AFI - Malleus Maleficarum Lyrics
Open my eyes as I submerge and I won't deny what I've been since birth.
I'll die drowned by your standards.
Breathe in the life of the summmer's death as the orange and red breathe their first breath,
so welcome as they're burning through. We all begin to burn.
Autumn's flame dance's in my eyes Set alight for all we've learned.
I'm honored by your hatred. Leaves fall we arise again, and the end impending, it will begin.
So welcome as it's burning through. Ashes fall and I'm rising up again.
Ashes fall. Ashes fall. Ashes fall as we all arise.

AFI Malleus Maleficarum Comments
[Verse 1]
Open my eyes as I submerge
And I won't deny what I've been since birth
I'll die drowned by your standards
Breathe in the life of the summer's death
As the orange and red breathe their first breath
So welcome as they're burning through
[Chorus]
We all begin to burn
Autumn's flame dances in my eyes
Set alight for all we've learned
My ashes falling
[Verse 2]
My skin is singed but it heals my heart
And with glowing pride I'll wear my scars
Honored by your hatred
Leaves fall, we arise again
And the end impending, it will begin
So welcome as it's burning through
[Chorus]
We all begin to burn
Autumn's flame dances in my eyes
Set alight for all we've learned
My ashes falling, can you feel me?
[Bridge]
Ashes fall when I'm rising up again
Ashes fall when I'm rising up again
Ashes fall when I'm rising up again
Ashes fall when I'm rising up again
Ashes fall when I'm rising up again
Ashes fall when I'm rising up again
Ashes fall when I'm rising up again
Ashes fall, ashes fall
Fall, fall
Ashes fall
As we all
Arise
[Chorus]
We all begin to burn
Autumn's flame dances in my eyes
Set alight for all we've learned
My ashes falling, can you feel me?
Prefect band for this thing we call Fall!
Back from a time before quantising and autotune sucked the life out of punk rock.
P U S H
Never forget your original fans made you who you are and gave you the life you live.... Disturbed had over 100million views on sound of silence, Dude can sing! But id put money on it he's not going to change his music and try and gain that new audience, He will stick with his fans and maybe put out a song or 2 like sound of silence in his new albums for those "New" fans.
Think about it.. Disturbed can pull a AFI rite now and gain 30% more fans but doing so they would have to spit on their old fans who still are rocking out to them every day.
Mike ness did not need to change his punk ways in order to play love songs....
People grow, and their music grows with them. Deal with it.
This is a musical grimoire, enchanting and beautious.
Perfection.
When i was a kid i found this band based on cover art
Been a fan since 2003. Still trying to learn all of the lyrics of their older stuff. Wish I had grown up with their older stuff and had known more lyrics for this song. They just played this live on the 25th of September and it was amazing! <3
Greatest song of all time.
Commenting in 2018.
Been a fan since 2001
We have a song with same name :)
Rock n' roll Karay.
My fav AFI album!!!!
ukiah bands good
Tobin Steiskal
This is the very first song they wrote with the current lineup. Amazing.
Fuck people saying this suck, and it's not music. This is music, country music is bullshit, and has no talent.
No music sucks. Musicians suck. If you love your craft, you are doing it right, and people will return that love.
also i met davey in pomona and he was super nice so it didn't go to there heads or nothing
ya know i don't really like anything much after sing the sorrow from them but i dont criticize them for changing, Siouxsie and the banshees and The Damned changed and it was awesome , i hate it more when bands keep playing the same 4 punk chords and they're fucking 40, Punk Rock was there catalyst and then they got better and there music evolved
horror music ... like black sabbath ☺!
wrong, the suck so much now..I'm not mad at them though, they decided to sell out so they can make a living. I can respect that.
Jerry Jiron . They didn't sell out, nor do they suck, they are very talented and diverse unlike all these other bullshit bands.

Wrong lyrics
A classic right here!
fuck I love this album!
Can you feel me?
GOOOO!!!
Whoa ohhh ho!
The Hammer of Witches!
Who the fuck are the "Offspring"?
+Neurotripsicks both good bands The offspring kills it live. seen alot of bands live and my favorite live bands were offspring and pennywise. both kill it live. the old stuff
GO WHOOOOAAAA!
Haven't listened to this album in 16 years until right now... damn, this shit sucks. What the fuck was I thinking when I liked this band? I must have been tone deaf when I was a kid.
Alright I'll give it to you. You're a smart dude. That being said, does your career make you happy? Does it pay you well? I can't imagine being even mildly interested in any of the shit you just spewed about, so it must pay you out the ass. Kudos to you if you feel differently.
@rmann002 I'm retired.
Same here but I still like it!
This is gold bro!
I heartily disagree, AFI is one of the few Horror Punk/Hardcore Punk bands that actually knows how to write music that is more than LOUD NOISSESSSS. I can't stand anything past Sing the Sorrow.
It's amazing how a band that was so heavy in a punk way could become the pop rock stars they are now. such huge differences from album to album, and that's what makes them great to me!
You don't make sense? All music is good, but punk rock is awesome!!!!!!!!!
Very true. I can hear the influence that would later become Art of Drowning and their later works.
The unseen blood for blood music grows as the artists evolve been blaring AFI since 01 the harmony they have is 2nd to none
one of my favourit ever
when a hear the first riff I switcht myself out of this world
the title of this song translated into English means "witch's hammer". pretty cool.
"The Hammer of the Witch" to be exact. And did you know this was the first song Jade Puget wrote with AFI? :)
Yes. It is the title of a book from 1487 describing witchcraft and its effects on society. Quite an interesting read. :)
The book was a catalyst in the genesis of the witch hunts where thousands of women were tortured and killed....
I respect new AFI and listen to them, but they are nowhere near as amazing as when they were like this. Always my favorite.
this song is fucking awesome right now
ALL their albums...each and every one, sound different from the last (with the exception of singles), and each one is uniquely good...they still rock...not too much my style anymore, but they're still good!
Anyways, got lyrics from this song tattooed on my arm, truly amazing song. one of my favourite AFI songs.
Sammy Havok I wanted "ashes fall as we all arise" tattooed on my arm for as long as i can remember
AFI never 'sucked' or 'went off the rails'. They just don't play music of your personal taste now. They have more influences than hardcore punk bands; Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Moz, The Cure, NIN... just to name a few. Don't like their newer music? Don't listen, and quit fucking bitching about it. After all, they aren't writing music for YOU. And if they did, that WOULD be selling out. Screw you haters.
@Joe Molloy seems to be you think selling out is "getting big?" .. So please, explain The Ramones.
not at all. selling out is when you trade in the values that gave you an initial fan base for money and overproduction. the ramones never sold out, they stayed true. AFI however went from horror punk to alternative pop rock?
They didn't do it for money though, they did it because that's the kind of music they wanted to play.
Um.. the ramones added keyboards to their music later on. I wouldn't call that sticking to their roots to be honest.
This is the first time I've listened to anything by them prior to Art of Drowning. I've heard everything after that, love it all, and I've finally done like I've been planning, sat down to listen to everything before. I like what I've heard so far, halfway through this album, then I'll go even further back. :) (I really can't think of a single song by them that I dislike, really....)
nah they sold out hard and its so transparent. you call going from nitro records to changing to dreamworks records, and changing your whole style and music instantly just experimenting? no somethings up obviously... and its not just afi, other bands did it also.
bad ass song!
you need to learn that just because you like something, it doesn't mean everyone does
*shrug* wouldn't be the first AFI one that was incoherent at best. Still, by far one of my favorites.
Definitely their prime album.
Id love you to write about decomposing bodies and mutilation maybe then youd see how fucking hard it is to maintain craziness unless your just posing yourself into being loved not everyone can write like this you needs guts and a twisted mind and to maintain that I don't think you could last for a couple years writing like this
This is definitely my favorite album by them
lol actually cannibal is pretty melodic
No, that's just Cannibal Corpse. They don't count.
I can only appreciate this song in the context that my closest friend lit himself on fire 08/11/03, this was his favorite song. He lit himself on fire, inhaled the vaporous flame, ran up to his home and died at the burn clinic hours later due to ruination of the lungs. Ruined my life, yet kept me and a few others alive and removed that option.
What happened?
Ashes fall then I'm rising up again...
It doesn't matter when it was written, still retarded. That's like saying "You can't judge Christianity because the bible was written a long time ago" doesn't matter, it's still fucking stupid.
...you must have a reading disorder. Why are you responding to a post from 10 months ago? You're a waste of life.
...you must listen to some shitty punk.
My favorite track from Black Sails. :)
probaly gay metal
Aren't all the members vegetarian or vegans?
I wonder if you know anything about this band haha
GO. WOAAAAAHHHAAAAAAOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO.... GO!
I wonder if they know the truth meaning of the treatise Malleus Maleficarum...
gives me goose bumps this song, so amped
man, I understand death metal lyrics better than this. Still a good song though
I've been around since 1999 and I like all of their songs i don't care if you don't understand what Davey Havok is saying you don't like it then you don't like it you don't have to make fun of his music because you don't understand what he is saying. what MrFahqup said stfu,
mother fuckers
I heard "fall," "we are," and "the"
And "woah" a few times
No way dude! How'd you know
Man, they went from this... to Crash Love of all things? I mean, if you like it, alright, but... it's just a shame to me.
But if they really listened, it still sounds like good old AFI, they still have the homey touches of they're sound. December Underground was fantastic, it's so appetizing to the ears, very different from they're usual shit like this album for instance, or they're All Hollows EP. jUST ALL IN ALL, all of us AFI fans should be glad they STILL make music with the original members. I know I am.
Like if your parents hate it that you listen to AFI.
Please dont say people "arent true AFI fans" just because they dont like their new music. I loved this fucking band, and they changed their music completely. I'm not saying its bad, but its certainly toned down. So if you started with their new music and you liked it, great. Good for you. Now please stfu because they've been around since 1991, and if you started listening in 2003, you dont know what you are talking about.
blah in the laaahhh of da orrran nnn ann raaahhhhh
...what did i spell wrong? haha, and recognition doesn't mean the music is good.
What the fuck kind of metal are you listening to?
alright fitzgerald, internet tuffguy, go listen to miss murder.
maybe the lyrics arent important in metal, but they are most definitely important in punk, i don't know what the fuck punk you've been listening too but punk bands usually have an actual message and voice their opinion(bands like the dead kennedys, the adicts, dropdead, have heart, verse. the list goes on and on). i've heard a couple metal songs that have truly actually evoked emotions from me, lyric wise. no i'm not saying anyone can do it, idiot, read!!! i said anyone can WRITE LYRICS to it.
Punk and metal musicians' lyrics are all crap because no one can understand them. And who cares? The lyrics aren't what's important about metal and punk, at least not for me. And you think anyone can do blast beats and sweeps? You're kidding right?
They didn't name it after the Pestilence album, it's a German thing about witches from like six hundred years ago. Pretty sure it's common domain by now, anyone could use it. That being said, I can't understand a word of this song either, and anyone who says they can is a damn liar.
Thank you! I hate that shit!
You miss the point of self-expression. Some play flashy scales, while others musically exorcise their demons. Besides, most people relate better to catchy hooks and familiar sounds than being inundated with the buzzing of a bee colony(majority of metal solos). AFI have paid their dues. Have you? You're probably angry because your favorite group of unwashed nerds plays obscure scales to crowds of twenty for drink tickets. If they played music that made others feel good that wouldn't be so.
People who spell using "u" and "ur" and "wat" really don't have any room to call people stupid.
yeah but most punk musicians put heart and soul into their music and lyrics. thats what makes it truly diverse from metal. anyone can write a song about decapitating kids and stuffing them into corners while you dismember their decomposing bodies, in the tune of blast beats and sweeps.
LMAO!!!! DUDE!!! ME TOO!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!
@MegaPadgett Go whoa oh?
@ExNoctemNacimur I know, I know. Ok you guys, I thought it would be funny...
@513986916 No, it's really not . . . for satanic stuff, listen to black metal
@m00perz haha, tell him that. dude routinely represents for bands like the Descendents.
@513986916 totally.
@thebaconflapsable AFI, Very Proud Of Ya!, Answer That And Stay Fashionable, Shut Your Mouth & Open Your Eyes, Black Sails the Sunset, The Art of Drowning, All Hallow's Eve EP. The Days of a Phoenix EP, Sing For Sorrow, DecemberUnderground, I Heard a Voice (a live album) and Crash Love are the ones I know.
@513986916
lolwat!?
This is satanic.
how many albums have these guys got i want to start from the begining and end with crash love
idra anyone? :)
I like their older hardcore stuff better. This is okay, too.
Fuck you guys! You call yourselves "punks?" "Real AFI fans?" So many of you just shit on AFI's new stuff because you want people to think you're so "hardcore," and so underground and cool. You're not. You're posers. Fakers. If you don't care for the new stuff? That's cool, just don't bitch about it to make yourself look more credible. I fucking love new and old AFI, and not everything I listen to is "hardcore." But that doesn't make me better than you. So can it, bitches!
I am from a small town. I am 28 years old now. I discovered punk rock thru the internet "Answer That" was the first album I bought because I had heard of them thru the Nitro Label. I went to warped tour and bought art of drowning there. Ever since then I have loved all their albums
@FeelingFreshSon they might be giants is my favorite band, afi comes in second
listen to the first two albums...
@m00perz WHAT! :O
Davey Havok hates punk rock these days!
@andrewh817 The only possible problem is: Would anybody who actually *likes* that kind of music take a band that went backwards seriously?
