Aaron West And The Roaring Twenties - Going To Georgia Lyrics

The most remarkable thing about coming home to you
Is the feeling of being in motion again

It's the most extraordinary feeling in the whole world
I've got two big hands
And a heart pumping blood
And a 1967 Colt .45
With a busted safety catch

The world shines
As I cross the Macon county line
Going to Georgia

The most remarkable thing about you standing in the doorway
Is that it's you
And that you're standing in the doorway

You smile as you ease the gun from my hand
And I'm frozen with joy right where I stand
The world throws its light underneath your hair
Forty miles from Atlanta, this is nowhere

Going to Georgia

The world shines
As I cross the Macon county line
Going to Georgia

Aaron West And The Roaring Twenties Going To Georgia Comments
  1. b.... n....

Wow imagine being the kind of person who comments that a cover isn’t as good as the original

  2. l.... ....

So let me get it straight. This is Dan Campbell doing an impression of Aaron West doing a cover of TMG "Going to Georgia", right?

  3. C.... P....

I've never heard the original until today but this one is way better.

    C.... P....

    Debatable

  4. E.... P....

this doesn't shine a light to the original. smh

  5. T.... P....

Better than Casey bolles cover I can tell ya that

  6. O.... C....

Everyone saying it's sweet. He's going to threaten to kill himself, listen to the fucking lyrics lol

    O.... C....

that's why the mountain goats wont play this anymore. They say it glorifies gun violence and volatile relationships.

    O.... C....

We know.. I don't see anybody saying it's a sweet song. The guys drunk driving to his ex's house to threaten to kill himself if she doesn't take her back lol. It's clearly not a sweet song. Aw well. Still a favorite of mine

  7. d.... ....

Even though this is just a cover I like to imagine that this is the part of Aaron that's hopeful of the future and is excited with the thought of being with Diane again. Like this song sounds so raw and almost off-key from the original because Aaron is syrupy happy for once in the past year and is screaming it out, singing along to a relatable song he hears on the radio of his dad's old Mustang. It's beautiful and emotional.

  8. A.... A....

I love TWY but this just does not compare to tMG whatsoever :(

  9. M.... H....

I love how this song is so much more happy than the rest, he states the things he has and where's he's going and it shows that Aaron is happy again

    M.... H....

+Mags H it's more sad than anything, I think. Also it is a cover, if you didn't know.

    M.... H....

+xthesamesonx I did not know that, I'll have to listen to the original, thank you haha

    M.... H....

the original is incredible, it's by john darnielle of the mountain goats and the man has too many incredible songs to list

  10. O.... M....

I've been a Mountain Goats fan for a decade or so, and I never liked the Wonder Years (no hate, just not my thing). With that said, I think this is an exceptional cover, probably the best along with Atom and his Package, which is a very different flavor. This is one of my favorite Mountain Goats covers ever, and while I definitely prefer the original, sometimes I listen to this one instead to hear Soupy belting it out. I'm gonna check out the rest of his Aaron West stuff to see how I like it

    O.... M....

Checking in to see if you're a full on Aaron West fan, if not a Wonder Years fan as well

  11. R.... C....

this is so much better than the original in my opinion, it just gets me every time, when i'm happy, sad, whatever, i love it

  12. z.... ....

this is an awful cover (´-﹏-`;)

    z.... ....

    zolooooooo00
    Idk about that
You have to be in the mood it's a fine cover

  13. b.... s....

Increíble cover, este álbum fue jodidamente hermoso.

  14. E.... E....

i love the mountain goats but i might like this version better

  15. V.... H....

The most remarkable thing is also that I'm from Georgia, this doesn't just hit home, this is home :/

  16. C.... ....

What a great song writer, a very solid album.  Although I think this man is a genius I only getting one or two songs off of the album, most of the songs were missing a little something or had parts in it that just stopped me from pushing it from good to great, such as including a harmonica in the song, lacking a solid chorus, or getting a "country" vibe in general.  Despite these little things, I wish there were more artists that could write music like this guy, he does not suck, he does not suck at all.

    C.... ....

You know he didn't write this song, right? He is a great song writer, but this is a Mountain Goats cover

    C.... ....

I was reflecting on the entire album, but no, I wasn't aware that this was a cover, thanks for the information

    C.... ....

+Christopher Gelling No problem. Hope I didn't come off as condescending, I was being genuine. The Mountain Goats are incredible, John Darnielle is an amazing songwriter. If you liked Aaron West you'll probably dig a lot of them once the weird vocals grow on you. Tallahassee is a good start, concept album about a dysfunctional marriage.

  17. J.... H....

It's a good cover and a great band to cover, but it can't beat the original. Just, no. It's good and this album is good, but covering the mountain goats just doesn't do the same thing the original.

  18. m.... ....

I just listened to the whole album
    4 times on repeat
no I'm not crying, definitely got something in my eye.

    m.... ....

who the hell is cutting these onions!?

    m.... ....

I sure wish they'd stop lol

    m.... ....

is it a little dusty in here or what

    m.... ....

It has happened once again... for the third day in a row. Still tearing up every time.

  19. E.... B....

I like it but I love the original better...it feels authentic.

  20. x.... x....

I get a La Dispute vibe at some points in this cover, and I'm digging it.

  21. C.... G....

This song is fantastic and Soupy's cover does it so much justice. I'm super obsessed with this album.

  22. j.... ....

This blows the original out of the fucking water. No hate, this is just so fucking incredible. Soupy conveys emotion in his music like no one else.

    j.... ....

@jackbaradog Noooooooooooo. No. No, no nonono nono no, nonono. Noooo, noonooooo, nonono no nono no. Nononooo, nono no nononono nono nono no.

    j.... ....

Was The Mountain Goats the original artist?

    j.... ....

    @D.A. Hammer Yes.

    j.... ....

+Mentalitarium he screamed louder, that means it has more emotion. duh.

    j.... ....

    @presmadagascar you're right!!!

  23. M.... M....

Haven't heard the original but he sounds like he is singing off pitch from what it should be, but I still like it for some reason.  Then again, anything this guy releases is good, to me at least.

    M.... M....

Go listen to the original, you'll see that Soupy fuckin' nails this cover.

    M.... M....

@Swagador Dali Yup listened to it haha

    M.... M....

Even the original is off-pitch. It's a very emotional, desperate song, and this cover does it a fair amount of justice

  24. K.... O....

Yikes. (For the record, the original songs are awesome, just, not this.)

  25. B.... G....

The best Mountain Goats cover in existence

  26. S.... C....

Soupy's vocals on this song fit so well in the weirdest way.

  27. T.... D....

Like how he matches the vocals pretty well. Perfect cover for the album haha

  28. J.... T....

God damn, this album was spectacular.

  29. C.... B....

Does this mean Aaron got Diane back?

    C.... B....

@Max Blake dude never thought about it like that. It's like aaron is covering the song hoping that this would happen to him. damn.

    C.... B....

That is exactly what I was wondering as I was listening to it. Just noticed it is a cover right now. I still don't think Dan would just put the cover on the album unless it still has meaning to the story. He planned it all out far to much.

    C.... B....

Note the lyrical and musical references to this song in "Runnin' Scared".  It seems like Aaron had this song and this story in his mind when he "went to Georgia".  I guess he was hoping for a similar outcome.  I guess Soupy just covered it as a little bonus since he had woven the song into the story of the album.  Love it!

    C.... B....

Well this is a cover song, but i think he might have gotten her back.. this might be sort of an epilogue

    C.... B....

I asked soupy last night at his Aaron West show in San Diego. He told me that he covered it one because it's a fucking awesome song, and two because he needed another song to get it on Itunes he said. It doesn't have anything to do with the story though
