AFI - The Sinking Night Lyrics

Blackness drips down from both of my hands
The gold in my palm was mistaken for sand
Can you feel it?

The blackness it drips down from both of my eyes
The sand that you made has taken my sight
I can feel it

Over the wind
Under the rain
Out of the chaos
I can hear your name
Through the sinking night
On this sinking night
I see your face
(On this sinking night)
On this sinking night

AFI The Sinking Night Comments

Just heard this song a month ago. Allow me to add 100+ views!

  2. Nada Mas

Two types of AFi. 1. Nitro days. 2. New age AFI. Davey has expressed his influences in several albums. One of which is The Art of Drowning (Danzig) and Burials (The Cure) their ability to be transparent and not follow past albums makes them unique IMO.

Nada Mas don’t forget Crash Love (Morrissey), confirmed by Davey himself when I met him in 2009. “I’m getting Morrissey and The Smiths vibes, am I right?” “Absolutely, we love The Smiths.”

  3. Tony carbone

I really like this song, it was played the day on my brother's funeral back in 2013

I absolutely love this intro. It gave me such a shiver down my spine when I first listened to the album. Davey sounds absolutely incredible on this track.

  6. theNineCorners

So like a phoenix rising from the ashes. This is my favourite type of AFI.

  7. A Fire Inside

Perfect way to set the album's tone. Deep, Cold, and depressing. This is what Burials really sounds like.

  8. Natalia

They were stupid to only let this be an intro instead of releasing the full version

  9. Last Anunnaki

Reminds me when my back sunk.

  10. Dahvie Vanity

    horrid band

    A Fire Inside

    Your grammar is horrible*

    No One

+American Pharoah Look at their user picture. Need I say more?

    Fabulous Killjoy

    Then leave

Dahvie Vanity fuck outta here with your pedo-worshipping fakeass Dahvie. 🖕🏻🖕🏻

  11. AmericanMetalhead100

I miss the Sing the Sorrow/Art of Drowning days.  This is the best song off the album and quite frankly only 1 of 2 worthwhile songs off it.

  12. iStarlyTV

I think Burials as a whole was a great album. Minus 'Greater Than 84'. That's one of the very few AFI songs I could live without.

    iMaIwYzTrlGGAhApY

I feel very much the same, but with Heart Stops being that song for me. Overall, Burials feels like the first album since STS that truly belonged in AFI'a catalog

  13. Cordelia L.

    another side of davey....

     excellent.

  14. badnew

one of the best first songs on an album. immediately sets the tone and is awesome in itself

  15. gearzdesign

I always liked AFI, I wasn't a *huge* fan of theirs, but I did enjoy their music. This new album they've done is simply amazing. An artist can't be expected to remain the same as they grow, learn and change. It's only selfish for a "fan" of a band to expect the same thing, over and over again.

  16. FliffinsOfDoom

Sounds a lot like Davey and Jade's Blaqk Audio stuff to be honest haha

    Tanya Y

Agreed, I had the same observation

    theNineCorners

+ZellyRawr - That would make it better for me. lol. BA & AFI as a mix is what they should've done from the beginning.

    silentcatalyst

FliffinsOfDoom no way. Blaqk Audio isn’t necessarily industrial although they’re electronic. Burials is one of my favorites, whereas Blaqk Audio fell off the radar after CexCells to me lol

  17. Neek

    BAD ASS! >:)

  18. Jimminy Crickets

    TOOL much!?

  19. angie nonya

absolutely love this album! im so glad they came with a comeback. i used to be obsessed with them 3 years ago and still am. im so freaking happy they made this album. its amazing!!<3

  20. ONYX

    AFI is still making music?

  21. a person on the internet

I have strong, mostly negative, feelings about remixes made by people outside the original creator(s)...it feels like sacrilege, in a way, messing with someone else's art. But if the band themselves approved it? *shrug* Yeah, people will always nitpick and complain...hence the term unpleasable fanbase.

  22. brady

Yeah. But Linkin Park came out with a remix album just recently, and people are going crazy about it. Basically it was a remix album from their previous studio, which was mostly done by other DJs (excluding 2 tracks done by a member of the band). Featuring mostly EDM tracks, people hated it. Though a lot of people are too blind to see that other DJs made the remixes and it hadn't taken years of collaborative effort to make. But they managed to find something to complain about, so they complained

  23. a person on the internet

I don't listen to Linkin Park, so I wouldn't know. But I've seen some shitty reviews for Burials (it's outrageous, really, they often don't even say WHY they think it's bad, just the equivalent of 'lol this sucks')... I get that change can be jarring, but I think AFI fans go overboard. ;P The complaints tend to die down...everyone declared CL the shittiest thing ever, but it has its fans now (I like it personally), but yeah, Burials kicks ass. It's not perfect, but pretty fucking awesome.

  24. brady

I think it's people's instincts to complain about change. Just look at the most critical reviews for Linkin Park's newer albums, it's hard to see all of those stupid, idiotic, ignorant reviews. Coming from someone who is trying to widen the amount of music I listen to, this album is pretty damn good.

  25. ashley marian

Anyone who says this album is shit is insane. This is the best thing they've ever done. So. Breathtaking. Dramatic and epic and profound. Could not have asked for more. In love.

  26. Heather Noelle

As much as I am against the remake of the film The Crow, I can;t help but think this would be perfect for it!

  27. a person on the internet

Every new album, there's always complaints. There always will be...music fans are unpleasable. Not enough change, they complain. Too much change, they complain. I like this. :) Not listened to the rest of the new album yet, but this is good.

  28. Dan Arena

"The Face Beneath The Waves" is a decent song as well. But I agree, the album should have been more like this song. It's so good.

  29. CAPTAINDEGENERATIONX

This and I hope you suffer were the only good rock songs, the rest was meh

  30. lasdla

    Gorgeous intro!!! Fantastic!

  31. Slim Dopamine

    I fucking dig it
