Against Me! - Haste Killed Creativity Lyrics

The days blow by in agile moments of clarity and blind despair. With rage so thick it's bittersweet to see a smile come through here and there. You put your faith in living, but youthful idealism is no longer welcome here. I'm not dead yet. Hopes not dead yet. A hero's march down scorn filled halls defeats the charity of last years hell. Your vain eyes show no respect, just loss of recognition broken spirit burnt out will. Sing a song of cynicism a foul smell of shit decay and degradation in the midst of celebration. I'm not dead yet. Hopes not dead yet.

You can't be educated for it. It's too broad. You have to start with something. A basic education is needed. After that it's on you.

school takes your hobbies, creative, likes and interest away from you from the moment you first step in.
school brings you stress, anxiety, self consciousness, depression and more.
At this point now, we don't even learn.
We don't worry about education anymore, we worry about getting something done so we get a grade . My school cramps everything in at once without time, it's not fair. Another thing, they don't stop to think about students life's behind school gates, they insist that you have, internet, transportation, money, like the "perfect" life. School isn't fair at all, the ones who don't have easy life's get left behind and no one talks about it. I'm a student myself of highschool and I hate going to school because I'm not fit for the damn place.

HI GUYS, I'm trying to listen what he is saying. BUT i thing it seems to be impossible for me, due to the face that I can't listen to british accent. Could u guys please recommend some tips for me to brush up on my english ?

  29. K.... W....

I have waited some time before providing a response as I ve sat back an listen to current events that have played out in the life of education of children. I found it very interesting that in your speech you asked of a child's creativity, but you fell to provide any intuition from the adults prospective that is pouring into the child. So the image is a prospective that is unrealistic to the goal in reverse. what are ways to combat such concerns?

  30. S.... H....

To all the white supremacist going on about iq and no child left a dime. Notice there are almost zero black faces in the phony "talking down to" re education patronizing fascist RED talks. This one especially. Because hearing some English accent prattle on about ahit everybody already knows just doesn't seem to hold much interest. Unless you are desperate to feign intelligence and this is how you plan to do it. Listening to somebody tell you what everybody already knows and pretending like it is something new

    S.... H....

Stephen , do you know all those white people ? Do you know they are supremacists , or are you classing them just because of their skin colour ? As for there not being enough black faces , if there were more would you be calling them Uncle Toms ? The subject matter doesn't please you because everybody already knows about it . Well , come up with a subject matter that nobody knows anything about and see if you can get an audience to listen .

This video is truly the best gift I could wish for. It’ll be so hard to find on this net a talk that can compare to this. It really feels like the father of Ted Talks and I’m grateful for this content.

Many comments are saying schools are crap. Personally, i learned to read and write at school, abilities which I’m using here, and I expect many of us would admit the same. But yes education has a lot of problems and this talk spotlights some, and suggest solutions. Respect tho to all my teachers who helped me

  36. D.... L....

Yes, yes, yes. School create workers, not creators.

High school kids don't have a clue.

really, Schools kills creativity. I have never been given the chance to show my creativity in my interested field rather followed the same procedure of getting degrees...BSc. MSc., B.Ed

  55. M.... ....

You know what's ironic, we literally have to write an essay about this in school. lol

Education is important. Very important! But in my opinion it’s not done right. School teaches us to think realistically. They also teach us to forget our dreams, simply because they’re unrealistic goals. There are so many people with a college diploma, they have a full time job and they have a decent salary. But how many of them live a happy life?

School should definitely teach us maths, science, history and all those subjects, but it should also teach us how to use or find our talents. Everybody has a talent. Lots of people say ‘school is a place where you develop your talents.’ WRONG! I’m a musician, and I learnt so much about producing music without school. How? I tried things and I discovered things. I met with people who are like-minded and they taught me how certain things work.

I know, we cannot give extra music, dance, art, acting lesson on schools (luckily there are schools for those things). But at least teachers should teach us that anything is possible and that we should stay curious.

The time we spent in a single school day is huge. Sometimes we start at 8:30 am and school ends at 5 pm. And then teachers still want us to focus at then end of the day. Wow.......

The system we live in is messed up.

  58. T.... ....

Intelligence and creativity invokes change while education promotes repetition and memorization. Nobody ever won a Nobel by memorizing something.

For anyone who might see this answer me this:

    1. Robinson paints a fairly negative picture of the direction school systems have been going over the past many decades. To what extent do you agree with Robinson? Why or why not?
    2. What do you think of Robinson's commentary on the humanities?
    3. What else struck you as particularly interesting, surprising, unsettling? Do you think Robinson omitted anything important, or is wrong in any of his statements?

  60. B.... H....

Boy, you learn from listening to Sir Ken Robinson lots of amazing things.

  61. I.... t....

What’s worse is living with a family that looks down upon creativity and looks at money as the main priority. Money is essential for some aspects of mental, physical, and emotional health, but workaholism culture brings none of those three needs.

I swear school should just be a playlist on YouTube where you have short videos explaining very well. For example a playlist about algebra basics then every video gets more advanced. U get a deadline when to pass the exam at school to eliminate cheating etc. U have more time for yourself, there would be less "depressed people", less drug use by students as they wont get talked into it, less school shooting happening and there would be a lot more creativity in people, because school kills students creativity. And the teachers should have an option to see stats of students by name if they are struggling to understand a video, for example the student has replayed the video 10 times. The teacher can text the student personally to see if they need any help. The students can have waaaay more time to be kids or teenagers, or can do a 8 hour student job that would help the economy.
and school would be fun af as u can only do the fun classes, and ur not obligated to go to school either, only for the exams, u can take sport classes or art etc meeting people like ur self. Or tell the school im not interested in the "fun" classes school has to offer but id rather want to help the economy but i always wanted to work at the farm and see how farmers plant a seed or how to crop and u would still be able to take the test at the end of the month. There are so many possibilities. i swear its a dream to have a system like that Smart Learning
were still learning the old boring way, thats not efficient at all, wake up early sit in class for 8 hours, every fucking week for so many years
that even the teachers aren't putting any effort in any more. The teachers can put more effort in a 10 minute video that is replayable at any time then the 30+ years he or she will teach its fucking mind blowing

  65. A.... V....

Only creative people can nurture creativity most teachers don't even care about a persons interests or talents if they do not have the same ones themselves.

  67. T.... P....

Still true in 2019 and schools keep overburdening kids with sitting down still for hours and study science/humanistics to detail, stressing with assessment/competition and without some practical approach. Yet I'm happy there are very good teachers out there

  68. .... ....

I think the idea that schools kill students' creativity fits very well in korean high schools. So many exams and tasks are disturbing all students :(

  69. H.... T....

I haven't seen the video. The title is such dumb question that I won't spend time watching it. Of course schools kill creativity. That's their main function. Creativity is individualism. The guiding purpose of today's schools is to foster conformity, to instill the spirit of obedience.

    H.... T....

There is more to a talk than the title, you might enjoy it.

  70. n.... j....

I listened to it now and then. so clever that man.

  71. .... ....

    觉得太高端大气上档次,我们的老师好像很少会考虑这种问题,把课上完了就走了,哪里还会有这样的思索。

  72. E.... P....

Creativity is great! I think it is necessary to change the educational system. And enable children to develop and change the world. Children are our future!

  73. I.... B....

Sad how when someone sees you fail in doing something from arts & humanities and they just say, “ah well it’s okay, it’s not for you.” But when you fail a math test or science they just tell you, “try harder next time and prepare”.

  74. c.... t....

this croud was a little laugh happy. i didnt find it funny at all

  75. T.... P....

Yes, it does. I love writing, I'm trying to write a book, but I never have time to do so. I have no time to do anything I love - I have to write essays, tests, worksheets about things I don't care about. Now to open MS Word brings a tsunami of anxiety down upon me when I want to work on my passion project. My mind is mush by the end of the day, and I can't do it anymore... it's disheartening.

  76. M.... M....

People still need to get marketable skills or they will starve

  77. S.... C....

One thing is to look at education from teachers perspective. This is forbidden stuff these modern times. This is like asking the factory to produce good products without asking the workers. People like these add to the problem since these are subtle attacks on teaching professions.

  78. S.... C....

We all agree about the Finnish model of education. The problem is that the politicians like him promote the idea but when actually the time come to pass the budget they will opt for some construction projects which will get them more votes. People beware that this is what is going on. So the conclusions are the same: the teachers are the problem. They don't say it but this is transferred to the population. This is why the teachers are sick and tired of all these talks.

Education is learning "HOW" to think. Schooling teaches students "WHAT" to think. Indoctrination has been the MO of public education for many years.

  93. C.... F....

Sir Ken should have been a professional comedian. Brilliant stuff. But on the question of education, why is it that 'The Law' is not a subject at school? Innorance of the law is apparently no defence if you end up in court, and yet no one is taught what you can or cannot do. Very strange.

It all goes in our subconscious.
99% of everything, we do is automatic. It is important in the process of learning. Unconscious knowledgeable.

  98. R.... a....

Do school kills creativity?yes,a school where it is so academically focused, where you are being taught to be the best rather than doing your best, where grades and certificates are everything, where you're being compete to get an A,where we focus more on competition instead of collaboration-let's take example from countries like finland
