Alanis Morissette - Will You Be My Girlfriend? Lyrics

I didn't know how to ask unawkwardly.
I didn't know how to approach it.
I haven't known how to do this informally
Not cut out for dropping masks

I guess I give, and you give back.
Is that right?
Guess I listen and you feedback
Is that right
I guess I call when I need help
Is that right?
Will You be my girlfriend?

I haven't worn my heart on sleeves and been rewarded
with an open heartedness
I haven't felt I had the right to be supported
with a golden tenderness

I guess I risk and you risk back
is that right?
I guess I share and you share back
Is that right?
Guess I uplift you when you crack
Is that right?
Will You be my girlfriend?

Can I lean on your shoulder?
Will you join me in some pact?
Will you see me as your sister?
Can we love enough to offer that?

I guess I thought that you would laugh and be daunted
And think me clingy and too much
I thought this much too vulnerable, and you'd not cut
me slack
And think me intolerable

I guess I fall and you stay intact
Is that right?
I guess you hear me and won't attack me
Is that right?
Guess I reach out and you reach back
Is that right?
Will you be my girlfriend?

Guess I divulge and you wink back
Is that right?
Guess you cry, I pat your back
Is that right?
I guess I text and you text back
Is that right?
Will you be my girlfriend?
Is that right?
Will you be my girlfriend?

its like self perpetuating.. ya or no? is that how it is? i mean if u get stuck on that part how we gonna get to all the other albums?

  3. E.... S....

I wish this would have landed on the album and not as a bonus but as we REAL Alanis fans know, her extreme best tracks are usually the bonus tracks or the b sides that land only on singles

Most of these comments are so shallow. This is a beautiful song. Period. Who cares if it is about the single girlfriend Alanis had or her best friend. True Alanis fans and most human beings don't care if it is a gay thing anyway. You all need to recognize that it's ok. It's just a song. A brilliant beautiful song. Coming from a longtime Alanis fan and lesbian, this song just confirms how awesome Alanis is and will always be. Just enjoy her brilliance.

  8. S.... H....

ASking a girl to be your very best friend, like when you were in school. That doesn't happen anymore. I think this song is just about that.

  9. M.... L....

this is perfect for how i feel about the girl i like, so i can't stop listening to it!
(and i mean.. please guys, you don't have to define if the song is about platonic or romantic love, the beauty of it is that it can be both!)

  10. n.... n....

This song is about everything you want yo see and feel.
There are o restrictions or limits.
And believe me,in a few years from now your interpretation will change totally and this is good thing, because as you get older you expand your horizons by letting your emotions lead you to places where before there were dark and doubt!
Throw away the shoebox you are in and let yourself fly away like a colourful butterfly towards the bright side of the earth.

  11. d.... ....

"Will you see me as your sister" This is being spoken by a girl, and it's not about friendship. You go Alanis for being such an open and human person! People being sore or in denial about this being a song about a relationship between two women should probably stop living in a shoebox and start appreciating how vast and diverse the human world is.

  12. J.... C....

    amo a alanis.

  13. M.... ....

My guess is that this song is not about a friendship or a gay relationship, but is actually sung from the point of view of her husband, like maybe it's the things he said when he asked Alanis to be his girlfriend. I haven't heard Alanis talk about the song though, so I don't know for sure. But that's always been the way I have perceived it.

    M.... ....

It's just about friendship. In a lot of Alanis' songs she will sing lyrics using seemingly a boy's words, like in 'Perfect' on Jagged Little Pill amongst others. This one, though, is just about platonic friendship (that's what I feel, anyway)

  14. R.... A....

    Música linda!!! Amo Alanis

  15. F.... ....

Wow. This song is about friendship, not a romantic relationship. Has the world become so twisted that everything is about who someone has sex with? :/

  16. E.... c....

This is a very good song dealing with friendship.

  17. M.... O....

I love how Alanis sometimes writes and sings from perspectives not her own

  18. J.... M....

    Whatever you loser.

  19. C.... R....

I told a girl if I knew how to play this on guitar and could sing, I would sing and play it for her. Her jaw dropped and she said "you are adorable, funny, and great, and everything but I don't even want a committed relationship with myself right now. Nothing is going right and I'm just trying to stay afloat right now. It just isn't right for me to be in a relationship right now it would be unfair." I just said okay and continued on but I wanted to cry so bad.

  20. T.... F....

Not really, I'm perfectly content with it. And it's quite close minded to be ashamed to be an Alanis fan because she's open to all types of relationships.

  21. R.... K....

this is embarrassing to be a alanis fan with songs like this.

    R.... K....

aw is your fragile ego scared of something that you cant relate to?

  22. D.... A....

    my favorite too. love her

  23. R.... K....

This song is so addictive in a good a way. I fell in love immediately.

  24. S.... B....

    friendship should be like this!
But it's so rare to find something like she sings

  25. H.... ....

My favrorite off the new album along with Woman Down and Edge of Evolution.

  26. I.... ....

cool song...i'd love to be Alanis' girlfriend!!!!!
