311 - Simple True Lyrics

Lying down on the pavement, so happy
seeming to be in balance, but how could that be
really I must be jealous, don’t tell me
I just gotta leave the broken pieces or it’ll be the death of me

Six long years and seven heartbreaks
broken strings and countless outtakes, why?
never thought that I would follow through
got a working title somewhere
and I know one day I’ll get there, I’m
grasping here

I’m looking out for a simple kind of true
don’t know what I am waiting for
I’m holding out for a simple kind of true
at least some kind of a metaphor

It’s simple, simple and it’s true
we got much to do
no excuses they’re just useless
we’ve got much to do

I’d say you hung the moon if they ask me
you help me so the plot won’t get past me
sometimes the obvious cannot be seen
at least not by me

[Chorus]

Remember all of the times
when we couldn’t make up our minds
hours and years disappear

This song is so sweet. Reminds me of a mix of something you'd find on Omaha Sessions, mixed with the jazzy funk of Grassroots.
The guitar tones are so nice too. So many different sounds and styles in one song.

    A.... P....

Andy Pandy this song is amazing...guitar tone, riffage, SA, the melody, lyrics are singable, rhythm especially that serious meaty punch of the chorus reminds me of tool sober when it first came out...

This album rocks! Other than "Revelation Of The Year." This band has been cranking out music for almost 24 years. 311 has endured all of the critics and haters and continues to make great music for it's legions of fans. The "Nay sayers" will always attempt to suck life out of something positive, 311 shall just keep rolling on and I shall be there to support this ORIGINAL band! Keep rockin it Fella's!!!

    such a great song!

  19. E.... C....

They've just gone in a direction that I can't get on board with. Evolver was the last album that I really enjoyed. Nothing personal, just the nature of the beast. Bands naturally evolve, and you either embrace it or reject it.

    E.... C....

Agreed. I loved everything up to Evolver (From Chaos took a little getting used to). The 3 albums after Evolver, I wasn't really too happy with. There were songs of each that I enjoyed, but I just didn't really like the albums as a whole. This album is a very different feel than what I've been used to from 311 (the guitar solo at the end of Friday Afternoon?), but I actually like it. It's weird, because it's not really the 311 I know. Still, I enjoy this album.

  20. D.... L....

The first time I listened through this album I said "needs more Pnut"...then I got to this track. Amazing. 311 fan since I was 10. '95-present. Love and unity.
