Alanis Morissette - 20/20 Lyrics
I would never have been in such a rush
I would never have tried to control
I would never have worn such 'fear lenses'
I would never have held on so tightly
My loving no’s, my unwavering yes’s
Risked abandonment and stood by that
And thereby felt constant connect
This fountain of regret, this looking back with twenty-twenty
Torturous hindsight if i knew then what i know now
This mountain of remorse won’t repeat with my understanding
This wouldn’t have happened if i knew then what i know now
I would’ve gone slower
Would not have rushed into such commitment
I would’ve shown restraint as my feet got wet
I would’ve baby-stepped into intimate
This fountain of regret, this looking back with twenty-twenty
This torturous hindsight if i knew then what i know now
This mountain of remorse won’t repeat with my understanding
This wouldn’t have happened if i knew then what i know now
I would’ve known much more
Known that time was all we had for future depth to unfold
I would’ve had more faith at every step
I would’ve kept intact through the whole process
Oh this fountain of regret is looking back with twenty-twenty
Torturous hindsight if i knew then what i know now
This mountain of remorse won’t repeat with my understanding
This wouldn’t have happened if i knew then what i know

what does 20/20 mean?
perfect (eye)sight ? that´s what i thought....
I think Alanis looks back on what happened and can see clearly NOW, what went wrong...
@heiko antoni thanks! I had no idea what that expression meant. something like Jimmy Cliff's "I can see clearly now" 😉
@ternitamas you´re welcome :-) I love that song..it is haunting to me.....
Alanis 😍😍😍😍😍

Amazing
Estupendo. Thank U. : D
does anyone happen to know who's playing the instrument in the background? I guess it's a hang and there's only a few hang players
I love Alanis Morrisette so much xxx
I always have
it's a shame
this wasn't on the album. and a shame the album wasn't promoted well. easily her best since JLP, maybe her best ever. certainly her best vocals. Guy Sigsworth is an amazing producer/engineer
ya ysidro is full of shit also we had nothing em an michael had. i wanted a clean break away form him he was a a druggy a scarry druggy the kind tha twill sell you for drugs.
This should be a Lead single or at least second one from FlAVORS OF....:((((
great, great tune!
e' un mito questa DONNA
Great sound.
I still remember hearing this the first time. Felt the same right now. Love it
lindona :)
too bad this song was just a b-side. it would have been great on Flavors of Entanglement.
She's amazing.
This is one of those I can relate so easily songs! I love how she can write like this! This song reminds me of the mistake I made when I moved to Georgia and tried to be with someone that was not right for me
Should have been on the album of Flavors
absolutely
WOW this is great... i love it when she opens up the dark places in herself and shares with us.... "that i would be good" is a great example..x
is it rape she's talking about? non consensual relationship?
same here!
The thing that I have gathered from the lyrics, is that she is singing about how she has grown out of that state of anger, angst and turmoil like in Jagged Little Pill. "This torturous hindsight if I knew then what I know now." Which, at least to me, is showing how she is changing and how things could have changed, if she did things differently. This is just what I'm thinking. Who know's I could still be totally off from her intentions. It's a great song, best on Flavors of Entanglement to me.
I see what you did there!
I love her but I really wish that she would start to challenge her song writing skills and abandon her make a list format.
Society would benefit from more of a tangible LIST to work from when uniting or dissolving.
I love Alanis !
@kisscatastrophe i so agree those song are way more beautiful i was so disappointed those were left out bummer i also wish Madness was on there and replace giggaling again for no reason "if i knew then what i know now"... i wouldn't have bought the album - oh who am i kidding its fuckin alanis morissette i still would have bought it even if it was just one song one there lol
this song fuckin rocks i think anyone can relate to this i love the chimes so beautiful it reminds me on japan of something sorry if i'm politically incorrect
Her Voice is Hypnotic!! ...
WHAT - A - SONG! ♥
@slikkwon This song has absolutely nothing to Do with Glen Ballard. This Track has Lyrics and Vocals By Alanis Morissette, Music by Alanis morissette and Guy Sigsworth.
GLEN BALLARD IS A GENIUS
GLEN BALLARD IS A GENIUS
GLEN BALLARD IS A GENIUS

GLEN BALLARD IS A GENIUS
keep in mind songs like "The Guy Who Leaves" and "Tequilla" aren;t on the album, she put the outtakes on the bonus disc but they are not to be counted as as being on Flavors. Flavors only has 11 tracks. and I have to say, it's her best since JLP. the only thing I would change is I'd get rid of "Citizen" and "Moratorium" and replace them with "Orchid" and "20/20", but that's just me
I LOOOOVE orchid! maybe cause I am one =)
Just discovered this song and immediately I'm in love. What a FANTASTIC chorus! The whole song is awesome but there's something so intriguing about that chorus.
Happy Birthday Alanis Morissette!!!!!!
Fantastic, I love this song :)
I see some of you not liking Flavors.....I have to admit, she was very creative and deeply personal on this album, and I think it is really one of her best so far.....who knows what the next album has in store for us? I sure hope she combines her older style and this electronically infused material together for the next album.
@rac717 It could just be a matter of taste then if your big into the acoustic aspects of music. JLP and SFIJ where 2 amazing albums and everything after that for me was blah. URS was a girly Im insecure album SCC was a self help album but then IDK Flavors brought back the loud music and a return to better lyric's (something other than the topic of love thank goodness.)
Yancy, most of her past offerings left me wanting more. Even Chaos and Junkie contained some great stuff. I never found her boring. I just think that the music in Flavors is uninspired. Yes, Orchid is good, but falls short of the quality of so many other Alanis songs, IMO. I never tire of good accoustic guitar, and there is not enough on Flavors.
@rac717 ...Tequilla is stupid. however there are great tracks on Flavors that hark back to the supposed era which was in my opinion her best. Citizen of the planet,Versions of violence, moratorium, Tapes, Madness, Orchid, the guy who leaves...so many. The elctronic flourish she incorporated saved her from being boring which was what was happing in the so called chaos era.
this can be found on ebay on the single Underneath
I don't agree, but Under Rug Swept was great. Flavors of Entanglement is awful, with only Tapes and Incomplete rating as very good to me. Tequila flat out sucks.
@mcorrupted I am that way with Alanis...huge fan and I do show friends what she did long after Pill...they go omg she is MUCH better after that cd
Beautiful !!!
Nice voice.
This should have been on the album!!! I so love this song!
This Song IS the BEST I am trying to order the Japanese album just to get this song... lol LOVE IT and LOVE HER!!!!
From what I can find this track was bonus track off the Flavor of album
20/20 [Japanese Bonus Track]
this woman is one of the most amazing singer/songwriters in the history of music. she writes what's true to her and in doing so creates a following of emotionally sound and open people that relate to her every word. she's not out to make a buck or a zillion pretentious fans. she turns real life pain/happiness/anger/etc into amazing melodic poetry and thereby making even the most paralizing pain beautiful. i owe my life to her.
very true. she is a poet. That is why she doesn't have to race to make a new album every year. One she takes her time writing it and carefully planning how it sounds..then since it lasts over the years she is able to do one every few years.
Althought one every year would be wonderful...lol
Alanis is what the industry calls a "word-of-mouth" artist. It is understood that her product may not "explode" or race up the charts. Rather, her albums "have legs," meaning that they sell and sell and sell over the long run on the strength of verbal recommendations from one friend to another. And, yes, there =is= a sort of "cult" following. Alanis is a poet, after all.
I added up all the bonuses from this album's sessions....technically she could have done another Feast On Scraps type album
amazing song... better than underneath!
love it
I totally agree with you. She may not be on top anymore but her music does stay with you through the years. She is my favorite artist regardless
wow I LOVE this song!!!! Awesome sound and her voice is amazing!!! I totally need this song!!!! Another good song left off the album....sigh.....
yeah, i love madness :-D
all great really..
*sigh* why do the unreleased b sides tend to b better than the actual singles.... :-D
This song is wicked!!! I can't seem to get hold of the underneath single online. I am desperate for this track. Go Alanis! x
then fucking write an album and win grammies you cuntless bitch!
SHE IS an ARTIST and SONGWRITER and wonderful MUSICIAN she's FUCKING free to do whatever she feels like DOING, ok????
that song is sooooooooooo alanis, she doesnt care what anyone thinks, she'll just do it, she'll play sing and do whatever she feels like doing, she'll do it ok???
i mean..... if she's starts listening to what every idiot on the planet has to say about her she'll like sooo end up being a carbon copy of ___?
adorei!
kinda bjorkish...
WAY TO GO, guy sigsworth!
This song is dazzling.
Best song from this album
