Aesop Rock - We're Famous Lyrics

[El-P]
I brought that genuine shit in '96
Before you knew the underground or independent existed
I watched the whole scene straight jump on the dick
After stepping to KCR lit and flexing my shit
No gun talk, no gimmicks, just rounds of raw-dogging
Dirty dusty intelligent wit and word murdering
A hardcore poetic informed without burglary
Potent and shook the shit out of rappers who just learned of me
Everytime I prescribe a new pill, revolution
Quickly defined the standard for indie rap distribution
Arrogant unafraid shit developed riding a train thinking of brain fucks
"Bad Touch Example" that soon became bucks
Had everybody sprung wondering where I came from
Screaming out "Independent as fuck" with an insane tongue
With an indelible squad of design monsters
Innovating the styles that made biters look like imposters
So we scripted an album and signed to Rawkus
Selling a hundred thousand without a radio chart hit
Imposterous sonics taking the world hostage
Classic hip-hop bombage dirty with style progress
Now I've come from the '80s juvenile Brooklyn
Where cats was like: "Gimme that subway pass, kid. Good lookin."
Now someone else is taking a ride with what's mine
So I had to develop styles with a death device cooked in
So when I battled in basements I had eight sentences
Waiting way before the four you had laced in
And I was taught to wait patient (Why?)
Only faggots make shit up just to get famous
So when I finally blew up I remained sick
Earning respect in ghettos and 'burbs for word placement
Back when the independent scene remained faceless
We were the only crew who promised your ass we'd take it
Mold it, shape it, living outside the matrix
Hold it, make it, more than miniature major labels
Hold it sacred, living it for the culture
Told ya plainly, protected it from the vultures
That's why I always get respect from true soldiers
While half of the critics claim it every year: "Hip hop's over."
FUCK YOU, hip hop just started
It's funny how the most nostalgic cats are the ones who were never part of it
But true veterans'll give dap to those who started it
Then humbly move the fuck on and come with that new retarded shit
New slang, new thought, new sound
Who's heart you thought you had?
You clown, you don't, you drown
I won't dumb it down, I'm dumbing now for these rounds
I'm a live mothefucker plus I'm gunning for clowns
You're mine motherfucker, don't be coming for pounds
So you can break out of that invisible box, you're not down
My favorite ones are the ones who started that young rap about
Comic books, spaceships, and Obi-Quan one
And even though they were soft they had fun
But they couldn't break out the frame of the town they came from
Some of these faggots used to send me their demos
I'm keeping their puppy styles in the Company Flow kennels
But since they had no identity from the start
They started to resent the scene when they couldn't become a part
They've been failing for years and call themselves Vets, that's bold
Motherfucker, you're not a Vet you're just old
I'll slap the shit out of you to continue my nerve racket
Making this money fist over fist, fuck what you heard
Jukie cats talk about boom bap and golden ages
Patting themselves on the back for making that new outdated shit
I've been putting out vinyl since '93 and never looked back once
And ya'll trying to chase me
You don't innovate because you can't innovate
It's not a choice despite what you might tell your boys
Keep your identity crisis under the table
I always knew who I was and I'll always be more famous

Leave the last CE-Offer crabs and buy them Hatorade
Dig it, daddy dug his own tunnel under the gutters where the numbers bleed
Hunters froze up and exposed Rapunzel weeds
Tugboat, tug up through that brutal dirt first
The fuedals fuming oodles, it was right under your poodle skirt
Welcome to Bazooka Works, halogen halo eyesore
The revolution will not be apologized for
Warbucks exlex megaphone on the fashion piggy pageant
While my dick's raw-dogging a style magnet
Fraggle rock your four figure watch
I clock ninety-nine cent wristbands
And still know the time when you record flops
Now this is on a sick with it factor
Exhibit A, E, F, Genesis of the klepto reactor
Wanna burgle the buzz over definitive cash
After a life of labor camps starts paying innovators back
Baby, you ain't felt the collective? (Coooool)
Stop running bases with little bears under the wing of punchdrunk butter makers
That engine sputters while the hound dogs wire cutter mechanical rabbit
Bantam weight puppies ain't rabid enough to snatch him
Pockmark ninety Moses approach with a golden focal point
Come soak in it, resume sturdy composer soldier bliss
Wrong name by a molar can often expose your phobias
Watch a cobra grow hands to hold his own tongue when he notices
All city legity critter, bark with me
All filthy documents, cats piss on their kittie litter moccasins
Welcome to mi casa, Monsters Inc, dropping bangers out the rocket ships
Your own private apocalypse

one of the dopest lines... that and "where's my voice?? when ace about to come in

    s.... s....

Yeah. I might have been one of those goons.

  21. c.... ....

i mean i really enjoy Esoteric but damn, El fucking SLAUGHTERED him here.

  22. l.... d....

Most underrated Aesop album. Can't even believe cats think Earthworms is any caliber above this.

    l.... d....

Music for earthworms should be pressed and released, not many of the fans have heard it :(

    l.... d....

lyrically, Earthworms. Production wise, This album.

    l.... d....

beatwise, this here is the shiznitz

  23. A.... M....

I can look at this without too much bias. I actually knew 7L & Eso along with JMT and such and I enjoyed plenty of their music before I discovered the whole Def Jux and of course loved plenty of that. With that said, Aesop missing from anyone's top 5 should be a crime. Aes and El-P hit them way harder with lines that connect. "Doing that new, outdated shit." Lol. "At least it's not some watered down version of what my favorite crews did." DAMN! Al they ever really said on the other side was, "you guys are emo" doesn't cut it. However there's no reason to hate either side because there was beef. If you don't jam Nas AND Cormega, Big Daddy Kane AND Rakim, 2Pac AND Biggie, De La Soul AND Naughty by Nature, etc. Then what's the point? You're literally missing half the heart. It's personal between them. We're just fans. Lol. Good music is music.

  24. J.... D....

Masterminds of Hail Mary Mallon and Run The Jewels.

  25. 3.... G....

    The Portishead remix is insane!!!

  26. K.... K....

"Fraggle rock your four figure watch

    haha classic Aesop Rock

  27. D.... G....

El killed it as usual, but Aes did his thing

  28. R.... B....

    Still gets pussies wet

  29. P.... A....

might be my favorite diss track ever. god DAMN

  30. s.... a....

El Producto is my spirit animal ♥

  31. L.... P....

I agree with some of the cats on here. This album was a far cry from Labor Days, Float, Music for Earthworms, and Appleseed. It was the production. Too much El-p evil robot sound. The weird part is Aesop knows how to produce, I don't understand why he let this fall short.

    L.... P....

Lo P Aesop produced almost every song on Bazooka Tooth, though.

    L.... P....

Bazooka Tooth grows on me everytime I give it a listen. Sure itd not as good as Labour or float. But it's got some of my favorite was joints. It's got its own personal charm

    L.... P....

    Connor Ollive *color

    L.... P....

Aesop was basically the man behind the boards, yo. Not El-P.

    L.... P....

El-P produced ONE song on the album...

  32. R.... B....

only track on the worst Aesop album ever. I'm suprised ELp released it.

    R.... B....

+Dub T Rhe problem i have is comparing it to labour days and music for earthworms. For me, this album just didn't stack up. The funny thing about this is that I'm actually at a Aesop rock concert as I type this :)

    R.... B....

+Barry H. Far enough. I might have to give it another listen. what's your opinion on Cold Vein?

    R.... B....

Honestly, I think it's less about the content of the album ( the beats and lyrics are well done) but more about the balancing of the audio. Sometimes the beat almost overpowers Aes' voice, making it hard to discern, which results in making the song sound jumbled and can Aes sound less inarticulate and a little weak. So if anything, it's a problem with audio mixing, which is something that people notice but can't point out why the song bothers them.

    R.... B....

Ronin Blax Mushroom Cloud Youre a fucking dumbass

    R.... B....

Bazooka Tooth is one of the greatest albums ever made.

  33. R.... B....

only track on the worst Aesop album ever. I'm suprised ELp released it.

    R.... B....

Don't give so much fucks. That's a real dope production.

  34. d.... ....

    Esoteric/7L diss! lol

  35. B.... T....

A E S GENISIS OF THE CLETO REACTOR!!!!

  36. P.... d....

I miss Def Jux so much!!! Wish EL would get Aseop & maybe Lif on RTJ 3

    P.... d....

Roger mucroy really? tell us more

    P.... d....

    http://emptylighthouse.com/interview-aesop-rock-48637260_

    P.... d....

enough time has passed, i wish they would squash that beef and do a collab. even just for one song. the two complemented eachother well

    P.... d....

"El and I are fine." - empty lighthouse interview

    P.... d....

I think Lif wanted to get away from el-p's production for some reason. And I feel like El and rjd2 aren't cool but that's just speculation.

  37. G.... ....

El-P's point on how dumbfucks who say "hip hop is dead" are wrong is still relevant in 2016. Shit, he PROVES them wrong, especially nowadays.

    G.... ....

GuyOnCouch Tbh, at this point hip hop is probably the biggest music genre.

    G.... ....

no shit Dub T, that is his point. durp. it came out in 2003, and is STILL RELEVANT in 2016. get it?

    G.... ....

    MegaKronnik still relevant in 2018

    G.... ....

Is underground still being produced though?

  38. P.... ....

El-p is that dude that will sit you down, calm you a bit, then begin ripping your face apart with his perfectly-constructed arguments of how shitty you are - while he maintains a cool, friendly face at the same time.

    P.... ....

Premoguys and make you glad he did it to you

    P.... ....

    Premoguys This is too accurate.

    P.... ....

    So he a dick.

  39. w.... ....

that beginning reminds me of Filthyfrank

  40. R.... R....

    "I said I'm ready."

  41. R.... P....

It's funny how the most nostalgic cats are the ones who were never part of it.

  42. C.... H....

EL-P has always been dope, but I never expect a verse like that so every time I hear this I'm like holy shit balls what the fuck was that.

    C.... H....

+Chad Howe you gotta go all out on a track with Aesop

    C.... H....

+Chad Howe Favorite track in this album....mainly because they went all out.

    C.... H....

    And it's still hittin'.

    C.... H....

Chad Howe nah man hes boring as fuck, i get tired by the punchline.
Aesop is the white e40 lol.
Slug, sage,esoteric,q-unique ,ill bill and appathy overkill el-p. And thats just to name a few.

    C.... H....

+Richard 0'shay making a comparison between aesop and e40 is where you lost me. how in the fuck? if e40 had half of the wit, vocabulary, or even just basic wisdom that aesop did he would have come up with a better name for his shitty alcohol than slurricane lol

  43. c.... ....

before u knew the underground or independent exist...

    c.... ....

I've been listening to Atmosphere since 97.

    c.... ....

@JTNugget I'm sorry bro, that's almost two decades you'll never get back :(

    c.... ....

    @Jess G. What a stupid comment.

    c.... ....

    +Jess G. lol. I've got to agree

  44. h.... ....

The first 14 seconds are so on point it's insane.

  45. R.... N....

No word(s) exist to explain how dope this is.

  46. c.... ....

I have no words to express how dope this is.

  47. T.... B....

I can't fucking believe this only has 8000 views.

  48. J.... P....

awesome track all i gotta say

  49. S.... T....

    Elp is jus another level

  50. L.... ....

They are both hip-hop bro. There's 1000 lanes in the genre. you are allowed to like both... I do.

  51. C.... W....

How can candy rap commercial group say that asap is Hip-Hop. NO AESOP EL-P ARE HIP-HOP. Don't ever get it twisted they are not two sides of the same coin. Candy ass rappers need to go back to their Easy Bake Oven. THIS GROWN MAN MUSIC.

  52. A.... W....

    So so so so wonderful

  53. C.... O....

    this is pretty damn incredible

  54. M.... ....

I feel like EL-P kinda stole this track lol.

Love me some Aesop, but Producto really bent this song over the table and made sweet, but rough, satisfying love to it.

    M.... ....

U don't think rapping for an extra minute makes it easy?

  55. C.... M....

    Butter.

  56. E.... ....

This is one of my favorite EL-P verses. He breaks the shit way the fuck down. Classic banger.

  57. R.... B....

Fuck yeah weakass rapper cant even touch these masters

  58. T.... ....

Fuck ASAP rocky. Nut rider. This that real shit.

  59. J.... G....

Yeah man, it's one of my favourite tracks by either one of these guys.

  60. E.... W....

Fucking brilliant. Two indie titans at the top of their game.
