Albarn, Damon - Apple Carts Lyrics

Pour the apple carts up from silvery hill
Pour the apple carts up from silvery hill
Higher into heaven, revealed on the adult dome
Respond to great authority singing alleluia, alleluia

Love does reign in the kingdom of the broken heart
The black bird sings, the moon, it starts, war begins, dawns

Now burn the apple carts
They were meant to look great
Fire making to grow in the space
There beneath the stones recharge

From great austerity turning lovers tonight
Silver and white are disdained
In the kingdom of the broken heart
The black bird sings, the sun
It starts, war begins, dawns

  1. Pure Competizione

    That flute is chilling

  2. Debomba

This sounds like a song that would play in the end credits of a movie

  3. Strange Imagination

What is this song about?? “Burn the Apple carts” but they just pulled them onto a hill. Effort wasted. Is it about books being burnt in WWII?
“Pass the barley out into prevailing winds
Where it lands, the blackbird will sing”
What is the blackbird? An omen of death? Destruction?
The barley means what? Rebirth? Beer?

    Wild Wolf

The apples are knowledge and the carts are being ascended up to the hill where the sun is for great reveal of knowledge (Knowledge progressively adding up and stacking) which should trigger a Renaissance by the authority of the king. But like all eras it comes to an end and comes the burning of knowledge as signaled by the descending of notes after the apple carts have reached the hill. The reason the moon and the sun laugh is because they are constants that are in full view of us humans who toil in our short lives.

It's synonymous to the man rolling a stone up a hill only for it to roll down the other side. It's the rise and fall of knowledge through the ages.

    Wild Wolf Holy crap. Thanks

  4. belehdalyd

This song reminds of waking at like 6 in the morning as a kid and watching cartoons while my family sleeps. The amount of air on this song capitalized by the beautiful natural instruments just gave me this feeling that can't be redefined

  5. 2D's blue-ty shorts

An extremely underated song from Damon tbh. It's absolutely beautiful.

  6. Diane Barbosa

Me sinto um merda quando a ouco.

  7. notorious_lil_pugg

around the end of the song, it just feels like a moment where the main character or hero of the media you are viewing is on the brink of death, saying their goodbyes to their world, and biting the bullet.

When TellTale releases their fourth installment of The Walking Dead Video game, they should have this as one of the end credits songs.

Yo i never thought that, that would’ve been an amazing song to include in TWD Season Four, definitely would’ve fitted in pretty nicely

    Full lyrics:

    Pull the apple carts
Up from silvery hill
Higher until heaven revealed
On the addled dawn, respawn
    To great authority
Singing hallelujah hallelujah
Love does reign
In the kingdom of the broken heart
The blackbird sings
And the moon it laughs
As war begins, dance

Now burn the apple carts
Burn them until a great fire begins
To glow in the sky
There beneath the stones, recharge
From great austerity
Raining down from above
Distant is love
Our disdain
In the kingdom of the broken heart
A blackbird sings
And the sun it laughs
As war begins, dance

Pull the apple carts high up on the hill
Set the cores alight
A sea of loss is real
Pass the barley into prevailing winds
Where it lands and grows
The blackbird will sing

martín Tejeda it's a separate thing, but I heard it was originally supposed to be on Plastic Beach. Don't know if it's true or not it's just what I heard

    martín Tejeda

    Nick Henrich thanks too!!

    DotFab

Well it was on the unofficial B-Sides of Plastic Beach (it's called Sea-Sides, if you're interested), so maybe it's actually true

Certas coisas são melhores sendo mantidas como um mistério, não acha?
Se não perde toda a magia de inocentemente ouvir

lol i think so too! he doesn't do much calm stuff, and when he does who can forget it!

  14. Adam Tackes

jbvinny1993, we might just be best friends lol. Albarn's a great artist, I find that his calm style and imagery is rare.
