If I'm not mistaken he started out as the bass player.. Dude has skills for days.

One simple thing. It's a plain riff, not a solo.

When you play the same songs for a long time doing stuff like that becomes pretty easy with songs you know how to play without thinking about it.

Your voice suffers when you are concentrating on playing lead on the keytar at the same time as singing a melody, the fact he even pulls that off is amazing.

You are missing a few things, the concept "pirate metal" (which i dont like, is just metal with lyrics about pirates) is not only about being silly, the term pirates is not just about drinking and pillaging but about freedom, no need for silly music (not only for the lyrics, i dont care, but the music itself) running wild is different, something close to this happened to viking metal 

just check running wild and bathory's blood and ice (which is where the viking metal thing started) and you'll see that is not just about being silly, still, im looking forward to the new alestorm DVD :)
