Against Me! - Even At Our Worst We're Still Better Than Most (The Roller) Lyrics

You can have it all, I ain't got the heart to fight, no.
Total exhaustion, complete breakdown. For the asshole I am,
apologies in full, please leave me alone.
Pull over the van, let me out.

And we'll give the money back, to the record label.
Fire the agent, fire the manager.
We ain't got what it takes, to make it.
We got indifference, got no respect for them.
Feels like you already said so much,
feels like you can never say enough.
Let someone else take our place,
let them be your entertainment.

You know they're waiting,
(you know they're waiting)
You know they're waiting,
(you know they're waiting)
You know they're waiting,
(they're just waiting)
To tear us apart

You know they're waiting,
(you know they're waiting)
You know they're waiting,
(you know they're waiting)
You know they're waiting,
(they're just waiting.)
To tear us apart

    this song should always be followed by Problems

  2. K.... B....

    They started hetting shit about "selling out" when they put albums out on Fat Wreck Chords. Laura told a stoey about right after putting their first album out with Fat how "fans" physically tried to stop one of their shows and slashed their tires. Then months had a confrontation with the person who did and one of their friends was going to use a brick as a weapon. He realized then what a joke the scene was.

    K.... B....

    it didn't help that half of there early songs are about not selling out...

  3. M.... R....

    well that's more or less exactly what i needed to hear.

  4. V.... S....

    Obligatory can't we just enjoy the music here! Woke up with the lyrics stuck in my head, but I couldn't remember the track title. Praise the sun for google.

    Probably one of my favourites by Against Me!

  8. a.... ....

    I love how people bitch about this album...It always makes it funnier when I announce that I thiink that this may be the best album ever created/produced. Don't get me wrong, it's not my favorite album ever...but it's fuckin' brilliant.

  9. b.... h....

    you can have it allll

  10. h.... ....

    Their music is of course different now, but not very good? Please tell me you're joking. Listen to the song Black Me Out and tell me how that isn't good. Against Me! is incredible.

  11. P.... V....

    That is bullshit, I have seen them back then all the way to seeing them in 2011 last. They played some small ass bar in Munich. A buddy and I drove like 3 hours to catch this show planning to buy tickets at the door, sold out. So we were kinda f'd out we saw Andrew outside and started talking to him. Through some casual conversation we brought up our problem and he was like ''no problem I got you guys''I am sure this is not unheard of but still pretty rad. They are still the same band just older

  12. T.... L....

    Against She

  13. Z.... ....

    I happen to love the evolution of Against Me! and Tom Gable himself. They have grown as people and as artists and you can hear and feel it in their music. Their music stands for something.

    I <3 AM!

  14. K.... ....

    @Heyjude702 So you mean to say that being an anarchist band that sings about anarchist ideals and hating capitalism and american politics to death, signs to a major label for a little bit and sucks their dicks nice and good for a piece of the very good ol' american capitalism that they got all their fans by hating. And that isn't selling out?? I mean I love them and all but maybe this should be considered for what it really is, a completely different band that deserves a new name and franchise.

  15. s.... ....

    @JOINorDIE2010 Nobody cares, man.

  16. D.... P....

    @JOINorDIE2010 Fuck everyone of these people that have no clue about anarchy and are trying to preach it to me or anyone else! Anarchy is a personal choice that i follow but i don't own up to the label because true anarchism is about not following any flag but your own. so i agree with you 100%

  17. s.... ....

    @juicemofo this song makes me want to quit my job

  18. j.... ....

    This might be one of my favorite Against Me! songs. Put simply and broadly I see it as being about losing faith in whatever you currently find yourself doing.

  19. L.... H....

    @paulhenry1982 It doesn't, that's kind of the point :P But perhaps "conservatism" would have fit better in context?

  20. M.... S....

    i really love this shiit

  21. R.... ....

    I seminate to this song.

  22. M.... ....

    @yevgander not completely true, friend of mine wants money as a last ditch form of payment, usually preferring a place to crash, food, or cds

  23. Y.... g....

    @Mccampbellthomas
    to be in a band and say that you dont want to make money is complete bullshit.
    rent has to be paid and food must be put on the table.
    :)

    Y.... g....

    I think there's something you're failing to comprehend about punk ethos. In theory punk music derives it's sincerity from inprofitabilty vis a vis if you have profit in mind then that will affect what you say with your music but if you disregard profitabilty what you say with your music will be more sincere. In practice food needs to be put on the table and that gets taken care of somehow or another but the core tenant of sincerity by disregarding profit is always there informing a punk musician's way of life.

  24. M.... ....

    @Heyjude702 oh they did it for money and yes they sold out, i asked warren himself, claims its the whole reason he quit. they didn't change for the right reasons, they changed for a little more money in pocket, they're complete bastards. they don't leave a label, they abandon them. so don't give me shit when you don't know what you're talking about, i've known what i'm talking about ever since i've met warren, chris clavin, and fat mike.

  25. L.... H....

    @Mccampbellthomas As long as the change for the right reasons, it's their choice and they have the right to tell everyone else to go fuck themselves. If they did it for themselves, their music, or their beliefs, and not just for money, they have my support. Also, you wouldn't catch anything with even a mildly political undertone on a popstation. It involves too much thinking for modern day Americans.

  26. M.... ....

    @Heyjude702 its extremely shitty, i feel i might hear it if i turned to a pop station. and yes, you can blame em for changing, they're magnanimous douchewaffles, look what happened with plan-it-x! plus yea, nonetheless you can blame em for changing, i mean lawrence arms still sounds pretty much the same, they just share the vocals more.

  27. L.... H....

    @Mccampbellthomas The new stuff isn't "shitty", it's different in comparison to the old stuff...which fans of the raw, old Against Me! might consider shitty. I don't think it's exceptionally horrible. We'll never get out old band back, but I can't blame them for changing.

  28. M.... ....

    @Heyjude702 doesn't make the new stuff any less shitty lol

  29. s.... ....

    @shnot93

    I remember that feeling. Its spectacular

  30. L.... H....

    @ColourCodedQuotes Every punk band becomes sell outs, and I agree, I believe he knew it. Because like it or not, you can't be an angry thrashing teenager forever. You just can't. When you get to a certain age, songs about theoretical utoias and riots don't have the same effect, and the rest of your generation leaves you behind. Tom moved into a stage where he cares more about "the big picture" and modern day issues than he does about anarchist philosophy.

  31. A.... C....

    @Heyjude702
    I completely agree with you. But this entire album is about Tom sorting out the decision of what direction to go in. Just look at the songs. "Searching for a Former Clarity" can be interpreted many ways, from being about Tom "coming out", to selling out (The disease = selling out), to being about Freddie Mercury. "Don't Lose Touch", I think that's pretty obvious. Same with "Unprotected Sex...". I think Tom knew Against Me! would be labeled as sell outs, but they didn't sell out.

  32. j.... ....

    @Proleisa5 fucking here here! jealousy is a terrible thing, it all most makes you wonder if making beautiful music such as this is even worth it as most people find some ignorant reason to dislike it

  33. t.... e....

    i just started listening to this band and i find a new fav. song evry 6 minutes there awsome

  34. M.... V....

    My thought exactly! They only changed Label because they wanted more people to hear their music. And that's not selling out. I know you didn't say they're sellouts, that was targeted at the who did :)

  35. L.... H....

    Bands have to change. It's the natural flow of musical progression. Considering most musicians start out young, their experiences mold and shape and change their outlooks and style. A band can evolve and not sell out, although most people can't recognize the difference. Selling out would be if they start spreading messages about communism or loving the government. Quit bitching and listen

  36. P.... ....

    @outstandingwarrents

    Firstly, punctuation is your friend.
    Secondly, punctuation is your friend.
    Thirdly, Lots of people say "Ever since they changed labels the new stuff sucks" but care to define how it's different or sucky relative to the new stuff aside from the label change? Just out of curiosity, I like the old stuff AND the new stuff, and don't really think any period is better or worse, some songs are better, some are worse, personally.

  37. P.... ....

    @mindgame554
    Would you think the music was bad if they hadn't switched labels?

  38. X.... ....

    James should totally do a solo album as a singer.

  39. X.... ....

    I love how AM! fans can be so incredibly different... but in a way, we are all the same.

  40. J.... B....

    This is a pretty good song,
    But their new stuff cant even compare to their albums like Eternal Cowboy and Searching for a former clarity

  41. m.... ....

    my fave against me song. thanks man.

  42. m.... ....

    their new shit sucks, its not about selling out its about the music just being bad

  43. T.... R....

    I always took this song to be about the big labels wining and dining them during this period and how it's suffocating.

  44. M.... ....

    just because a band wants to change and spread their sound does not make them sell outs. they change their sound anyways, thats why its still not tom gabel on a guitar singing at open mic nights

  45. m.... ....

    i wish it were possible to marry a song...

    jk jk

    somewhat....

  46. d.... ....

    Mostly because even at our worst we're still better than most is a notoriously vague bunch of very commonly used words to search for :\
