ABC - Light Years Lyrics
Sitting watching stars exploding
Building blocks that make
This world go round
On some distant planet cluster
Future gazing, no sight or sound
Now immortal, on my own
Light years from home
Light years from home
Light years from home
Crimson shades of evening glimmer
Across the counts of earth below
Shield your love like buried treasure
And all the secrets that you hold
And as the daylight
Brings the morning
I reach out for you
Anesthetic for the heartache
Now I'll never feel alone
Light years from home
Light years from home
Light years from home
Light years from home
Sitting watching stars exploding
Building blocks that make
This world go round
On some distant planet cluster
Future gazing, no sight or sound
Sitting godlike mother nature
Now immortal, on my own
Light years from home

ABC Light Years Comments
Minha cidade Niterói,MAC💓💓💓
I Absolutely Love everything that ABC☆☆☆ Martin Fry does. Album cover by Andy Earl photographer.
Why is this album not found on Spotify?
@Ricardo Reyes Franco Beauty Stab, Up and Abracadabra are all on Spotify now in 2019.
@ealing456 great news. It has been a while since my last comment and I have reconsidered my ideas regarding Spotify and such and now am more positive towards them
@Ricardo Reyes Franco I think it takes a while for certain labels to secure the rights, so you end up with a few glaring gaps in artists' discographies. Also different territories have different albums because of that... The plus side is Spotify rarely ever take material *off* Spotify (unlike video-streaming services). :)
@ealing456 Yes, that is likely to be the case. And even if some releases take longer to appear, at least they don't suffer the same fate as some irretrievable master tapes
@Ricardo Reyes Franco Really good point. The argument that these music streaming services are providing a vital archival service shouldn't be downplayed. It *is* important!
This is that corner of brilliance that lesser mortals didn't get about Martin Fry. ABC were always at their best when pushing at the boundaries of their sound: Beauty stab, Zillionaire and Skyscraping were bold and beautiful leftfield pop excursions and largely ignored by the masses in favour of their (admittedly fine) more festival friendly pop/soul stuff. This I could play at my funeral - and I can pay Light Years no higher compliment.
Sam Allen Love your comment. I think those days are behind him though. I don't begrudge him a second of LOL2 - he had little commercial success from Skyscraping and Traffic, so why not create an alternate reality whereby ABC followed Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran to give the masses what they really wanted - sequels. Hopefully he's already working on a new album for 2018. No more 8 year waits! Still waiting for an obscure-tracks/fans-only release of unreleased songs. Or incorporate them into his next album.
Dallas (Damn! Why couldn't I have a name like that!?) - You are of course right and unsurprisingly, LOL2 is magnificent despite my faintly snippy 'pop/soul' gripes which weren't aimed at the music but rather ABC's need to play to the gallery rather than edgy souls like myself. Hey! We all got bills to pay so I begrudge Mr. Fry nothing. He soundtracked my youth and actually still does now even in my frayed and worn fifties. Anyway - good to chat to a kindred fan.

perfect mix of Roxy Music and David Bowie ........awesome ABC
Ok, this is my first time hearing this track but I am amazed at the similarity of sound with David Bowie's last work; Blackstar.
And that is a very good thing given how much I loved that and even more amazing that this was released 19 years earlier.
I guess it goes to show that true genius endures.
Now off to buy this album and Traffic.
The sax gives both song a peculiar haunting tone...
It is now 43 years since Roxy peaked with the sublime Stranded and then [IMHO] spiralled. This seems like a worthy successor, channeling both Ferry and Mackay toward a parallel 21st century. Like it? I can not stop playing it. Thanks for uploading it (iTunes doesn't have it).
Stranger things is best song on skyscraping
Liam and Sarah Mcbride Meh. Subjective.
So true
Not to detract from this song, which is exquisite, to be sure, but listening to it, I sense that this is exactly what Roxy Music would sound like had they pushed on after Avalon towards the 21st Century. Believe me, that is a compliment of the highest order. Martin Fry is amazing. I'm sure Bowie and Ferry would approve.
No, great comment. Interesting thought, too.
Awesome song by ABC, one of their greats. I have a couple of their CDs and this awesome song :Light Years", from their 1997 album "Skyscraping", which I have on CD. A great band, ABC is very underrated. I grew up in the 1980s listening to their songs and I love their songs.
I have always loved ABC from the start, still play there cds now, i LOVE beauty Stab and Martin fry is so underestimated, such a talented man, i still have his autograph from 1984 when i served him in Our price records in Queensway ,London , long may you reign martin x
This is easily my favorite track on Skyscraping.
DocOfAreaology Mine too. By far.
