Alan Parsons Project, The - The Cask Of Amontillado Lyrics

BY the last breath of the four winds that blow
I'll have revenge upon Fortunato
Smile in his face I'll say "come let us go
I've a cask of Amontillado"

Sheltered inside from the cold of the snow
Follow me now to the vault down below
Drinking the wine as we laugh at the time
Which is passing incredibly slow

(What are these chains that are binding my arm?)
Part of you dies each passing day
(Say it's a game and I'll come to no harm)
You'll feel your life slipping away

You who are rich and whose troubles are few
May come around to see my point of view
What price the Crown of a King on his throne
When you're chained in the dark all alone

(Spare me my life only name your reward)
Part of you dies each brick I lay
(Bring back some light in the name of the Lord)
You'll feel your mind slipping away

As a Handi-Goth I can't help but be distracted by such sloppy mortar work. Great song, though. Great instrumental passages. But that corridor...

  2. J.... Y....

I need to know why lil Wayne sampled this🤔🤔

  3. l.... ....

Шикарная вещь. Люблю. Изменение музыкального размера с 3/4 на 4/4. Красиво!!!

  4. H.... B....

I have a feeling that Joel from MST3K knows every word of this album by heart. 🙃

  5. S.... G....

My ex wife and I used to get insanely high and listen to this album. Good times.

  6. o.... ....

I love that album. I got it in '76.

  7. V.... H....

Lord Jadakiss brought me here. I stayed.

I remember when the Alan Parsons project was a new band. I was in high School. This album was released the year I graduated.

    J.... E....

I was 15 when I first heard I Robot on my friends radio . I couldn't believe something so unique could be put together. Man I was so fucken stoned .. I love that tune

  9. C.... V....

The fantastic brass of APP; when I hear this piece I feel transported in some forgotten heroic times

    C.... V....

APP did have fantastic brass, their horns especially!

  10. M.... P....

    Seriously fucking good.

  11. 1.... ....

Me, a stoned 15-year-old .... I thought this was the most amazing album ever. Even better than Dark Side of the Moon. Now, in my 50s, I still feel that way.

    1.... ....

@Steve Hughes I did not assert that cannabis consumption was a precondition for enjoying the album. But I do find it interesting that you are able to judge the effects of a substance that you have never tried. Speaking for myself, it has been my experience that a subjective approach to evaluating substances is often critical to achieving a foundational understanding of their efficacy. TNQ

    1.... ....

@Todd Q I didn't say you said it was necessary. I said that I enjoyed pretty well without. I believe that was all that I said. Btw, using big words really doesn't make people more likely to believe you. It just makes you sound pompous.

    1.... ....

@Steve Hughes Do you feel better now Steve? Maybe if you smoked a little herb you would be less inclined to criticize other folks vocabulary or writing style. Chill out man.

    1.... ....

Dear God Man ! think clearly before you say something is " better than Pink Floyd "

    1.... ....

dude, look at the credits of "Dark Side of the Moon": Music-Producer was Alan Parsons !! Way back than he was supposed to be "the 5th Pink Floyd member"... ;)

  12. R.... E....

Reminds me of what Barnabas did to Reverend Trask on dark shadows

    R.... E....

Did you just reference Dark Shadows???? I must be in the Way Back Machine! Barnabas was always a creepy dude...

The Turn of a Friendly Card is the high point in my opinion with Tales just behind, but ALL his work is well worth checking out.

    b.... b....

No, you don´t. For me I Robot is the best, then this one and Pyramid and The Turn of Friendly Card and Eye in the Sky are next. And of course many single ones of the other albums...

Always loved APP, all their songs take me on a trip.

  29. J.... ....

Alan Parsons was an incredibly under-rated artist.

It isn't always about having a great voice, Songs are sometimes all about the story telling, and boy does he tell a good one here.

    J.... ....

The "great voice" is kinda irrelevant since Alan Parsons is not the singer! All vocals done by studio vocalists.

    J.... ....

@John chapman Didn't Leonard Whiting (Romeo in the 1969 film) sing lead on The Raven?

Fortunato had it coming...I've tasted Amontillado and it's horrible--anyone fool enough to be lured to his doom for the promise of such appalling paint-thinner deserves to be walled up!

  38. b.... ....

youre right.. the 76 version is more raw, not as processed, the 87 version represents this song much better.

    b.... ....

No way.....the overdubs totally screw up the rhythm and flow of othewise flawless recordings. Bought '87 version in '87.....literally two days before it was released! I had a friend at the record distributer and he got me an early copy. Listened to it once and threw it in the trash. Have the ,76 version ofTales on viynl, cassette, cd, and an ultra rare reel-to-reel. Have been offered up to $500.00 for the reel-to-reel, but they wiil bury me with that one. Along with my reel-to-reel of DSOTM and Animals! At least I'll have some decent tunes when I get where I'm going! Rock on Alan!!!!

  39. b.... ....

    you have good taste!

  40. b.... ....

that chorus, iv always thought was perhaps the most beautiful bit of music i have ever heard... in even the most beautiful songs.

  41. p.... ....

    vzqk50CL,you've outdone yourself this time.

  42. n.... ....

All and all, not just another brick in the wall, even if Parsons did work a bit with the Pink Floyd guys. :)

Maybe it's not Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground, but this song expresses loneliness about as well as it can be expressed.

  43. M.... P....

They damn sure don't make music like this anymore! Best example of a concept band if I have ever heard one!

  44. J.... J....

They don't make music like this anymore!

    J.... J....

They really don't make music anymore.
It's more marketing than anything else.

  45. D.... ....

A ha. Yes, he's been insane all his life. And he had some extra bricks.

  46. H.... S....

He does. Montressor is clearly insane. He bricked him up because Fortunato insulted him.

  47. v.... ....

Based on your comment, I am getting ready to publish the 1976 version from the original master CD. I have completed the entire side 1, and am working on side 2 now. Look for it soon on my HD channel (vzqk50HD)

    v.... ....

    riff raff

  48. D.... ....

I didn't get that when I first read the story. Now I have to read it again.

  49. n.... ....

This is not the version from 1976, I have it on vinyl and it sounds slightly different, much more raw. Is this the "remix" from 1987?

  50. D.... ....

You get a man drunk and brick him up in the basement. Never do you tell us what he did to deserve such a fate.

    D.... ....

Read the short story and you'll find out. Not that it's a very noble motive. . . .

    D.... ....

He insulted him repeatedly. Basically he consigned Fortunato to a living tomb because he was mean to him a bunch of times. Thin skinned these Venetians. :-)

    D.... ....

For being an ass to him. The narrator, we learn as with many of Poe's stories, was a sociopath. What we love about Poe is that he's all about death and sociopath perspectives.

  51. S.... ....
