Afterimage, The - Pathogen Lyrics

We're all forgotten
We're all forgotten

Enveloping my mind in a wasteland of suspicion
Compassion twisted and defiled leaving only hatred
I'm fastened in by the chains of discontent
I'm fastened in by these fucking chains

White walls closing in
White walls closing in on me

I'm growing weary of the front that I've established for myself
I'm resenting anyone who begins to assume they can know for themselves
I don't care about them and I'm unmindful of the infection of those who rely on sentiments
I never cared about them

Carefully calculated explanations
(I don't need them)
Dismissing errors of emotion

I choose to regard them for who and what they are
They are nothing but a fabrication
They never meant a thing to me

Just an illusion
A distortion of the senses
Just an illusion
A distortion of the senses

I'm growing weary of the front I've established for myself
For myself, now

As I progress I've watched the things I've been taught
Decay and fall to pieces
Right in front of me
I'll never be the same again

I'm fastened in by the chains of discontent
I'm fastened in by these fucking chains

White walls closing in
White walls closing in on me

We're all forgotten
We are all forgotten

The air is filled with the foul stench of death

    Tyler B

Did i just see an actual discussion on youtube?
    the fuck

    Jeremiah Funke

@David Saul's If you don't like it then don't listen to it. In your 16 years of playing music have you ever realized that they are still learning? They sound pretty original to me. the guitar work is wild and so are the drums. Let them get it down and they'll make even better music as they keep practicing.... they are signed and have more views on youtube than you do lol

    Ybwyn

@David Saul's I can see not liking it from and outside perspective I guess. It has a lot of very harsh transitions from super mathy riffs to gorgeous bouncy ones. If you aren't used to listening to intense and intricate guitars it can sound like one hell of a mess.

    izzomctorro

That conversation ended up surprisingly wholesome?

  20. TheQueenMedic

  51. Daniel McClure

  52. Bazz27

I'm sure most of you have heard of Reflections, but if not, check them out. They remind me a lot of these guys.

  53. Walker Hobbs

Who's cares its sick as fuck

  54. Walker Hobbs

    Sick breakdown:0

  55. Jacob Miller

I think its also a bit diminished and harmonized a half-step up. which josh travis (who I think may have been the first person to do that type of stuff but don't hold me to it) uses a modulation pedal. so I can see why hed think that.

  56. Even Marea

Hahaha lets face it, in this kind of music, WE ALL are a little overly critical.. and we easily go defensive :P

  57. Soy Sauce

I never said anything about them not being talented, nor did I go out of my way to bring that up. If someone hadn't commented, I probably would've never said anything regarding that section. Not to mention I already invalidated my comment when I was listening to the old Periphery album and realized that there was another riff that sounded almost identical haha. I realize I perhaps being a little overly critical.

  58. Even Marea

WHAT THE FUCK? Are you seriously calling a 9 seconds riff plagiarism? It is barely a riff, it is more like a rythmic arrangement that sounds a bit similar to volumes. Besides that, who could copy something as simple as that riff? Please take a second and think how talented and unique this guys are

  59. Nic Mower

it's just a fast, chromatic pattern.

  60. LA TONE

    modulation pedal

  61. Jacob Miller

by that theory, are you gunna say the riff at 2:10 is a rip off of flourish? no.

  62. Jacob Miller

their different. generally when bands do the off key dissonant thing like that they tap it. (Zyglrox, The walk, Josh Travis does it alot) but this riff is picked and its some combo of tremelo picking some notes and just picking other ones. its really interesting actually.

  63. dawnofspiritualawakening

    really? not even in 'periphery-zyglrox'?

  64. Devin Love

That was fucking sick. And I mean that in a good way.

    Holy shit that was great.

  65. Davey Hill

    it's not fair.

  66. iIZgiraffe

    RIGHT DOE?!

  67. TheAfterimageCA

Interesting find! However, we don't even listen to that band. Thanks for listening though! :)

  68. Soy Sauce

You don't need to copy a document word for word in order for it to be plagiarism; that same principle applies here. According to your logic, I should just completely rip-off all of Monuments' unfathomably sick riffs and change a note here and there and I'm golden. Yeah, that wouldn't stealing an idea or anything.

  69. Soy Sauce

If that part simply sounded just like a bunch of 0's to you, then idk an explanation would even be worth giving. You have to pay attention to the context in which it's used. They at least doubled the snare hits, but nonetheless, I recognized it instantly upon hearing the part. Trust me, I'm not some riff nazi, nor was I bashing this band, but I thought it was obvious.

  70. Marcus J.

Are you serious. You're gonna take a series of 0's and say that another band did it?
    Well shit.
There goes almost every metal song ever created.

  71. Soy Sauce

funny, Volumes already wrote that riff 2 years ago.

  72. Soy Sauce

Then you've obviously never heard of Josh Travis.

  73. puny74

  77. Nathan Piliponis

  80. Open Your Eyes

Iwrestleabearonce do similar sorts of riffs sometimes. But that band isn't really to everyone's tastes according to all the hate they get.

  81. Charles Toshio

You've never heard of Ion Dissonance, The Dillinger Escape Plan or The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza?

  82. GodForbid

Sound's like tapping on high frets of guitar randomly but still epic :D

Thanks, friend. Born of Osiris is the shit too. So, that's a big plus in my book.

  87. Zach England

The intro vocals sounded like Born of Osiris.

  88. Rob

I was listening, thinking yeah this is pretty standard. Then at 00:12 my eyes just popped right the fuck out of their sockets.

  89. Jared Shapiro

Check out Brain Drill or Psyopus, they get pretty similar to it

  90. TheAfterimageCA

That's exactly how we write all of our music!!! No thought process at all, just copy and paste!!!

  91. InsideAlive

Hit a bunch of random notes, copy past that for 4 measures. Yeah..

  92. MajorPonch

I'm with you. I hate the internet.

  93. KINGPORTH

Well I apologize for offending you, but it would take somebody with low common sense to not understand why I called him that......not that I'm saying you have no common sense (no offence)

  94. KINGPORTH

Dude, lighten up. I'm not attacking any group of people at all. I'm simply giving someone a taste of their own medicine. No hate towards any group or race of people

  95. KINGPORTH

I'm not racist, I'm only sticking up for the kid he called an emo faggot. He had it coming
