Ha, ha...Ryan didn't write a Heartbreaker type Album to his break up with Mandy, he just took Taylor Swift's album and rearranged it to mend his broken heart. Nobody arranges music like this guy, that's what makes him so damned good.

God, besides the original and the Grammy Museum performance version of this song, this version is my favorite. I'm currently in love with it.

All these comparisons, hear I hear Jeff Buckley!. Ryan Adam has the most wonderful voice and is a great musician and composer.......however are we up taking the pain all the time, still I love him.

The second half crescendo is really done well. It is a good song but in not too big on Swift. Don't mean to insult. But the crescendo is nothing short of beautiful and the short diminuendo or the sigh at the songs conclusion tell me these people know their music. That's Tchaikovsky. There are professionals left in this world!

He made the song into what it ought to have been and put the music back into it. Taylor should sing it this way too. The original misses half the tune.

There are many great songwriters, a fair amount arguably better than Taylor Swift. However, I have yet to find a better story tell than her. The way her songs flow through the subject matter is done like no other. It's like a movie in song form. You can picture everything so clearly.

It's so interesting how these different takes on the song completely change the feeling they bring. Taylor wanted her song to bring a hectic and chaotic feel, while Ryan gives this sings this song filled with desperation. It's different but both are great.

This record has ruined me. I no longer like anything else Ryan Adams has put out. Sad but true. This record is all I need. It's just so far and away better than anything else he's put out, vocally and production-wise. The lyrics (thank you TS - and I cannot listen to her record) work so well with RA's arrangements and performance. Every song on the record....every song.

I absolutely love the original but this evokes so much more sadness. Taylor's version is chaotic which she stated is purposely. Crazy beautiful slowed down.

kinda awkward I do not believe that stripping anything down (musically speaking) makes a persons work of art more poetic. It simply is poetic as it is but, I do believe what you mean to say is that you prefer this style and version of Taylor Swift's song better. Take The Killers Hot Fuss album and the Abby Road production of "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" by Brandon Flowers, it is and sounds much different from its original recording and to say it simply some like yourself prefer that version better than the original version. It's preference that makes you feel the song and a song is more poetic and beautiful when really from the beginning it already was a Mona Lisa to begin with minus your input. 🤔🙄

I think the lyrics from 1989 are more poetic than of her previous albums. So good call on reworking this album over any of the other ones.

The "are we are?" it's almost magical in this version. You can feel the pain in there.

this version is shite compared to Taylors in fairness and im a huge RA fan. Its the only song on the album he couldn't get right. he couldn't capture Swifts sense of urgency in the chorus and especially in the bridge. He's melancholic throughout. but she wrote it to be melancholic and nostalgic in the verses and then frantic in the chorus and bridge. he missed this. There's no point in putting a different spin on a cover for sake of it being the point of a cover if it means compromising the whole meaning of the song and getting it wrong as a result. drearily singing "are we out of the woods yet" sounds painful and makes sense yes...but it doesn't beat Swift's panic and that "never settled" feeling from one day to the next type of relationship we all know. it just doesn't capture it well enough. it also sounds like he tried too hard with this cover. now go back and listen to Swifts original version and get the idea of the song :)
