Al Stewart - Electric Los Angeles Sunset Lyrics

Shots split the night, a bullet lodged in his brain
He must have died instantly, he felt no pain
A crowd quickly gathered to the feast of the gun
Waiting for the ambulance and cops to come
Hm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Sirens wail in the concrete
Hm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Electric Los Angeles sunset, the sunset, the sunset, oh-o-oh

Headlight lit the faces by the tabernacle door
Gazing at the bloodstains on the damp sidewalk
As the crowd turned to go, a man was heard to say
"He must have had it comin' to him anyway"
Hm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Blood wagon rolls through the dragnet
Hm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Electric Los Angeles sunset, the sunset, the sunset, oh-o-oh

Cadillacs roll through the smoggy perfume
The buildings are choking on oxygen fumes
Evangelists praying in rented rooms, in the afternoon
Which way do the signposts read
African eyes in the sunrise
The gates of the city are rusted over and mouldering
The violence of the evening decays into the night
While shadows press like moths against the neon light
Movie queues diffuse into the Cinerama haze
While libertines read pornozines in street cafes
Hm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
The madman swings in the pulpit
Hm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Electric Los Angeles sunset, the sunset, the sunset, oh-o-oh

  20. J.... S....

Most of these comments are about the song and the artist's work, but someone always has to get nasty and ruin it with dumbass statememts.

  21. G.... F....

One of the best titles I ever heard in my life - it would be awesome if someone could upload a tutorial of how to play it.

  22. C.... B....

This would be a the perfect lead-in song for a TV cop drama, or a cop movie.  PERFECT.  I've always thought so.  Someday it'll be discovered.  Al Stewart is one of the most under-recognized artists in history.  He has some awesome stuff.

    C.... B....

@Carl Balis No guff. Lets hope for True Detective!

    C.... B....

+Carl Balis I always loved Al's songs. Al Stewart was at the Dutch Festival in 1970.

    C.... B....

Really would be the perfect theme song.

    C.... B....

Oh yeah spot on, I remember thinking that back in 1978 when I 1st heard this brilliant track.

  23. G.... R....

Als "el dorado"  story....  He must have died instantly, he felt no pain!

"The madman swings in teh pulpit."

  24. J.... N....

The first song I heard from Al was Bed Sitter Images and I liked it very much, but the Electric LA Sunset just knocked me down.

  25. D.... B....

TO ALL AL STEWART AND PETER WHITE FANS
PHIL KENZIE The legendary sax soloist on all of Al Stewart's hits
will be appearing at the upcoming "once in a lifetime" concert at The Royal Albert Hall on October 15th. This concert coincides with the release of Phil's CD, " A Night With The Cat" which will be available for purchase.
A tribute to Al Stewart's artistry, it is an instrumental version of the magical lyrics of "The Year of The Cat". which will be enjoyed by all on this very special night.

  32. W.... C....

Klatuu1956 needs to get laid by a ballbusting lesbian, but he doen't have enough Viagra.

  33. d.... a....

All i saw on the google sight was that al libves in notheen cal. and has a daughter with a albume coming out! What a surprise! Nepistisum strikes again! NO picture of anyone in his family. I wont be buyinh her albume wonder if it's about lesbians in king arthers time? The folks who raun the planet phrengus will do what they said in the 1951 film if you go and fuck with us like the usa did in iraq!

  34. d.... a....

your sweedish not al stewart! go pay your 90% taxes and then go fuck your dog perfert! al sounds like a homo and most of his lyrics are about loving other men

  35. a.... ....

and what are you ? Man or dog ? Maybe a pig ? But no ,they are nice as well.I myself I am a married man to a woman, but I could not care less for idiotic comments.

  36. T.... T....

To all the morons who think he is gay, I know personally that he married his wife Kris in 1991 and currently lives with Kris and their two children in Marin County, CA as stated previously.

    T.... T....

Al currently lives in Brentwood, CA with his longtime girlfriend Jill...

  37. N.... C....

I like Al Stewart a lot and saw him in concert a couple of times. But I think Dylan is far superior and he does not write just abstract lyrics but has many narrative lyrics as well eg Hurricane.

  38. d.... a....

Al is as queer as a 3 dollar bill

  39. T.... ....

You're a moron. Al is married and lives in Marin County, California with his wife and 2 daughters. Next time, try using Google before making bullshit statements.

  40. a.... a....

didnt you steal this song from a 12 year old in l a al?

  41. d.... a....

al hasent had a good song since 1980.he should write one about being a homosexual for witch he is.

  42. e.... ....

CORRECTION: Jacques Levy, not Jacques Brel. Completely other French-named writer.

  43. e.... ....

You are ALMOST 100% right... except that most of the songs on Desire were co-writes with Jacques Brel. Not to be picky, just sayin'!

  44. V.... ....

Erm... to be honest, I can only assume you're not very au fait with Dylan's work. He has written more "narrative" songs than almost any other songwriter! Just a selection: Talking WW3 Blues, Ballad of Hollis Brown, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, Bob Dylan's 115th Dream, Lily Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts, almost everything from 'Desire', Brownsville Girl, Highlands.

  45. P.... T....

No offense to Dylan-- he's certainly top 10 of all time among songwriters-- but abstract lyrics are a lot easier (and less risky) to write than narrative lyrics like this one.

  46. e.... a....

mitä vittua tää tuli täähän o-o

  47. V.... ....

Well... if you take His Bobness out of the equation, then you might have a better case. ;)

  48. R.... ....

Just found a "live" recording of this from a 1973 BBC Radio 1 broadcast.

  49. b.... ....

Sorry to say, these lyrics put most of what I've seen of the output of Jim Morrison to shame...

  50. D.... L....

i wonder why you never heard this song, one of the greats of that decade. Classic radio should be playing this everyday.

  51. B.... D....

Al Stewart is simply the greatest lyricist in history. Period.

  52. P.... T....

The lyrics on this track are just incredible. The third verse might be the best of any song I've ever heard.

  53. N.... ....

    LOve this!

  54. S.... ....

Cool song, a hidden gem of the 60's for shizzle

  55. R.... D....

    que buena canción..........great song!
Al forever........please come to Perú !!

  56. S.... ....

Along with Manuscript, this is my favourite track from Zero She Flies. It's got to be played LOUD!

  57. G.... C....

I like to think he felt pain, even if he did die instantly, seems more arousing that way.

  58. L.... F....

fantastic ...al stewart......up there with the best............clear and unmistakable voice

  59. p.... ....

Thanks for this info. I am very happy to purchase. Always happy to support all music making!

  60. h.... ....

@phababob Maybe to PURCHASE this maybe the answer - still available, as
CBS/Columbia would like YOU to support the music?

  61. p.... ....

I don't suppose you (or anyone else) has a copy of "Gethsamane Again" ?

  62. p.... ....

Great to hear this again after too many years,
