Al Jarreau - Blue Rondo A La Turk (Round, Round, Round) Lyrics

Round, round, round a melody
Round, round, round a harmony
Round, round, round a melody,
harmony, melody-steadily

Round, round, round a melody
Round, round, round a memory
Round, round, round a melody,
memory, melody, merrily.

There's a melody I used to play
Counterpoint every yesterday.
Swiftly up and down I hasten and
chasten my fingers and heart to play.

Round, round, round a melody
Round, round, round a memory
Round, round, round a melody
memory, harmony-steadily

Round, round, round a melody
Round, round, round a mystery
Round, round, round a melody,
mystery, mirror of history.

Taking over all my reveries
Hearing passions in the melodies
Play it up and down so wearily-
Stumbling, fumbling, tumbling.

Round, round, round a melody
Round, round, round a harmony
Round, round, round a melody
Harmony, melody, memory

Round, round town I follow you.
Round, round town I'm calling you.
Round, round town I hasten to do
all the chasing you want me to.

Open up an opportunity,
For I know that you will be
Truly happy and content with me.
Measure me, treasure me, pleasure me.

Open up an opportunity.
Open up an offer. You will be
Truly happy and content with me.
Measure me, treasure me, pleasure me.

Round, round, round a melody
Round, round, round a you and me.
Round, round, round a melody
you and me, melody and harmony.

Round, round, round a melody
Round, round, round a harmony
Round, round, round a melody,
harmony, mystery-you and me.

Don't you see
That we were meant to be,
One and the same.
Melody, married to harmony,
One and the same.
Change the score
We will be ever more
One and the same.
Melody, married to harmony
One and the same.

Here it comes, our symphony,
measure by measure.
A melody and harmony,
you and me in harmony.
You and me so happy
we're making it
Shaking the blues ain't bothering me.

Here it comes, our symphony,
measure by measure,
a pleasure.
A melody and harmony,
you and me in harmony
You and me so happy
we found a new rondo,
To end the blue rondo today.

Here because of Nas. Amazing how he turned this into rap.

  10. A.... B....

The very first time I heard this CLASSIC was on a TRASHED song by the Quintessential Queensbridge Poet!

  11. D.... R....

You know why I am here. RIP Al Jarreau.

  12. F.... ....

This WHOLE ALBUM is a CLASSIC!

Thanks Nas for giving the new generation a taste.

  13. B.... A....

    Nas brought me here

  14. A.... L....

Investigating. Nas brought me here, but I thought the melody was by someone else. Edited. Thought, so, the original song was done by my favorite Jazz musician, the late, but very great, Mr. Dave Brubeck. Check out this link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veX9dotK_do

  15. C.... B....

Nas putting the young folks up on Al Jarreau. Salute to two legends.

  23. H.... H....

Hip-Hop has a history of bringing back to life that has been forgotten. Thank You, Nas!

  24. O.... S....

If Nasir Jones brought you here, you have been seriously missing out. Al Jarreau's "Breakin Away" album is a masterpiece. Al outdid himself with this tune written by Dave Brubeck, who was responsible for another master classic, "Take Five".

    O.... S....

@HULKTHECHEF Grew up on Al's music. Got almost all of his albums dating back to like 1975. Back when they used to play his music on urban contemporary radio.

    O.... S....

@Original Soul Nice, I wasn't checking for him until I heard Will Smith referenced him in a joke on the Fresh Prince back in the day I want to say sometime around Hearts Horizon in which was phenomenal all the way down to the Joker playing card art work....the elders put me on to game..

    O.... S....

@HULKTHECHEF Yeah man, he put out good music and had that vocal range. Rachelle Ferrell is the female version of him.

    O.... S....

You can say that again because I was a about 11 when my uncle introduced me to Al Jarreau

    O.... S....

@HULKTHECHEF lol I found him through we are the world but better late than never and through an odd source.

  25. K.... ....

See people are hating but guess what Nas has brought jazz to a lot of people of new school and paid homage same time, hate it or love it, this adds on to history books people

  26. C.... W....

Escobar season brought me here! Classic music begets classic music I guess 🤷🏾‍♂️ 🎶🎤

  27. i.... ....

    Nas brought me here too.

  28. C.... H....

If you're here from the Nas track, check this whole album out, it's good shit. The track "Easy" is fire.

    C.... H....

Listen to Grandma's hands from Al jarreau that shit fire!

    C.... H....

Al Jarreau has always been amazing.
I came here because of Nas as well. But I've loved this piece for years!

    C.... H....

Yesterday, you left Brazil and went
    Away to see the world....

  29. c.... l....

Nas directed me here!! Thanks esco!!

  30. A.... F....

    Nas brought me here!

  31. A.... O....

    Nas brought me here....

  32. E.... M....

Nas - “Al Jarreau of rap” brought me here

    E.... M....

I love that nas joint but I also love the fact that al jarreau is getting some long overdo shine and the young cats can check out his catalog

    E.... M....

So this is called vocalese. The original version of this song had no lyrics. Many great jazz songs had lyrics added much later by other artists. One of the best known vocalese artists was a singer named Jon Hendricks. The beauty of what Nas did was he added new lyrics over lyrics that were made up for a song that originally had no lyrics.

The original song is Blue Rondo by Dave Brubeck. Al Jarreau actually does another more famous Brubeck song, Take Five. Jarreau was a vocal genius.

    E.... M....

You just now catching on to the genius of Al Jarreau? Al Jarreau bought me here. NAS couldn't sing this song in a thousand years

  33. T.... C....

    Nas brought me here!!!!

    T.... C....

Me 2, bro....me 2... and I'm gonna bring everyone I know here to hear this dope song. I hope you do the same (which is what I think Nas was banking on...)

  34. J.... M....

    Nas brought me here

  35. f.... g....

Nas just Murdered this sample! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BEwNkGYkMM&fbclid=IwAR0-lCVZRATtuN34FM3ujv3Bmlx-ThWX3t0eo3VvA9hOaWR59W14fIp6csI

  36. A.... F....

    Nas ruined this

    A.... F....

Really? . Tripping Fantano is. I grew up with my Father playing this at the crib. Nasir crippled this sample.

    A.... F....

Anthony Fantano if by “ruined” you mean “rocked it” or like “yoooooo Nas tore this track UP!!! He RUINED it!” Then yeah....you right! LOL

    A.... F....

    Where's your musical contribution? Sthu

  37. N.... P....

my guy for life rip al

  38. S.... 6....

Heard "Breakin Away" on a pop station back in the day, and absolutely begged my parents for the album. Thankfully I received it in cassette form on my 16th birthday...I quickly left the birthday festivities and completely wore that tape out on my boom box in my bedroom

  39. M.... C....

    Legend of skat. Next Ledisi.

    M.... C....

+Ms. Complexbeing4life - Ledisi is only one of many who is chasing Ella Fitzgerald my dear...lol

  40. V.... S....

He's a fucking genius. RIP Al.

  41. M.... W....

That whole Breaking Away album is tight!!! Excellent production. Kinda reminds me of an Earth, WInd & Fire album especially the title track with those crisp horns towards the end. Brilliant!!!!

    M.... W....

Produced by the legendary Jay Graydon!

  42. R.... E....

Has anyone proclaimed this man "the Master of Scat"?

    R.... E....

Rodrick Edmund Brown - Check out John Hendricks' recording of Freddie Freeloader. Both he and Al feature on that joint

    R.... E....

Ella Fitzgerald would have something to say about that..side bar listen to the new Nas song Jarreau of rap..its a great tribute to this song

  43. R.... M....

Simply amazing!!  Upon learning of his passing, this melody/harmony continuously played in my thoughts as I thought of him throughout the day.  I am very grateful for his musical contributions!  This era of his music inspired most of the memories I hold dear during the early years of my military career.

  44. T.... T....

Never fails to amaze me - his voice, creativity, energy - in this piece especially. The world seems different without him in it.

  45. K.... J....

    Awesome tune.

  46. T.... C....

YEAH I remember this one like it just came out.
