5th Dimension, The - Wedding Bell Blues Lyrics

Bill, I love you so, I always will
I look at you and see the passion eyes of May (eyes of May)
Oh, but am I ever gonna see my wedding day (wedding day)
I was on your side, Bill, when you were losing
I'd never scheme or lie, Bill, there's been no fooling
But kisses and love won't carry me till you marry me Bill

I love you so, I always will
And in your voice I hear a choir of carousels (carousels)
Oh, but am I ever gonna hear my wedding bells (wedding bells)
I was the one who came running when you were lonely
I haven't lived one day not loving you only
But kisses and love won't carry me till you marry me Bill

I love you so, I always will
And, though devotion rules my heart, I take no bows
Oh, but Bill you're never gonna take those wedding vows (wedding vows)
Oh, come on Bill (come on Bill)
Oh, come on Bill (come on Bill)

Come on and marry me, Bill
I got the wedding bell blues
Please marry me, Bill
I got the wedding bell blues
Wedding bell blues
Wedding bell blues

Yeah, yeah, marry me, Bill
I got the wedding bell blues

  5. A.... M....

This mythical “bill” was one of the all time idiots in world history. Imagine making sweet hot love to that face and body twice a day!

Three covers of Laura Nyro songs were in the USA Top 10 in the last week of November 1969 - Wedding Bell Blues, And When I Die, Eli's Comin'.

  9. J.... A....

Wonderful version of this great Laura Nyro song, the definitive version of it.

  10. M.... B....

I was 5 in 1969 for some reason this song always made me weepy AND I remember it from my glorious childhood. 1968-69 was a great time.

  11. A.... H....

Bill is a very fortunate man

  12. e.... d....

I'm clearly the only person who came here from the Simpson's and... I'M HAPPY

  13. r.... ....

WOMEN ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES WHO DREAM THESE KINDA DREAMS.... since I was a little boy, I always dreamed of marrying a fit girl..... Still looking for the ONE.

  14. L.... H....

    Marry Me Bill!!! 💋💋💋

  15. S.... S....

That was nice. It was fun and the performers were likable. Today, our culture is sick and twisted. I'm sick of irony and I'm too jaded to be shocked - it's boring. Is it too much to ask for nice? And Marilyn McCoo was so talented! And beautiful! I love the Fifth Dimension. My Dad played their albums on the old record player in the 60's.

  16. Q.... U....

Tearing from the beauty of the production, harmony and...of course...marilyn.

  17. e.... ....

Love when she breaks lip sync at 2:28

  18. o.... ....

    this is adorable.

  19. M.... A....

I'd change my name to Bill.

  20. G.... R....

OMG! I am one of their biggest fans and have never seen this video. What a plot twist. When Florence fixed her stockings I thought... Is that an improve? That's weird! Then when they ran off together I about died! LMAO! Luckily Ms. McCoo and Mr. Davis have been married all these years. I grew up on their music and still play it to this day! Timeless music, timeless songs, timeless vocals. Brings back memories of summer camp and riding in the back seat of my Godfather's 1967 Mustang. Thank you for posting this video. I am smiling from ear to ear!

  21. C.... L....

    Oh Lord!
I was the one who came when you were lonely.
    I still am...

  22. G.... B....

So sorry! I just took another look at the video and it was Billy who ran off with Florence! My bad. Still great song and shtick!

  23. G.... B....

I love the shtick in this lip-synch sketch! Especially at the end where Lamont McLemore grabs Florence LaRue and takes off with her, upstaging the whole Marilyn and Billy drams! Genius! I think Lamont and Florence had a something something b4 she got married--and maybe after! This went to #1, making it the highest charting Laura Nyro-written song. Her original is great also, but this arrangement sticks the dismount!

  24. T.... ....

1976, Flint Michigan. I was around 5 ... A singlewide trailer, my mom at the kitchen sink with the sunbeams shining on her; hands shiny with soapy water and the sounds of the dishes clunking around as she washed them. This song playing on the coffee table record player over and over again. My dad, Bill, had come home from Vietnam a year or so prior and things were still good. My mom hadn't discovered his progressively severe heroin addiction and he hadn't beaten her yet. Me playing with our dog Sundance in that tiny living room listening to my mom singing happily along to this gorgeous song and I remember being peaceful inside, just a kid who loved her mom and dad and they loved each other then.
These few lovely stills in my mind's eye before my dad lost his mind thanks to Danang (sp?) and whatever he saw there. This song takes me *right* back to that particular moment. A warm Michigan morning. I loved my mom so much and wasn't scared of my father yet.
This song brings me so close to my mom *every* time I hear it; any 5th Dimension or Marvin Gaye or Beatles music really. But this one, "won't ya marry me Bill ...", makes me feel like she's right here next to me, I can smell her and I hear her singing along, a young mother still in love with her husband Bill....
So grateful for this song and the memories of that time.

  25. f.... ....

She was superior in every way to crack-wack houston. Marilyn has a fantastic voice. There's almost no female singer that can even equal her, and she is a polite, classy, beautoful lady.

  26. D.... G....

I'm into hard rock/heavy metal/punk rock...and yet this is my favorite song from the '60s. Man, Marikyn McCoo is beautiful.

  27. A.... B....

truly one of the greatest voices of all time I have heard .....love her

  28. K.... T....

    ...and they still together! ❤️💍

  29. B.... A....

She could have sung that song to me any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. I have always dreamed of meeting a beautiful Black women like her. Sexy, beautiful and a wonderful talent. Who is rocking my song in 2019?

  30. T.... N....

Does Bill really think he's gonna get better than that? What an ego

  31. M.... K....

a solid stable marriage in the entertainment industry is nearly impossible. Providing protection to various stars, ya hear and see all kinds of mess, not with those two. Good to see.

  37. S.... G....

My late husband was Bill, I adore this song and the Marvelettes ''Don't mess with Bill''!!! Just love it!!

  38. M.... ....

  43. G.... J....

#1 50 years ago this week (11/6/19), holding off the Beatles' "Come Together" at #2, and "Something" at #3.

  44. R.... V....

Anyone remember the Jello commercial they did? I'd like to hear that again.

    R.... V....

Yeah , I remember that , in fact they did a lot of TV spots , I rember they did a half hour film special on the American Forest association which they promoted the Forest ranges in the US and they even sang a few songs , it was pretty wild to see that , I caught on TV back in the 70s on late night but it was definatly done in the late 60's or very early 1970. I would like to get a hold of that show. Regardless , subscribe to my channel , I have many more 5th Dimension videos and over 800 Bubblerock retro music classics that you'll enjoy , Peace , Dan

  45. E.... Z....

As a pre teen just one look at MM and I fell in love

  46. L.... E....

Such a fantastic voice Marilyn McCoo had .
I put her right up there with the other female singers of her time - Barbara Streisand , Karen Carpenter and Roberta Flack
