Aaron Neville - Louisiana 1927 Lyrics
What has happened down here
Is the winds have changed
Clouds roll in from the north
And it started to rain
It rained real hard, and
Six feet of water
In the streets of Evangeline
The river rose all day
The river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood
Some people got away alright
The river had busted through
Clear down to Plaquemine
Six feet of water
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away
They're trying to wash us away
Oh Louisiana, Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away
They're trying to wash us away
President Coolidge come down
In a railroad train
With his little fat man
With a note pad in his hand
President says "little fat man
Oh isn't it a shame
What the river has done
To this poor farmer's land"
Oh Louisiana, Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away
You're trying to wash us away
Oh Louisiana, oh Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away
Oh Lord, they're trying to wash us away
They're trying to wash us away
They're trying to wash us away

Georgia on My Mind + Desperato = Louisiana.
Masterpiece!!!
The original lyric says "cracker's" land
(per this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lB0I6uxRglY and many other renditions)
This guy renders it "farmer's" land
WTF? He THAT scared to sing it as at was sung?
I'm practicing this song for my school choir and it's probably one of my favorites we've done
I've never been to the US yet this song is so moving - and beautifully rendered by Aaron Neville.
Love this . Love Louisiana
Love this song.
Love this song I heard it at school
I prayed for everyone in the world!
Is no one going to give credit to Randy Newman? He wrote the song and performs it wonderfully. He spent his early years in Louisiana.
cheryl johnson There are props for Randy here. Plenty of them and well deserved.
Loved his version of Change is Gonna come c xx
How he conveys sadness !! A true artist ___ a great song a great singer
I,'ve been loving him and his music since I was a teenager!! Went to school with his son.
Another great song by Randy Newman. And a great album.
I will forever associate this song with the aftermath of hurricane Katrina here in New Orleans.
so will a ton of us out here in California, my man. There's a dude in Santa Cruz called Curtis who spent probably 5 years driving his red-white-blue truck and trailer back and forth to NOLA to try to help people after Katrina. Now he's going elsewhere 13 years later, he never ages. The rest of us are not so helpful. Love from Califas
Mark Reimer Oh me too!! My Mom was born in Louisiana. We saw the devastation on TV in Mississippi and New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I still think about the people that have died and the ones that have survived. 🌹🌹💜🖤💚
A wonderful rendition of a great song _____ a truly great vocalist ___ the background voices are beautiful
AMAZING Aaron!!
Love this song. I have this CD. Love Him......Pray for Louisiana

I only found this song a year ago, and I'd place it next to 'Georgia'.
How is it possible to sing this song? I can’t make it without choking up.
Beautiful voice and song
I just love Aaron Nevilles voice. Desert island voice.
I remember in the wake of Katrina, Aaron singing this on tv fundraiser with, I think, Randy Newman(songwriter of LA '27) accompanying him. That whole show is a big blur but I remember this, Harry Connick Jr, and I seem to remember Allen Toussaint playing a minor-key version of "Tipitina." Aaron's voice adds such a powerful dimension to this song of loss.
Temazoooo
Better performance than Newman's, but both great, and hey, Newman wrote it fair play!
A great song!
Just heard this version a couple weeks ago. Great song by Randy Newman. Amazing when a gospel twist is applied to an otherwise decent ballad. Arron Neville absolutely nails this.
Great voice too.
Song that reminds me of "When the Levee Breaks" by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie
WOW WOW I havent cried since a child and I swore no one would ever have another tear out of me but aaron you got a lot and it got a lot of anger out of me god bless
I grew up with my mom listening to Aaron Neville's greatest hits. Left an imprint on me. I've gotten into his music again now in my later 20's. So soulful.
Soulful, indeed.
Little Fat Man lol
Tears so Beautiful
Yes, this song does tug at your heart strings. This is a very heartfelt rendition.

Best version
If Aaron Neville sings a song, it's pretty much guaranteed to be the best version ever.
I had this in cassette many years ago. Beautiful!
more relevant today than ever
This rendition tugs at your hearts. Aaron Neville really knows how to deliver a song.
