Aaron West And The Roaring Twenties - Carolina Coast Lyrics

I woke up to shorebirds
I must be close to the sea
I walked through the parking lot;
Felt the pavement burning my bare feet
I stumbled out eastward;
Pushed my way through the reeds
I woke up to shorebirds
I dreamed about drowning at sea

I'm staring out at nothing
Carolina coast
I'll wade through the shallows
It feels like I'm chasing your ghost
And I think about drowning
I'd lay down and let go
I'll see you in heaven, everyone that left me alone

I reached in my pocket to pull out a light
Forgot I threw out my smokes weeks ago
Oh, I can't get it right, but I found your lilies
They're dead and they're dry
I'll plant them here seaside
I'll pray that they come back to life

You and I. You and I
You and I. You and I

And on the horizon, there's a boat fighting tide
All rust stained and pale blue, it's nearing the end of its life
But somehow it keeps floating, all banged up but alive
And I guess I feel better then. I won't lay down and die

I'm not coming home tonight, no
No, I'm not coming home tonight, no
No, I'm not coming home tonight without Dianne by my side, no

  5. A.... ....

This year I plan on going to North Carolina as a vacation for spring break 2016, and it's on my bucket list to learn this song, and play it at night on the Carolina coast.

    A.... ....

+Andrew please please please do this

    A.... ....

did you ever get to do this?

  6. D.... R....

I know this is a concept album but I can't figure out who's life it is about. Or if it even is. I mean the entire album he is telling a story. He could've just got a feeling to right a story and then lyrics popped out. Next thing you know he's the lead singer of another group singing some cold hard shit. But it's still fucking amazing. So my theory is he's telling a story of either someone he knows or just something that came to him.

    D.... R....

Soupy made this character (Aaron West) up, and the whole album is explaining the worst year of Aaron's life

Favourite bit of the album, hits hard man.

    J.... A....

    mine too man

I just pieced together the connection between this and Running Scared. Where he talks about picking Diane wild lilies. How after everything he's kept them in his pocket. This album was perfect. I truly was not disappointed in anyway and it really hits you in every way :(

    E.... T....

Eric Twing I know this is old as fuck but if you look at genius lyrics for like all of his songs they have really good wxplanations and how a lot of stuff all ties in between songs

  10. t.... l....

    love the trombone

  11. K.... M....

I really love the part about the boat. I'm not sure why but it is my favourite part of the album.

    K.... M....

That part is absolutely genius.  It's my favorite part of the album also.  Many people might not have caught it but it's a metaphor to himself.

    K.... M....

@Matt M I know man. Soupy is an amazing songwriter. He wrote one of the saddest fucking stories I've ever head without even really indenting to to anything with it.

  12. L.... I....

    Add Favort XD

  13. M.... C....

I *much prefer this over TWY

    M.... C....

    Thats good

    M.... C....

    Me too to be honest.

  14. C.... P....

This song reminds me of Matt Pryor's (The Getup Kids) solo music. I just found this album today and have had it on repeat. So sad, but so good.

  15. K.... O....

I guess you could say at the end, Aaron is
    Not Sad Anymore

    K.... O....

Kevin Ocampo he was just tired of that place

  16. b.... ....

As sad as Soupy's lyrics are, he always ends the album hopeful and determined.

    b.... ....

+Ryan Gibbons And just as we were getting used to it, along comes Bittersweet and leaves Aaron standing completely alone in New York, thinking about how everything that he thought meant something to him is actually valueless and impermanent. Fuck.

  17. A.... G....

I know this project isn't linked to TWY, but this whole album just reminds me of 'The Devil In My Bloodstream.'

    A.... G....

Well it's all about depression guess you could say depression grabbed Aaron's throat and choked the life out him slowly

    A.... G....

Secretly this is story of soupys grandfather

    A.... G....

@EverythingAnEnything that sounds like some conspiracy theory shit that'd just might make sense.

  18. K.... ....

Sitting here crying my eyes out...what a fucking masterpiece.

  19. c.... c....

The biggest punch in the gut i've ever received.

  20. L.... S....

    what an amazing album

  21. J.... H....

Hopefully Soupy never pulls a Dallas Green and leaves TWY to pursue this side project. It's really fucking good though

  22. S.... G....

Please tell me aaron wests year gets better after this

    S.... G....

    We can only hope

    S.... G....

Check the newer songs and see for yourself LMAO

  23. m.... r....

    I Love WDHEO

  24. M.... O....

It's funny how when I first listened to 'You ain't no saint', it felt like a really sad song, but now, after listening to the whole album, it feels like the most optimistic piece of the record.

    M.... O....

Aaron West (Dan Campbell) actually stated this is one of his most hopeful songs if not the most on the album and I think it's neat as fuck cause the whole song's so sad but that last verse with the boat and the first chorus together kinda show really how there's still that hope left in ya after all the shit that happens. This whole album's such a lovely piece of fuckin art <3

  25. M.... M....

Harmonica hit me right in the feels

  26. J.... T....

This song is where I finally broke. This is the heaviest shit I've ever heard.

  27. D.... S....

    It's over nooooooo

  28. A.... R....

everything about this album is perfect, soupy is a genius

    A.... R....

@Auden Lewis Honestly, I broke waaaay before this. You should be proud of yourself. "Saint Joe Keeps Us Safe" and "Divorce and the American South" always get me.
