young and clean
So many things
That we have never seen
...from Ohio (let's move from Ohio)
Sell this damn old store
Big Apple dreamin
On a wooden floor

*
Skyscrapers
And subways and stations
Starin' up
At the United Nations

**
New York is waiting
For you and me, baby
Waiting to swallow us down
New York, we're coming
To see what you're made of
Are you as great as you sound

Heard about them massages
And all those dirty shows
Well, I read somewhere
Some places never close
While we waste time on yokels
Comin' through the door
Big Apple dreamin'
On a wooden floor

(* **)

***
New York is waiting
For you and me, baby
Waiting to swallow us down
New York, we're coming
To see what you're made of
Are you as tough as you sound

(***)

Yeah, New York is waitin', baby
Waitin' to swallow us down
New York, we're coming
To see what you're made of
Can't be as tough as you sound

(**)

Oh, New York
Oh New York, we're comin'
Oh we're comin'
To see what you're made of
Oh can't be as good as you sound
Me and my baby, we're comin'
Oh we're comin'
They're waitin' for you and me, baby...

    Innit Steve Hunter...?

    M.... ....

Nope. You're thinking Welcome to my Nightmare.

  2. D.... D....

This music is like fine wine... todays music is like used beer.

    D.... D....

    stale beer & cigarettes

  3. H.... M....

    I fckn love that song!

  4. P.... M....

I agree with most below -as a teenager this was by far their best album - amazing to see people still relating to it all these years later. Band was tight and talented and Cooper's voice so vastly underrated. But the drums and bass - brilliant.

  5. R.... B....

    GREAT fade!!!!

  6. G.... L....

This is MAGA COUNTRY music it just makes you want to grab a pussy unless you're a soy boy then you'll grab a cock lol

  7. v.... D....

The short violin song heard at the end of this song (album released in November 1973) is also heard as a leit-motif on the song “Morgenspaziergang” (Morning Walk) on Kraftwerk's “Autobahn” album, recorded on November 1974. Would it be plagiarism, did you both quote from another song, apparently classical music?

Staring up at the United nations

  10. B.... M....

Almost all guitars are played by Dick Wagner & Not Glen Buxton~!

  11. G.... B....

This could totally be a Clutch tune..

  12. T.... W....

    Their best album!

  13. C.... D....

A definite blast from the past

  14. D.... M....

I love this song. I am going to see Alice down at the Beau Rivage in Nov. If he doesn't play this one...

  15. A.... ....

I've always been a huge fan of the original, classic line-up, but was disappointed with this one. The first two songs are good but in my opinion, the rest is not quite up to par with the hard, cutting-edge material which made them famous.

  16. J.... L....

I bought this album when it came out - cardboard cover and all.

  17. M.... M....

I love Love it to Death the best, but this song is the best one on this album.

  18. M.... S....

    Super Song, super Track!

  22. i.... ....

Used to have this album back in High School back in the 70s.

  23. S.... R....

All of this older AC stuff is so original and different. Nothing even compares to it today.

  24. D.... C....

    Great songs still today

  25. C.... W....

To my uneducated ear it sounds better now than in 1974.Plus it brings back happy memories of being 16!

  29. T.... W....

    Their best album.

Favorite Alice Cooper album of all time. I still have my copy signed by all five original members, yes, even GB.

I remember hearing this for the first time. I didn't know The Big Apple was a nickname for NYC.

    B.... J....

you cant be as tuff as ya sound...

  39. K.... S....

That guitar hook... So easy to master yet so groovy.

  40. S.... C....

    Love you Alice

  41. D.... B....

The guitar technic in the leads are incredible, pull-offs, hammer-ons and slurs, called embellishments, I don't believe was it Glen Buxton tho, he was almost a veggie at time, I think it was Rick Mashburn.

    D.... B....

    dick Wagner from"the frost"

  42. D.... B....

To Cooper Minion, it came in a cardboard box type album jacket, I still have it. Schools Out at first came with a pair of panties over the album jacket but it was soon done away with, I have that as well.

  43. K.... O....

    Great song. Big Apple dreamin.

  44. J.... N....

.........this whole album is nothing short of a masterpiece............'sky scrapers, subways and stations....staring up at the united nation/nations'...?'...Alice/the band....this album like some others affected me, changed me musically...opened the door to the type of music I had really not known (Kinda' weird huh)? My 'kiddie' Donnie and Marie Osmond double live album went straight to the garbage and a little rocker was formed. I started to play guitar at fifteen. At 55 now when I listen to this album it still brings that feeling from back in the day..."very interesting". (well to me anyway). "Thanks Alice...I owe you!" Not even sure why I posted this...?....just wanted to share my little silly story...heh. Peace to ALL around the globe....from me in Michigan. \,,/

    I HEAR YA...

  45. D.... H....

ALICE COOPER FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!! I guess Trump got the helm for now. What a joke.

    D.... H....

Dill Hole agree. Trump is by far the most incompetent pres in the history of the US. I was actually hoping that when the election results came in last year that someone would announce a completely unknown candidate

    D.... H....

Cooper Minion definitely a child’s opinion

    D.... H....

Cooper Minion Yeah Trump vs Hillary is like shit vs vomit, we lose either way...

    D.... H....

Dill hole. Sometime you get what you deserve. This country is on its way down the sewer. The youth today are brainwashed and dummed-down. Good luck USA. May God have mercy on us.

    D.... H....

K Pete closely followed by us in the UK!

  46. E.... W....

what does 'Hippo' mean here? does anybody know?....and Dick Wagner is on this record too, from Lou Reed's band....what does Mr Trudnik play?...he was like the dean of boys....and on the inside sleeve- there was all the guys dressed up like sailors with hands full of cash, into the whore house, and you turned it over and they were all being thrown out all beat up and taken to 'The Brig'

    E.... W....

Ed White hippo was the establishment cops, like Steppenwolf Hippo Stomp, I think.

  47. R.... H....

One of my top ten albums ever. And I am 56.

    R.... H....

i thought my album was the only one with the cardboard stain at the bottom ha ha

  48. R.... V....

Heard 'bout those massages - and all those dirty shows...

    R.... V....

.......iv'e read somewhere some places never close. (masterpiece).

    R.... V....

Well I hear some places never close

    R.... V....

And I read somewhere, some places....

    R.... V....

    Brilliant alice

  49. b.... ....

I am an Alice diehard but this was one of my least favorite Alice albums. Though I will say as much as I love the original band, I actually prefer solo Alice even more. This is a great song though.

    b.... ....

I have a right to enjoy what I like. Own every Alice album ever made, seen him live tons of time, etc. I prefer the solo stuff and I have that right just as you have a right to like what you like.

    b.... ....

you are right, and im sorry....i made a joke in poor taste....please forgive me....i deleted it.....

    b.... ....

No worries. Thanks for your reply.

  51. B.... S....

My FAV Alice album of all times. Hands down.

  52. C.... C....

The only Alice album I ever bought back then. No big hits but plenty of good tunes.

  53. K.... M....

I have the original cassette from 1974...

  54. i.... 0....

I used to play this album on my sister's portable turntable with a penny taped to the armature to keep the needle down

    i.... 0....

I had to use a nickel

    i.... 0....

I used a nickle! Love the Coop!

    i.... 0....

Only a special album would have songs that sound like they were intended to be played in such a manner, the armature counterweight kept balance with any penny. Muscle of Blood is one of them.

  55. A.... Y....

Still have my cardboard album cover of this. The big dollar bill from BDB and the panties from School's Out.

    A.... Y....

they really gave you your moneys worth....

    A.... Y....

if you got the panties from the schools out lp along w/the actual lp and cover in good condition...you're sitting on one thousand dollars via ebay...prolly more if the lp and cover are pristine. Look it up and good luck. :)

    A.... Y....

Did _Muscle of Love_ have an inflatable heart inside?

  56. S.... W....

Good solid rock tune; the entire album is another great album by AC in the 70’s.

  57. M.... S....

From a great album which was the last by the original line-up of Alice Cooper (that was actually the band's name)..glad to know that the old band is finally recording again minus Glen Buxton, R.I.P)~

    M.... S....

    not quite the original lineup

  58. B.... S....

This has always been my favroite Cooper album. Call it because I was 16-17 when it came out. Maybe the same reason why my favorite DP album is Stormbringer... Regardless some good smoke, lights turned down real low, this ablum on a good system and nothing is better in life at that moment anyway!

    B.... S....

Bob Stinson Alice is going to be touring with Purple this year. I'm considering checking it out

    B.... S....

    I was 15 \1974

  59. C.... M....

I never got this album but I've heard rumors that it contained either a big sticker of a "muscle of love" or a blow-up "muscle of love." anyone know if there's any truth to the rumors?

    C.... M....

and schools out unfolded into a little desk...it was brilliant....and KILLER had a calender for 1972 with a real sick picture of Alice hanging from a noose.

    C.... M....

schools out also folded out to a public school desk ...
    @Rydax

    C.... M....

No, but it did have a book cover

    C.... M....

@Fran Zafuto panties from schools out

    C.... M....

@TheNightmare75II I've got an original Pretties For You that alice was nice enough to sign for me.

  60. D.... W....

I saw Alice 4 times in the mid 70's and then again 81(?) for "Flush the Fashion Tour".
Glad he made it out of those days alive...... as most of us are.

  61. W.... Q....

Crazy underrated AC track. Might be my favorite by the original group.

    W.... Q....

Yes totally underrated/ overlooked. One of my faves as well.

    W.... Q....

At this point, you'd be surprised how much of the "original group" is not on this album.

    W.... Q....

I had always thought it one of his best. ( I lost track of the Coop when he lost his band ) circa post Snoop Sisters...

    W.... Q....

@ButThatsShacksTrain True. They had ghost players since about "Killer", but this album probably has almost no Glen Buxton on it. I hear Wagner and Hunter all over this.

  62. S.... S....

I don't know why this album wasn't appreciated more. Working Up a Sweat, Never Been Sold Before and more.

    S.... S....

Badass song, whole album is kicking, every song can't be a hit but that doesn't mean it isn't a rockin tune.

  63. r.... n....

my fave coop group song. best lead guitar riffs i've heard.

  64. B.... B....

The first time I heard this album in February 1974 was during a "bad" acid trip because I took three hits of white blotter which was enough for 6 people and it was the very first time that I took acid! This song, for me,stands out as the best one on the album because of the exquisite guitar playing ,rhythm, percussion and vocals with that nice touch of violin and that voice at the end. Of course, I also very much like the solid rock track Never Been Sold Before. I had,by this time, been into Alice Cooper band since their Easy Action album which was the first Cooper that I owned ("If you don't like what I say you can always turn me off.") . I was not overly fond of the Easy Action album but the Love It To Death album BLEW MY MIND without any illicit substances because it was awesome!

    B.... B....

At 60 something, Still wondering how our brains survived the 70s

    @Brian Bingham 18th

    B.... B....

Three hits of white blotter... Love It To Death!!!! My blotter days were during the LITD and Killer albums. I think Pretties for You was better than Easy Action. Also listened to Led Zep, Sabbath, Who on acid along with Trower, Floyd,Mahogany Rush,Heep... oh the list is endless.... I long for those days and so wish I was back in those days.

  65. o.... ....

Cool track... better then the hit songs on the album...
