My mom used to be a tiger mom back then.She always wants me to be at top ten student at my class.I was good at my school, but once i ever blew up, i didn't make a good grades, and she didn't barely spoke with me for one week.
That was a mixed feeling during my teen, as an asian kid i raised to have a respect to parents, i love her, but at that time i also found myself sometimes hate her because of all her expectations to me. But eventually, i made a peace with her during my college until now. This song bring me to tears, hits me so bad, recall me when she always wanted me to be a perfect kid. I'm a mother now, i learn from my mom, i break the cycle, i won't do the same thing to my kid.

Went to Australia from England the following year after this was released and having my parents virtually disown me cos I didn't do too well in exams. Spent my year loving OZ (CBH - Coogee Bay Hotel) and the new friends I made..... and the rest of my life ..wishing I had more understanding parents...

I teach English to Chinese students....and they are under such pressure to succeed. I feel terrible sometimes. Especially the girls....they are not as prized as the boys.

This is how I feel about competitive gymnastics. I love my mom a lot but she can be hard to please. I did gymnastics and coached it for years, and years. I love that sport a lot. But it's really unrealistic to put those expectations on little kids . Some kids thrive in that but it's not for every kid... and ya there are a lot of great gymnastics careers that don't end in the Olympics or even college gymnastics. Lesson learned. I am not going to put unrealistic expectations on my kid. Seriously the journey is all that matters and he'll learn how to work hard by how I work, not me pushing him.

I don't know if anyone ever noticed, but this is the only song in Jagged Little Pill where Alanis is a bit 'off' in some notes. Sounds like it's a one take. Get it? It's imperfect. Wonderful.

I don't think she's a bad singer at all, but she is definitely raw. I've always liked that she sang like that though. It makes her music more real emotionally.

I remember I used to play this song in Junior High when I was on the bus heading to band festivals and competitions. I didn't play it because my mom was like the parents in the song, but because I was a perfectionist and was hard on myself about being perfect. This song made me relax and know that it was okay not to be perfect. Good memories from this song.

I'm in my 30s, I had a bad accident & surgeries & have been loving with my parents for a while again. I am lucky, 75% of the time we all get on well - & I really have no idea what I'd have done without their support.

BUT what freaks me out a bit is that things we used to joke about, about her parents, my grandparents, she actually has started to justify certain things as she gets older - "now I understand how your gran felt" about various things. :-O !!
