Alanis Morissette - Front Row Lyrics

do you go to the dungeon to find out how to make peace with your days in the dungeon writing a letter
to you didn't make me feel any more peaceful then how I felt when we weren't speaking because I
didn't cop to what I did. I can't love you because we're supposed to have professional boundaries. i'd
like you to be schooled and in awe as though you were kissed by god full on the lips . i'm in the front
row the front row with popcorn I get to see you see you close up i'm too tired to recount the
unpleasantries one by one one minute I want to banish you the next I want to be on
a deserted island with you along with my three favorite cd's ambivalent yet in your
bed we've yet to acknowledge what really happened
slid into the ditch I have this overwhelming loss of ambition we said let's name thirty good reasons why
we shouldn't be together I started by saying things like "you smoke" "you live in new jersey (too far)"
you started saying things like "you belong to the world" all of which could have been easily
refuted but the conversation was hypothetical I am totally short of breath for you why can't you shut
your stuff off..... i'm in the front row the front row with popcorn I get to see you see you close up
and I laughed until my lungs hurt I love how you bust my chops you don't always
feel seen sometimes you feel erasable unfortunately I cannot reciprocate in my
current state I think we should be careful of how much time we spend together
........for a while i'm speaking you know how much you hate to be interrupted maybe spend some
time alone to fill up your proverbial cup so that it doesn't always have to be about you i've been wanting
your undivided attention I like the fact that you're nothing like me are you not burdened by the lack of
perspective people have of your charmed life i'm in the front row the front row with
popcorn I get to see you see you close up you never meant to be ungrateful nor held up to
be whipped or wept for certainly not analysed prodded at more ways than one
apparently you've been misrepresented dealing with the concept of arrows being
slung towards your outrageous fortune
hey i'm not mad at you guardian i'm mad at myself for spending so much time with you and your
jeckyl and hydeness i'm glad i figuratively slapped you on the wrist you laughed a wicked laugh
and said "come here let me clip your wings!"(i know he's blood but you can still turn him away you
don't owe him anything) "raise the roof" he yelled "yeah raise the roof!" I yelled back. (unfortunately
you needed a health scare to reprioritize.) no thanks to the soap box. having me rile against them
won't make an ounce of difference...... i'm in the front row the front row with popcorn. I get to see
you see you close up oh the things i've done for you many a sitch a friend a man's
been left for you oh the books i've read for you the tongues i've bitten for you many
a new city for you many a risk taken for you (not a single regret)

Cuando la música era música y valía la pena...hoy tenemos artistas autotunes cantando todo igual reggaetón y trap🤢🤮

  6. N.... N....

I was starting to "come of age" and loved the purity of this song.... all songs to me just have personal meaning even when people put out a clear meaning, that's why I love music.... this song just brings up memories that are forever embedded within the song, specific mornings, how I felt when the song reached my core the most and who I was at the time. 1999. 20 years younger than today. I guess I was 16... time in life has always been so bittersweet... was anyone else born nostalgic?

Kevin Smith cries when he hears this.

I'm the front row with popcorn.
I get to see you close up.
You know how much you hate to be interrupted, maybe spend some time ALONE!🙄

Unabashedly love this song- love the background stream of consciousness behind. It's like that version of the Psychedelic Furs' Pretty in Pink which has a simultaneous narrative behind the main vocal. Sorry not to bracket the bits above. Your journey.

Ok... Born in the 70's, teenager in the 80's, (best decade ever) aimless young adult in the 90's, single and partied in the early 2000's..... Married in 2006.....kid born a year later..... Now I've got a house, car payment, all that adult bullshit. When I listen to this... I long for the aimless days of my youth.

My favourite song ever! Una lírica interminable y rica que de entrada seduce (sobre todo las voces de fondo de los coros). Una canción extraordinaria, poco común y altamente recomendable. ¡Grande Alanis!

  33. M.... P....

Fell in love with the girl as soon as I heard "jagged little pill", 1 of my favourite artists n always will be 👌

    M.... P....

    still true in 2018

  34. m.... 1....

    Such an original sounding song.

"I'd like you to be schooled and in awe, as though you were kissed by God full on the lips"

    m.... 1....

    Jay in Dogma...

    m.... 1....

I just read that in the thread! Damn Jay...(you know, i've always thought he was sexy eventhough I NEVER understood his work. Something about the beard and eyes, whatever)...what could have been at that time. Guess Alanis saw him for what he was but, she had already evolved to a higher plane of existence.

  35. B.... F....

I can't believe I never knew this song is about Kevin Smith.

    B.... F....

I'm glad i didn't know. When i read the lyrics, it's like my friends talking to me. I'm an addict and after a while people see you for what you have become. Which is a pity because behind the addiction sits the 'real self'. She was attracted to that.

  36. n.... ....

I was fortunate enough to see her sing this live at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City many yrs ago. She's fucking amazing and so is her every endeavor. Love her.

    n.... ....

I've seen a few live videos and she seems to have a very weak voice, i mean, she really can't deliver very well live... (?)

  37. G.... ....

    Amazing song!!! great memories!

  38. J.... J....

    best album from Alanis excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!

    J.... J....

i think jagged little pill is better!

    J.... J....

    I agree

    J.... J....

@Dimitry Muzhetsky This Album is far deeper then jagged little pill

  39. V.... C....

Y así nos sorprendía Alanis con su nuevo álbum allá en el 98. Para cantarla :D

  40. A.... L....

    I love this so much.

  41. S.... G....

it wasn't that I was stoned I couldn't remember 2008- it has taken a ling time for my brain to recovery I couldn't even remember the times table or add  fuck you never asked fuck all of you know of you  never asked .....

    S.... G....

    fuck fuck fuddilly duck fuck!

  42. S.... G....

  45. E.... U....

Part of this song is about Kevin Smith. Particularly the part of "You Smoke and you're from New Jersey."

    E.... U....

Eric Urmanita yes...supposedly they were attracted to each other and almost hooked up...but it never materialized...

    E.... U....

The whole thing is about him, apparently

  46. D.... B....

sometimes i go a year or so void of her voice and rhythm then return for the great feelings of both reminiscence and freshness in the moment. shes both a musician and philosopher perspectivley

  47. p.... s....

still cant get over how good this lady is

    p.... s....

could you imagine the recognition if a man had written this song

  48. R.... C....

I inherited The love for rock from my late sister. She was a huge fan of Alanis :')

    R.... C....

    RIP, she taught you good!

  49. G.... M....

Music has a way of letting you reminisce. When I listen to the songs of Alanis, it bring me down memory lane. =)

    G.... M....

    which typa memories?

    G.... M....

Oh me too. I had the sudden urge to listen to this after almost 20 years. It was my ‘breakup album’ during and after my first big relationship. It’s always interesting how much you’ve changed as a person when you put yourself back to where you were.

  50. A.... ....

Thank you for this playlist. I used to own this cd but it was stolen and haven't gotten around to replacing it. It's nice to find it on here.
