Al Jarreau - Sophisticated Lady Lyrics
They say into your early life romance came
And in this heart of yours burned a flame
A flame that flickered one day and died away
Then, with disillusion deep in your eyes
You learned that fools in love soon grow wise
I see you now
Smoking, drinking, never thinking of tomorrow, nonchalant
Diamonds shining, dancing, dining with some man in a restaurant
Is that all you really want?
No, sophisticated lady,
I know, you miss the love you lost long ago
And when nobody is nigh you cry
Smoking, drinking, never thinking of tomorrow, nonchalant
Is that all you really want?
No, sophisticated lady,
I know, you miss the love you lost long ago
And when nobody is nigh you cry
Sophisticated lady
You cry

billy eckstein was a master balladeer. his version of this song IS a classic. although each generation thinks their music is the best, all students of music will pay homage to those whose work has paved a way. Mr. b is one of the masters. find it.
@twist3535 It's your lucky day, Twist!
I have Ecktine's version...I can email it to you.
I can't seem to find Billy Eckstine's version of this song (Dying of curiosity now, thanks!)... But I have been giving a listen to the many artists that have attempted this, and I'm am STILL in love with the young Al Jarreau here... His voice just floats like it was made to be the ONE and only person to hit near-perfection!
Someday I *will* hear Billy Eckstine's version, but I just don't know how it could possibly be better... :)
you are smoking, drinking never thinking of tomorrow.... :(
Sophisticated Lady
Al Jarreau's incredible range and dynamics does great justice to this lovely song. I also love Blossom Dearie's soft version of this song. It's on Utube.check it out!

thanks for visiting over again and again.....
Great memories of Billy Eckstine in a smoky Angelo's in the Village back in the 40's. He did S. Lady 3-4 times a night for us college kids who worshipped him and the era. (and this great song)
you're welcome artsloving! thanks for listening and stopping by!
Very great interpretation of this beautifull song! Thanks for providing it!
You're welcome.
I have it on my collection of 78's LP , on Mercury, titled Billy and Quincy Jones. I don't think it is available on Utube.
