Aesop Rock - Water Lyrics

The water ain't safe, the land's made of mortar
I hug a half empty glass my dignity's trying to corner
I'm trying to see the future in a tea cup and a saucer
But I rather be drinking coffee with my cigarette foster
Can a run-away buckle the cloud-nine fantasy filter
To force the brutal truth of daily marketplace wars through the roof?
I mean, I stood beneath the icicles that bleed under the awning
And magically mastered the great absorbing of spirit falling
But I'm sick I've plowed these fields a thousand times over
Sold botanical research studies to farmers with whole quarters
And when science proposes to art besides that peaceful sea
I'll be that cat with a ring on a pillow shouting finally
Take a number, the apple seeds raineth upon your slumber
A hundred thousand freaks on parade for the village hunter
My every whim acted upon has gone loopy
But I play a game called let's prepare barnacle city for the end-all noosings
I split the radius of go-getter bellies, reconnaissance
Sleeping fossil genie bottle optimist freeze
Run for the fountain but the fountain is a desert optical tease
Tummy full of sand running man impossible stop
There's a wing in my gut and I'm all dust
Surfing the urban Ididaride, certainly flushed
Now one in the hands work to and top the toilet seater
But what lies inside my heart is off the motherfucking meter

[Chorus]
See the Water ain't safe no more
"I'm just trying to build my self to act as a truly better man damn"
See the water ain't safe no more
"Nah nah the water ain't safe no more"
I'm just trying to be a solid oak tree for every child to carve its name across
"The water ain't safe no more"
I'm just trying to be the dream of ever peasant the hurricane can offer
"I'm just trying to be some body I can talk to in the morning with a smile"
The Water ain't safe no more..

And I've always been a 40 night chronologic hostage
Rusted hook in the lip of the monarch
Wingless Anime
I don't play in the man race cycle
Hope floater
Gloating inside carnal indifference till doom cops a slot
And potent quotas
I'm 20 something pumping acrylic tomorrow sideways
Blazing passage with a map tattooed on the back of the classless
Now tip-toe across a lost cause
Because a lost cause found
Don't mean you found a cause
That means you found a lost cause
Ok now I've been here for role playing
Slaying my here and now
To benefit consumption for my peers steering the plow
And it's incredible
Handy jackets turn numerals to sentinels
But bad apples ain't sweet
And cretins acts ain't that memorable
I'm Mozart with a focus on the tide
Hiding the inconsistencies of man behind water and wine
I wear a tiger striped ego and bilbo act my progression
Where the kindlings formulated through the flesh of the oppressors
Now, God had a flask I can prove it
You really think the 13 loops that used honor
Spawned me a sober unit? check potion
Addressed the ghost inside my TV with a ruler
Adhered to the back bone, stone pusher
Here ten thousand hackers deep in the movement
That's 20,000 crucial ruby heels clicking in unison
It's beautiful, truly beautiful
I keep a stick inside my hand
And carve my name inside every wall of the falling hologram

The Water ain't safe no more...

    WATER - AESOP ROCK
    [Intro]
It would've been the most beautiful second-coming of Christ
    That anyone had ever seen

    [Verse 1]
The water ain't safe, the land's made of water
I hug a half-empty glass my dignity's tryin' to pawn her
I'm tryin' to see the future in a tea cup and a saucer
But I rather be drinkin' coffee with my cigarette foster
Can a run-away buckle the cloud-nine fantasy filter to force the brutal truth of daily marketplace wars through the roof?
I mean, I stood beneath the icicles that bleed under the awning
And magically mastered the great absorbing of spirit falling
But I'm sick, I've plowed these fields a thousand times over
Sold botanical research studies to farmers with whole quarters
And when science proposes to art besides that peaceful sea
I'll be that cat with a ring on a pillow, shouting: "Finally!"
Take a number, the apple seeds raineth upon your slumber
A hundred thousand freaks on parade for the village hunter
My every whim acted upon has gone loopy
But I play a game called
"Let's prepare barnacle city for the end-all noosings."
I split the radius of go-getter bellies, reconnaissance
Sleeping fossil genie bottle optimist freeze
Run for the fountain but the fountain is a desert optical tease
Tummy full of sand, running man, impossible, stop
There's a wing in my gut and I'm all dust
Surfin' the urban Iditarod, certainly flushed
Now one in the hand is worth two atop the tallest cedar
But what lies inside my heart is off the motherfuckin' meter

    [Hook]
The water ain't safe no more
I'm just tryin' to build myself to act as a truly better man, damn
See, the water ain't safe no more
I'm just tryin' to be a solid oak tree
For every child to carve its name across
The water ain't safe no more
I'm just tryin' to be the dream
Of every peasant the hurricane can offer
See, the water ain't safe no more
I'm just tryin' to be somebody
I can talk to in the morning with a smile
The water ain't safe no more

    [Verse 2]
And I've always been a 40-night chronologic hostage
Rusted hook in the lip of the monarch
    Wingless anime idol
I don't play in the man race cycle, hope floater

This song is about the slightly off center syringe marks that are on the bottom of everything you eat and drink out of clear plastic. They were not there prior to 2010. Google search "unleashed magazine the ripple effect from the lips of Tanzania" and please stop poisoning yourself and children. Only drink distilled water . I add a tsp of organic (aluminum free) baking soda to increase the ph. This will also help you prevent cancer by keeping an alkaline pH to your body.

“It would’ve been the most beautiful 2nd coming of Christ”
It’s about Fukushima nuclear reactor meltdown. Which occurred on 3-11-11. Which is still currently on media blackout because the mass global devastation it’s causing that will be felt for many generation to come.. if we even have that many generations left.
That, or maybe it’s about the flint water crisis, or maybe it’s about bong water as that other guy said.. in any regard it’s prophetic.

    T.... ....

Trikki_det this song was written long before the Fukishima disaster

    T.... ....

I know, I was kidding. He just said the water ain’t safe no more. I rarely drink tap water at my house anymore, I’m very close to flint.

  26. C.... B....

Aesop rock is relative on so many levels, understanding his lyrics elevates one to another level of philosophy.

  27. D.... M....

"I Mozart with a focus on the tide, hiding the inconsistencies of man behind water and wine" so beautiful.

  28. J.... E....

I probably just don't get it or it's just not for me, but this sounds overly pretentious if I'm going to be honest. I understand what he's saying but personally I don't think it makes for a good repeated listening experience. But hey, if you like it that's fine, it's just not my cup of tea.

  39. j.... z....

Listened to this song for years, I'm still trying to understand what he's saying.

    j.... z....

juan zermeno I believe this was durning his mentally unstable times. But I believe he wants you to think about the world and your perspective in it. Lol deep as shit

    j.... z....

Your water supply is poisoned. Water bottles are well below the safe drinking pH levels according to the EPA. You will have kidney failure if you continue to drink it.

    j.... z....

You can interpret Aesop's use of the imagery of various types of bodies of water, and water in general, as a metaphor for contemporary morality and it holds up pretty well across his discography. Especially once reading nietzsche, a lot of his water related lyrics make sense. Lyrics like "when bible page vs. Tidal wave begun, water won" as the 20th century's shift from Christianity to secularism, "I don't pick teams or administer bans, I'm in the creek with a pick and a pan" as aes staying away from the moral superiorists (or nietzche's tarantulas) and trying to find what's valuable (the gold) in today's moral perspectives

This mother fuckers voice is annoying

    J.... C....

+Julio Chavez What did I spell incorrectly? You fucking tard

    J.... C....

    @MikeAtron 1996
Not only you're spelling but your assumption. Yes, it is a fact that my opinion of this artist is that his voice is annoying. That's it, not once did I mention that it was shit music, that is merely your poor assumption. Once again you misspell, must be that your fingers have Tourette's Syndrome.

    J.... C....

+Julio Chavez 7th of March, said by you; "This music is straight garbage" or did you forget you wrote that? Once again I spelled nothing incorrectly and it's Your* NOT you're. Congratulations, you're the frontrunner for the "Biggest Dipshit of the Month" award

    J.... C....

+Julio Chavez I assumed nothing. It's very clearly right fucking there in writing.

    J.... C....

    Touché

  53. P.... D....

I think that Aes is unique with his metaphors. some are kind of.. well... to complement the flow, but some are very deep and they really get your attention. Even if ALL of his lyrics were bullshit, you can't really deny that it is poetic to some degree. it's music

  54. B.... T....

I've always been a 40 night chronologic hostage! Damnnnnnnn

  55. b.... ....

why does beautiful shit like this attract fucking morons like you people

this is so dumb. epicly perfectly dumb. It has noth8ing to do with all that is happening between two continents the heavens above them and the money below. the things invisible and pertanant. it in no way speaks the beat of the beauty of bilithed hope. its so very fucking dumb. dog slayer and Im dressed for the occasion.

  57. C.... D....

Thought this was a sample of one of the GITS OST's

  58. N.... N....

i love how this song is actually about just trying to be a good person in a world full of polluted fucked up people.  and this is the response it gets. you make me chuckle children.  people arguing for aes are no better. you think he gives a fuck what these people say?  baah!  he makes music for us earthworms. fuck the rest. <3

  59. P.... K....

If he had some fire beats instead of these loud annoying ones, he'd be way better. His lyrics are great, just his production could use some work

    P.... K....

    @Jesse Smith
I do get it. He's a great lyricist. If he wants to be more popular, he needs better beats. Nobody's saying he needs to get fire beats and dumb down his lyrics to one or 2 repetitive words.

    P.... K....

+Pawel L I doubt "he'd be way better" with trap beats. I don't think he wants to be super popular either. Underground is underground for a reason brother. Besides beats like this aren't annoying, they require research and hard work. Just different strokes for different fokes.

It takes a certain level of intelligence to be able to understand/get anything out of Aesop's lyrics.  Not everybody is on that level.  /shrug

  63. S.... ....

    you guys:

it's about smoking weed and it being his medication. "I've always been up 40 nights, I've always been a chronologic victim." and the "water" not being safe anymore refers to bong water being used. and the ruby heels line refers to the safety felt returning the hugging embrace of using it....

"because he's an acquired taste within a very obscure and not very marketable genre of hiphop. honestly doesn't make anyone better for listening to something less popular, just means you alienate yourself at partys when people are playing other hiphop and you're like "this shit no one will like is so dope"."

I agree with this. I like lyrically strong rappers, and Aesop knows about technical skills. His style is just plain wack to me. His fans ruin his image even more by being pretentious and insulting people who simply have a different taste. If you like this, cool, just don't judge people simply for the fact they don't like this. Dope beat, wish it was given to another rapper.

    C.... ....

@Xavier Jones You must read more carefully. Also you quoted what someone else said. I never started about parties or that Hip Hop has to be party music. It was not about that. After you read the complete conversation more carefully and actually understand what I was saying, get back at me.

Let me help you out a little. I said this: "If you like this, cool, just don't judge people simply for the fact they don't like this."

I don't dislike people for liking this artist. I said this in the same message: "His fans ruin his image even more by being pretentious and insulting people who simply have a different taste."

Translation, I dislike the people for judging and believing you must like this or you don't understand Hip Hop. Which shows they don't understand the culture at all.

You display your ignorance further by resorting to name calling. Making yourself an example of an ignorant, insulting fan.

    C.... ....

    @ChickensCrossRoads
well then my comment is about whoever you quoted, which you didn't attribute and I didn't notice the opening quote

    C.... ....

come on guys music is the antidote stop the grudge spats ....FEEL THAT MUSIC!  any music that inspires emotions or dance or is relatable for us is good ...variety is a positive!

    C.... ....

ChickensCrossRoads it's funny cause from 2:41 to 2:59 he's calling out his own fan base on its bullshit

    C.... ....

lol the Aesop fanbase below youtube comments is rather cancerous actually (and here I am, an Aesop fan, commenting below one of his songs on youtube replying to a three year old comment. What a sucker.) But I do wish he had a better reach amongst a wider audience. I have heard many true hip hop fans say that his flow is really off-putting, so that's probably part of the reason. I think lyrically he is surprisingly on par with the greatest poets and writers of the twentieth century, if I am to write my honest feeling. (But very possible that I am biased, like everyone else)

  68. m.... h....

I really like your mix you could add fumes, I'll be okay, skip town, ummm I know there is a bunch more but thats the first three I think with your list you would like cause this list is around mine sorta.  and cook it up that one is awesome too

    word up
Aesop chose his moniker in part because of the Aesop fables/moral to each story!
Lyrical genius in my humble opinion.

    T.... C....

Shandi Anderson wrong lol it was a name of a character he played as a child. just a coincidence it's the same as Aesop's fables

Niko Racicot you know I've heard that, and I get that that's the story he peddles officially, but to be real I kinda doubt it. He's obviously well aware of the meaning of the name Aesop rock, insofar is it's interpreted as referring to the original writers fables, and I feel like that's exactly the metaphor that would be up aes's alley. Don't know why he wouldn't be honest about it though, I mean I could be wrong. Maybe he just didn't wanna seem like he was taking credit from the historical Aesop's significance or some shit

    T.... C....

Nah, listen to No Regrets, I say. That's his most penetrable song. Good starting place, and good place to disprove the notion.

Had an amazing conversation on omegle with a guy who suggested this song, It was a very pleasant and uplifting conversation until we started talking about feminism and he left on a negative note, experienced a really good example of what happens when you challenge someones belief in something when you don't yourself believe it to be entirely true. I was sad he left so abruptly because he got the totally wrong idea. I really hope he sees this because I would love to chat with him again.

people. what are you trying to be? are you sentient, reasoning beings, or mindless, fearful, aggressive animals? To me, being a man is being informed, being aware of yourself and others, being decent, having empathy, and being the good you wish to see in the world. that doesn't mean clinging to scauses, wearing pink ribbons, not even necessarily volunteering at shelters. just know what goes on in the world, and be ready for change, should it become possible, and know that your fellow man is just as worthy as you are for a better quality of life, even if he doesn't act like it all the time.

    n.... ....
