Al Stewart - Merlin's Time Lyrics

And I think of you now
As a dream that I had long ago
In a kingdom lost in time

In a forest of evening
The archer is bending a bow
And I see you bring him bread and wine

Down the legions of years
The invaders have taken this land
And bent you to their will

And the memories fade of the ancients
And all that they had
Though the magic lingers round you still

Oh, who would walk the stony roads
of Merlin's time?
And keep the watch along the borderline

And who would hear the legends passed
in song and rhyme?
Upon the shepherd pipes of Merlin's time

At the time that 24 Carrots was released the backing band for Al (Shot in the dark) had their own Album release. It was extremely under rated and had never been released in a CD version. Had you ever considered a video for the “Shot in the Dark”? There were some great songs including The title (Some Towns) that featured Krysia’s stellar vocals. Another song that was before it’s time was I Want the Moon. Just a thought I know you could do that Album justice finally. Truly it was a forgotten gem
    love your work MGM!

  26. v.... ....

Another great accomplisment of his is titled"Roads to Moscow" There is a very moving post of it on you tube i find exceptionally arranged in terms of image selection.

    v.... ....

That is his 9th Symphony, his B-Minor Mass.
Wish it got more play (wish all his music got more play) but at least it means he's not just known as a 2-hit Wonder (if you're a real fan, you know which ones I mean).

  27. Z.... L....

Its like a history lesson in a song He's a truly a bard lol

It's always so great to hear from other fans......Al Stewart is truly an exceptional artist. I've been listening to some of his later albums quite a bit in the last couple of months...though I seem to always go to the early stuff...there are real treasures in all his most recent albums as well!

Thanks for the very gracious words for the videos....it's knowing wonderful fans like yourself enjoy them that makes it worth continuing.

Thanks also for a thoughtful comment!

  31. R.... ....

I'm so glad I found someone who likes Al Stewart's music as much as I do!!! This songwriter isn't too appreciated in my country ( Italy), and it's a pity.Since I discovered your channel I found a little piece of Paradise; your videos are actually AMAZING, all of them.Thank you for sharing these masterpieces of yours with all the world!

  32. M.... ....

Beautiful!! Perfect for a sunny/cloudy wintry morn here in South Australia. This album is one of many that I have played, but not really listened to, too much brilliant music out there, not enough ours in the day....... Thanx for making me sit down and pay attention!!

  36. M.... ....

Yeah my sleepydreamer friend....the imagery from this song is of course European.....your backyard! It must be so wonderful to live in a place with such an incredibly deep history! Thanks as always for the nice words!
