Adams, Ryan - Wildest Dreams Lyrics

She said, "Let's get out of this town
Drive out of this city, away from the crowds"
I thought, heaven can't help me now
Nothing lasts forever
But this is gonna take me down

She's so tall and handsome as hell
She's so bad, but she does it so well
I can see the end as it begins
My one condition is

[Chorus:]
Say you'll remember me
Standing in your nice dress, staring at the sunset
Red lips and rosy cheeks, say you'll see me again
Even if it's just in your wildest dreams
Your wildest dreams

I said, "No one has to know what we do"
Her hands are in my hair, her clothes are in my room
Her voice is a familiar sound, nothing lasts forever
But this is getting good now

She's so tall and handsome as hell
She's so bad, but she does it so well
And when we've had our very last kiss
My last request is

[Chorus:]
Say you'll remember me
Standing in your nice dress, staring at the sunset, baby
Red lips and rosy cheeks, say you'll see me again
Even if it's just in your wildest dreams
Your wildest dreams

You see me in hindsight
Tangled up with you all night
Burning it down
Someday when you leave me
Bet all these memories will follow you around
Will follow you around, 'round

[Chorus:]
Say you'll remember me
Standing in your nice dress, staring at the sunset, babe
Red lips and rosy cheeks, say you'll see me again
Even if it's just in your wildest dreams
Your wildest dreams
Say you'll remember me
Say you'll remember me

Adams, Ryan Wildest Dreams Comments
  1. J.... L....

Feels like a slower Smiths tune. Love it.

  2. J.... K....

    Ryan does Taylor does Lana:
    result surprisingly good.

  3. F.... N....

One of the best covers I've heard! He totally made it his own. I rarely listen to Taylor's original song, this one is superior! <3

  4. d.... h....

    Modern Jim crochet.

  5. k.... w....

Heard Ryan's version first it is way better!!! Must say he gave me a new respect for Taylor!!!

  6. M.... E....

Both versions are so different yet so beautiful.

  7. a.... m....

Amazing. It must be a really proud moment for Taylor. What a voice of Ryan Adams and how he transformed the song. Kudos to him. Giving me classic vibes. 80s vibes.

  8. S.... D....

    89. Far before that little twit Taylor

  9. T.... P....

All of the songs on his cover of this album remind me of the spring/summer of '09, the year I graduated high school; wish we could blare this as our group flew to our camping grounds

  10. d.... h....

    Modern day Jim croche

  11. G.... G....

    Where’s wonderland huhu

  12. S.... C....

Got a strong 80's vibes although it's not from the 80's.

  13. S.... C....

Come to think of it, this does sounds like it came out in 1989. It could be by R.E.M., The Cure, Morrissey, Peter Murphy, the (pre-fame) Gin Blossoms, 10k Maniacs, Indigo Girls... in other words, some of my favorites.

  14. M.... ....

As a studio engineer, I ask, how much reverb is ok? Evidently A LOT. Magical.

  15. S.... S....

    Im falling in love again...

  16. S.... S....

Little nits. Taylor swift is just a cover chick. This is the real shit

  17. s.... ....

These easy lyrics come with a price .
    Her soul !!!

  18. D.... S....

Remember me staring at the Sunset. Nothing lasts forever.

  19. G.... 3....

Too bad Ryan Adams is such a douche

  20. L.... ....

Not just a cover album, a total reimagining.

  21. R.... W....

    Better than Taylor swift

  22. D.... C....

Smells like Michael Bolton's style. Nice.

  23. M.... M....

    Genius of emotions...Living legend...

  24. N.... L....

Don’t worry dude, I’ll remember you and the amazing memories of you playing in the radio when my family and I use to travel to New York City and around town @ryanadams

  25. R.... B....

This is a flaunt in the face of useless paparazzi, not an iota of lewd suggestion and the NDS media know it

  26. i.... h....

love the sound but changing the pronouns is 100% a coward's move

  27. R.... D....

I guess Mandy didn't want any "more" but I do!great song!... too soon?

  28. w.... ....

For those who keep commenting on the pronouns and calling them "no homo", first of all, homo or no-homo has absolutely nothing to do with it. He says, "She" through the entire song. He is clearly singing to a woman.

Second, he is hetero. It would be like cultural appropriation to sing it any other way.

Third, he's not the one standing in a white dress. Get Taylor out of your head for a second and listen to the words. He says "your white dress" when Taylor says "my white dress". The sentence is entirely straightforward when Taylor sings it. Adams's version is a bit more nuanced. He is saying, "Say you'll remember me [while you are] standing in your white dress...". This is an acceptable phrasing. If you had never heard Taylor's version, you might not even be confused.

Fourth, "handsome woman" as a phrase goes back all the way to at least 1792. Even Urban Dictionary has a well constructed definition of the phrase: "A woman with the kind of refined beauty and attractiveness that requires poise, dignity, and strength of mind and character, things that often come with age, not merely sex-appeal. Usually applied to a woman who is also very well-groomed and from an upper class background." (https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Handsome%20Woman) This phrase adds to the tone change noted so well by others below.

  29. L.... J....

Holy Crap!!!! Great lyrics and Ryan Adams makes this song haunting!!!

  30. R.... ....

    😊👌

  31. F.... A....

    love his song, Desire!

  32. N.... ....

    😍😍😍😍😍

  33. N.... P....

In my Wildest Dreams, Ryan has covered New Romantics too

  34. M.... J....

Lol, if he was singing it without adding his own words , it would’ve make more sense .
But if he’s adding or removing words , he gotta change 90% of the lyrics and make it his own
lol, but I prefer when people sing the songs the way they were written
    It’s just a cover

  35. m.... a....

    Say you'll remember me...

  36. T.... H....

But.... Taylor only is the best
    Like if u agree

  37. P.... O....

    Wish there was an instrumental

  38. E.... P....

Try Listening To This Song While Driving Through California State Route 1 Highway.

  39. t.... X....

the guitar on this is fucking transfixing. i wanna jump head first into a pool of this song

  40. t.... ....

So, maybe a mandela effect example, I remember this song when I was a kid in the late 90s. I swear to god I remember it from that time period. But apparently Taylor Swift was the original artist for this song in 2011??? Maybe it's just similar to a song from that time period, I guess, but when I found out it was from 2011 I had an aneurysm.

Again, I love the 80's Indie sound that this has, it kind of has an Arcade Fire aesthetic to it to me.

  43. G.... 8....

Ryan Adams took a decent song and made it extraordinary. Thank you, sir.

  44. m.... L....

    Beautifully haunting. Thinking of her?

  45. T.... M....

Ugh the no homo ruined it good job guy

  46. Y.... ....

Just found out him this week. I'm a new fan.

  47. Y.... K....

Maybe he's singing about Mandy Moore?

  48. J.... R....

This guy is so good at reimagining songs. This is probably his second best cover ever behind Wonderwall.

  49. f.... s....

    Justo...great

  50. D.... G....

Taylor swift is a thief... Have some ghost writer make some oringal bullshit for your commercial quarter of a billion dollar persona...

  53. g.... ....

This is the most amazing thing! I don't like Taylor Swift's music much but this! this is so beautiful! I have to reevaluate my opinion about Swift!

  54. e.... a....

  55. M.... M....

  58. M.... P....

    My new favorite song.

  59. T.... S....

Why the hell this man always covers Tay's songs?

    T.... S....

because someone needed to do a proper job of them

  60. c.... ....

Awesome cover. Some possible cross dressing going on in the chorus?

  61. J.... M....

The guitar work in this song is stunning. Just solidly melodic. Beautifully done.

  63. B.... L....

my girlfriend and I broke up two weeks ago and I can't stop listening to this song. It soothes the pain somehow. Thanks Taylor and Ryan. :-)

Cool cover. Very mellow and chill.😌

  69. C.... W....

    Reminds me of Moody Blues

  70. n.... ....

*she's* so tall and *handsome* as hell

  71. J.... I....

  72. B.... B....

dont like any taylor swift songs but damn ryan made me like this one

  73. T.... ....

for some wierd reason, this song reminds me of port aransas. perfect!

  74. i.... ....

He sounds like the literal reincarnation of Roy Orbison here.

I love Taylor's version but dare I say it....this is better?

I fear all the flame shields in all the world won't protect me

    i.... ....

intsoccersuperstar1 I don’t know about better...it depends on the mood. They both offer different pictures and serve different moods

  75. h.... ....

The music sounds a lot like Red idk.

  76. B.... H....

  83. A.... M....

Just now realizing this entire album is a cover... after like 50 listens to this song.

  84. C.... M....

Yesterday I tried to kill myself and I hurted my best friend so much... I want to die, and I want this as the last song I'll hear.

  85. R.... K....

I love this whole project. Truly, madly, deeply. Adams strips the brave face off of the broken soul that was hiding in these lyrics all along and it is a credit to Adams, Swift and Swifts co-writes as well as all the musicians involved.

But to all of the commenter who say there’s is 'nothing wrong' with the thoughtless, obligatory adjustment of pronouns just to make sure no one could accidentally think guy people exist from hearing this: Listen to this track. Listen. Listen good. This song is about a woman seeing a man seeing her as a woman. It's her internal perspective of his eyes seeing her image from the outside. Every word. Every line.

Sure women can be tall and handsome, but that's hardly the point. Leaving the pronouns alone in this case would not have made the song 'gay', it would have meant that, for once, a man was actually singing about love and loss and being unseen and unremembered from a woman's point of view, a point of view that many men might indeed find 'unapproachable' at first. The point of view of someone who can't merely look out of her own eyes and take the world as she sees it but must constantly adjust everything about herself to correct for how she is likely to be viewed through a man's eyes. In other words, a woman.

What a shame that didn't happen just because 'gay' songs aren't 'approachable', just as most things aren't when you never try to approach them.

    R.... K....

Rebekah Kennedy Couldn't disagree more - music is personal, alter pronouns however you must to make the song mean the most to you.

  86. s.... ....

    love this!

  87. J.... M....

It has a Lana del Rey feel because Taylor Swift was clearly influenced by Lana's songwriting. Taylor has her own style and can write the shit out of a song, but there is only one queen.

  88. I.... B....

    This is fucking good. Damn

  89. d.... ....

    What a voice!

  90. K.... A....

    this is original sing..

  91. T.... C....

also this sounds like a song that could actual be from the 80s.

  92. T.... C....

    "standing in your nice dress"
me: *imagines him wearing a girls nice dress* lol oh wait i get it.

  93. G.... M....

Why he has the same songs as Taylor Swift??! What a hell! Could someone explain this

    G.... M....

He covered them (meaning he sang her songs in his own style), he's allowed to do that.

    G.... M....

He did a full album cover

  94. L.... N....

Ryan is our Rembrandt and Patty is our moon.

  95. B.... D....

I love Taylor but this version is heaven, very relaxing

  96. r.... ....

love his covers! this one special!

  97. C.... ....

    Really great Work...Romantic Relaxing

  98. D.... C....

This is the BIG sound I listen for, Ryan Adams is kick F***in ass.

    D.... C....

    DOESNT HE ALWAYS......LOVE HIM

  99. T.... A....

i heard this on the radio today and i feel in love with it!
