Adams, Ryan - I Taught Myself How To Grow Old Lyrics
Poor little rose, beaten by the rain
In the wind in the gale, thunder and the hail
Sometimes I feel like I'm going insane
Without the numbness or the pain so intense to feel
Especially now it added up through the years
And I, I taught myself how to grow
Without any love and there was poison in the rain
I taught myself how to grow
Now I'm crooked on the outside, and the inside's broke
Most of the time I got nothing to say
When I do it's nothing and nobody's there to listen anyway
I know I'm probably better off this way
I just listen to the voices on the TV 'til I'm tired
My eyes grow heavy and I fade away
'Cause I, I taught myself how to grow
Without any love and there was poison in the rain
I taught myself how to grow
'Til I was crooked on the outside
I taught myself how to grow
Without any love and there was poison in the rain
I taught myself how to grow
'Til I was crooked on the outside, inside's caved
Crooked on the outside, inside's caved
Crooked on the outside, inside's caved
I taught myself how to grow old

One Tree Hill.
most of the time I've got nothing to say when I do it's nothing and nobody's there to listen anyway
2017 Thanks one tree hill for this
His voice reminds me so much of Neil Young here.
listened to this song over and over driving home at night from hospice where my dad was dying.
This next band asked me not to read this but...
Goddammit, I'm going to read it anyway, because I wrote it and it's the truth:
I fucking love this band! They are the best band ever! Period.
Ladies and gentlemen, Ryan Adams & the Cardinals!"
"Hey, what's up?
Me and Neal wrote this song five minutes ago; it's called I Taught Myself How To Grow Old"
Yes!!!!! I heard it on one tree hill ( best show ever btw ) couldn't figure out the name of it for days and now that I found it I can't stop listening to it. lol it's amazingly beautiful and unbelievable how much I can relate to it. sad really but I love the song more than words can describe
That harmonica!!! WOW!
When I first heard this on OTH in 2008, I was blown away. Now 7 years later and this song is still amazing!
Right? I just listened to it again today - still so relevant. God, I love Ryan!!
Ryan Adams - wow - from all the great bands from the '90's... to think that he would be the voice that perseveres. What a talent...
Thank god for One Tree Hill introducing me to artist's like these.
I think Bruce Springsteen uses it quite depressing in The River as well, what about you?
This song has so much deep meaning to me, and a few others I know can relate. what a tear jerker..:'(
Wow... I'm speechless. What a beautiful song.
Fantastic song and that harmonica is amazing. Anybody know any other songs or artist that use the harmonica is this sad, depressing way? The only song that comes close that I can think of is the intro to faster pussycat's house of pain.
This sums it up for me. GREAT song.
thank u for this its really what i needed today lol
harmonica dans cette chanson me fait mettre les chocottes et les déchirures moi, de toute façon mon artiste solo préféré
wow..this song....i dont even got the words to describe
Glad to know I'm not alone. Ha! :-)
This hit with such force the first time I listened to it. Told my life ......
I totally agree!
Jesus, Lord. How many amazing songs must this man write before he is recognized as our nations poet launderette? I'm totally fucking serious btw.
best rammstein cover ever
i've lived this song, this whole album is really pretty,
It's scary how true this song is for me...
